    Transbaviaans 2022

My training started now in January and has been going well, included 3 session on indoor Trainer a week, using Trainer Road base build plan (low volume) plus a 50 to 60km club ride on a Saturday (on the MTB) and the odd night ride on a Wednesday evening. Was a total of 25 hours in the saddle with just on 400km for the month. Going to go into one of the Trainer Road build plans now, building to Race to the Sun. Plan is to try get to around 500km in the saddle for February, with minimum 1x 100km ride (MTB)
  7. 1st Transbaviaans for me, which I am sure is going to come with a fair amount of time in the saddle the first 6 months of the year.

For those who have ridden, what was your drive train setup. I am currently running 1x11 (10x46) Shimano SLX with a 34 oval on the front. *looking for an excuse or a ā€œvalidā€ reason to upgrade to a 1 x 12 setupā€¦..

Assumed the 5am start this past year was as a result of the curfew? Have the previous years not been a 10am start?

Was wondering the same around the accommodation, assuming a 10am start, would it be worth staying an hour or two out of town and driving in that morning possibly?

The longest ride I have done previously is a CTCT and 94,7 both on road, think its more to test nutrition, and just spend extended length of time in the saddle, will certainly put in a 200Km plus ride closer to the TB. Not entirely sure there is anyway to mentally prepare of the discomfort of 230km in the saddle

I am Gauteng based, so was thinking of trying out Race to the Sun, as a "test" run early next year,

Hope itā€™s not to early to start this group up. I might just be over eager, but have entered the race, and looking to complete my first TB, As always, will be good to have the forum for useful tips and motivation as we go along. First question I have is best accommodation options for the night before? Cheers
  15. Apologies, should have tried a bit more before posting, Fiddled a bit more and went through MyCycleLife and the delivery came down to R100, guess itā€™s probably easier just to go in store for smaller ticket itemsā€¦.
  16. Live in Pretoria, granted this showed up before completing the delivery address, I proceeded further to check out now and gave my address but didnā€™t appear to amend the delivery price ????ā€ā™‚ļø
  17. Was shopping around online for some new grips, came across the below on CycleLabs website, proceeded to checkout but was absolutely shocked at the delivery cost, while I appreciate online is probably not their core business surely they would want to remain somewhat competitiveā€¦..
  18. My Giant Anthem, had her since December but havenā€™t had chance to post ....
  19. Currently with Discovery. My first bike was insured for R 90/month, with a R 500 excess, just upgraded, the new bike R160/month but they bumped the excess up to R5000, they advised bikes over R30k attract a minimum excess of R5K, seems a bit steep.
