JL, nice signature .....
he obviously doesnt do DH
errm, NaCl or sodium chloride, or more commonly known as salt. When a solid we use it as a food substance or for melting ice. Molten salt is used in solar concentrators to transport the capture solar heat and trasnferred to a secondary medium like water which is turned into steam.
a pedestrian actually has more probability of escaping an accident, a cyclist doesn't. Velocity vectors dont lie. Also, when they get stupid going the wrong way, they get more stupid with those lights, blinding motorists who supposed to stay in the left lane, right lane for overtaking. But no, now motorists must move to the right just to make way for the roadie in teh wrong with a lazer upfront. the idiocy is compounding by the pedal stroke.
and that 1.5m rule? does it still apply that you are doing the wrong thing going in the wrong direction?
also, who has right of way between two cyclists going in opposite directions on the same portion of verge? There's a thread about such stupidity around somewhere. It's as silly as the roadie in the morning along teh cycle lane that refuses to ride on the dedicated cycle lane, rides in the road instead, and going against traffic. I mean seriously, are you (not the OP) that important whoever you are? yikes.
shuttling was for practice. take away practice. no more shuttles.
I'm with the thread directon traffic cop, in that no shuttles for enduro races. Liking the idea of a prologue though. That urban bit for Punta Ala was good publicity. They should have something similar here for all enduro events.
Morons like this really p*ss me off. It's illegal, dangerous and bloody stupid. The other day I turned left around a corner in my car only to find an MTBer in the road riding the wrong way towards me. How the tonsil survived not getting hit by my two and a half ton vehicle amazes me. I presume this was a supposedly intelligent and well employed individual judging by his bike. Why do so many cyclists brains disappear up their arses when they get on a bike?
good question. noted another level of darwinism the other day, when a roadie decided to ride down the wrong way in the road, right next to a dedicated cycling lane. Some people are just so much better than everyone else....
Damn you 5FM for making this stick in my head. Don't even know what she's saying
still a vibey tune.
that photo above holds a bit of irony: helmet off but still the winner.
There's been some debate, not officially or even semi-officially, about whether fab really won or not. The offending image, as used by peaty in his little jibe to the organisers, is this one from PB:
http://gp1.pinkbike.org/p5pb9604716/p5pb9604716.jpg
according to the discussion, the Enduro World Series rulebook states a rider must wear a helmet at all times during the event. The internet has taken that to mean that Fab should have been penalized for not wearing it properly: down and d-clips buckled up.
as a generalisation, that everything works out the same after vat, customs and whatnot is a gross overstatement. What I have noticed of late however, is that there is increasing price parity on items, and in some instances, it's massively cheaper at the my LBS of choice.
However, I'd still pay for variety and choice, and this where local is just downright not lekker. Much of the northern hemisphere winter stuff will be going on sale now, and try get that stuff here, much less at the prices you will eventually pay for it.
I hate Spaz even more now... shows true colours: snake luring Aaron out of agreement with lots of money...
gentleman's agreement as for as LOIs are concerned (but then again, the full details as to what he signed for are unknown here). nonetheless, the dramatics aside, at the end of it all, it's Gwin's decision. This is more a reflection on him and his state of mind. What that is and motivated the change is unnknown. But so far, it smells of douchebaggery of note.
I use the same film they stick on cars to protect the paintwork. It works extremely well protecting against stone chips, stick like you can't believe and it lasts! I used this one, but can't remember where I got it from (5 years later ) Try motorbike shops, they use it too.
local source?
yikes, the only bit of lunacy left to be bragged about is Lance's straightfaced confession.
Interesting. Here on my training routes I find that taxis show more respect than many others on the road. It is all a matter of respect for each other. That said, if I had to move to a place like JHB, I would probably hang up my bike. I would be too scared to cycle there.
that's been my experience as well: taxis have been very mindful, as well as truck drivers. Car drivers give most crap, but that's probably cos they are not on the drive whole day and climb into a car with a bunch of stress from work/home/last memory of inconsiderate cyclists. BUt the rank worst experiences thus far come from tour bus drivers. They scare the crap outta me.
it would be preferable the roadies get over themselves and unbunch in more ways than one, then no need for unnecessary pills to bypass the irritations taking up the road. Attitudes like kosmo's undermines mutual respect on the road, because each side tells the other to take a chill pill. just flipping awesome. i guess when a cyclist jumps a red robot despite there being traffic around to trigger a normal light change, the traffic officer and everyone else must also take a chillpill.
well well, time to invest in chillpills.
moonlight mass at night is 'convenient', as more often than not, rules of the road go far out the window on these rides. I just hope our well meaning intentions this evening around the back end of peak hour (still a crap of vehicles in and out of the city, especially in sea point) dont reveal the hypocrisy when it comes to riders respecting the rules of the road while demanding the same and more from motorists.
so it's not 5pm as previously mentioned: confirmed for 6pm? Start a separate thread or list all the start times and dates in the first post.
why not? it's an accurate description of their demographic, no? No element of stereotyping or racial bias.
seems the underworld+dog has cottoned onto the value of bicycles in general: stuff's just rolling around, most times, completely untraceable, and with bikes being kitted out as they are, represent a sizable resale proposition.Meals on wheels...
and given what CIppo just poste, seems like a syndicate behind the thefts. Too well organized.
Ok just checked. He amassed 11953 during his career. Sachin is on 15600 odd
but knowing Lara, he probably did that in like 5 innings.. :/
skinnyone: while u on that course, take particular attention to the testing criteria applied to aircrafts, and then revisit your analogy about failures on bikes versus those on airplanes.
Spit happens, this is probably one of those instances. CF is not a panacea to all things breakable, as your second generalisation pointed out that 1% dont suffer impact prior to failure. Anyway, the OPs more pissed he didn't get some proper loving from whomever he is dealing with.
maybe the OP needs some slack: been going through a website dedicated to carbon fibre failures (loads of love there ), and it seems quite a few folks have had sudden failures without crashes. One guy in particular said he's bike failed after hitting a transition from a descent to an uphill.
anyway, seems those clean breaks are quite common and happen elsewhere on CF bikes. thta's the roll of the dice it seems with CF parts.
Yes, so I thought as well, until another chap snapped his carbon frame at Thaba a week or so ago, same clean snap, no tears....
yikes, pics perhaps? dare i ask: brand of bike/fork?
was thinking of this type of failure:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_uDEV4tFXYVM/SCOKUQRedQI/AAAAAAAAAGo/C3PDkjyRlzQ/s1600/DSCF3295.JPG
This however, was from a well used fork, bontrager though, not crackendale. Maybe the more sudden failures are cleaner.
It looks cut, carbon splinters. Eish.... JRA....
I'm glad someone actually mentioned this. That does not look like the failure of a composite product. No fibrous endings from the photo. Could the OP post a close up of those broken ends?

indeed they do, and it's normally a mix of nitrates, eg KNO3, CaNO3, or NaNo3. The use of table salt was a deliberate, but somewhat misleading oversimplification. Agreed.
