  1. Just couldn't bring myself to look at my bike for the last two days. My way of grieving for the loss of a great man, true legend. Will go for long ride in Tokai tomorrow afternoon, with black armband... Will try and attack the climbs a bit more, in memory of the legend. Somehow I feel I need to break myself on the mountain tomorrow, to complete the grieving process.
  2. The brightest star on the SA sport scene, snuffed out before achieving all that his talent deserved.... He was already great, and was only getting stronger, and going on to achieve even greater things. Truly, truly breaks my heart... Our thoughts are with his young wife and family...
  3. Rode up there yesterday. Looks like only a short section of jeep track is closed. Access to most routes still OK. Mast and Silvermine definitely both still accessible.
  4. Coming down from Silvermine this morning, really looking forward to these sections of singletrack, only to find them closed. Spoilt my whole ride . Good thing I managed to get some time on them yesterday .
  5. I've got the Ryder version of the ESI, and its definitely a bit inferior to the original. ESI's are much softer and mould to your hand a bit better. Tried the ESI's on a friend's bike. But I guess u pay for the superior product.
  6. I must say I don't mind bi-directional trails, especially cross country types like Faerie Glen. The concern is about the walkers, who have no idea about mtb rules. No matter what rules are applied, they won't be effective as long as people are walking on the single tracks. I agree with Omega Man, rules need to apply at all times, changing the rules during " peak" times is just going to create confusion.
  7. Having grown up walking in CT for most of my life, I know there are miles and miles of trails out there for walkers to use. Surely a few km's of exclusive mtb trails is not too much to ask. And I suspect it will get worse over the Festive Season, with visitors coming in and not knowing the "protocol" at Tokai . Hence the need for signage, as visitors have no clue that some trails are mtb trails.
  8. Difficult to go round them on certain sections. Its called SINGLE track for a reason.
  9. Signage on the trail definitely the answer. Or at least part of the answer. A warning sign at the gate is probably worthwhile as well.
  10. Coming down Fairy Glen on Saturday afternoon, and I run (almost literally) into two separate groups of walkers on the single track. Luckily I wasn't going too fast or somebody could have gotten quite seriously injured. Then they have the audacity to ask me why I don't have a bell on my bike. I don't mind the odd walker on the jeep track, but on the single track it's quite dangerous. Is there any way we can keep walkers off the single track? My understanding is that the singletrack in that section is meant for biking, or is it a shared path?
  11. My first bike was a Silverback. Gave me a good five years, and I still keep it as my back up bike. Really good value for money. I've since moved on to a Scott Scale, which is totally awesome. IMHO, I reckon if you spending more than R10k look at the Scott range, less than that you probably better off with the Silverback range. When I bought the Scott I was seriously considering the Silverback Spectra, but then I got a surprise boost to the the budget .
  12. Picked up my Scott Scale RC from the shop yesterday. Frame bought here on the hub for a song, built up with bits and pieces until I get cash to fit her out properly. Can't wait to get her up to Tokai.
