  1. Had a major bonk today. Not the good kind. Went for an 80km spin, during which I was to do 4x 10min sub-threshold intervals. 2 minutes into my final interval I start to feel the wagon coming unhitched. I was 35km from home, with little drink left, no food left, and nowhere to get either. Cycling into a major headwind, and suddenly swaying and struggling like I was cycling along, a foot deep in treacle. 90 minutes later while I'm still 3km from home the twinges I've been feeling turn into full-blown cramps. Those last 3km will haunt me for some time to come. It took me over 30 minutes to do those 3km. Never before have I been so glad to see home. I was just wondering how bad can a person bonk and still keep going?
  2. My 305 was changed 3 times, no problems. I sold my last replacement unit still unopened. I believe the problem lies with the unit shorting out because the holder gives it no cushioning, just my opinion. I loved my Garmin, and found the after-sales service top notch, unfortunately though the 305 is a lemon with serious issues.
  3. My Powertap hub stopped transmitting/working 2 weeks ago. I tried everything to get it going again. Funny thing is, at the same time my HR strap stopped working as well. I opened the HR strap up and found that the battery had leaked and most likely had destroyed the electronics. I purchased a new HR strap but I couldn't link it to the CPU. Eventually we (the CT dealer and I) decided that the CPU was faulty. I replaced it, linked the HR strap, but still no luck with the hub. The dealer made me change the batteries in the hub again, specifying Energizers. But again nothing. I went for a ride yesterday, using the CPU and HR strap. I punctured, changed the tube, and lo and behold, my watts appeared again. I can only put it down to how the hub was seated. Can anyone shed more light on this for me.
  4. Hi, My Powertap has started losing my devices. It lost the hub, and the HR strap. I got it to relearn the HR strap, but it only functions for a short time and then stops again. I've tried new batteries in everything, different HR straps, and downloaded the latest firmware, all to no avail. Can anyone assist while I've still got a few tufts of hair left on my head still.
  5. 2 years in a row Racetec have given me incorrect timing because the mat under the finish post has failed to read my chip, and I've been given the back-up time of the second mat. Had my chip checked and no problem detected. It wouldn't bother me if I wasn't sprinting for a place, but I was, so it does. Anyone else experience this.
  6. The max I set for myself is the max I reach during absolutely intense efforts. I can reach this max occasionally. The other 'max', where my heart rate spikes, that is pure adrenaline, and not something I can ever reach during intense effort. My mate is a solid 184max. Or so he thought he was, until he was chased up a hill by a pair of mad dogs. 184 seemed tame compared to what he reached.
  7. My max heart rate is 187. My Threshold rate is 174 Recently I sat several times in a race above 180bpm over a period of 8 minutes. In another race I hit 200bpm during a very intense spurt. Twice after that in the same race I hit 190bpm.I've put it all down to adrenaline.
  8. I rode one of these as a kid overseas. My mom got me a summer job delivering telegrams. We were supplied with a "High Nellie" bike, complete with the above saddle. Incredibly comfortable as I remember. Ah, before the internet, email, and Text messages. Saturday was the busy day. Everyone sent telegrams to weddings in those days. Great day for me, big tips, cake, juice, all the good things in life for a 14 year old kid.
  9. Spelling is very important in this commercial world. I heard of a chap who wanted to open a brothel, and ended up forking out large sums of cash to his dyslexic builder who built him a Warehouse.
  10. ? Believe not beleive.?ooopppes mist that won Whenever not "when ever". Makes me 'sic'.
  11. I gives a toss an I cares, dat's who. So go and pedal your Irise nonsonse somewhere else and give ons a brake.
  12. USN Cramp Block works really well for me. Take before during, and after the race. I usually crush mine up and add them to my drinks for during races. Do not do weights. Very easy spinning works well. Very easy.
  13. 2 scoops Peptopro 2 Scoops Game 1 tsp Glutamine 500ml Water (Warning- This mix tastes like dehydrated church mouse)

    SA's

I don't give a rat's a$$ if someone rides and wins everything. What I object to are team tactics being employed in these particular races. I really don't care who wins whatever category. If they can (on their own) then they deserve it, and well done to them. If they employ team tactics however, then the whole team should be on the podium. That's all.

    SA's

Not at all. But there are reasons why they have TTT's, and then just TT's. It's always the TT's that show true form. You can never really see the true form of an individual in a TTT. Or am I mistaken?
  16. iPod, dvd's, tv, anything it takes. If I could get drunk and do it, I would. Great way of training, but mind-numbingly boring. You will completely understand Einstein's theory of relativity when you've been on a trainer for 2 hours. "The duration of time remaining upon an IDT has an exponential expansion rate in direct proportion and relative to the square of the duration of time having already passed." Time slows to a crawl.

    SA's

I'm a bit silly, but as I'd never competed in them before, I was under the impression that Provincials and SA's were for individuals. Unfortunately at our provincials I found out that teams worked to set their guys up. This diminished the race for me. Because it was no longer about the best and strongest rider, it was about the best team. However, it was good to see some teams take a beating from one or two genuine strong riders who blew them away. My 2c worth.
  18. 80min on the trainer is as good as 100min on the road. There are less distractions, no robots, potholes etc to worry about. Your work-rate will be higher on a trainer, unfortunately your boredom threshold will arrive a lot quicker.
  19. I've purchased plenty from CRC. Never had a problem. I recently bought two pairs of shoes and a camelbak from CRC for the same price that one pair of the shoes cost from my LBS, and that included shipping with Parcel Force. I'm all for internet shopping, 'cos I'm damn tired of being fleeced locally.
  20. I've read most of the posts on this subject, and here's my 2c. To the lady who was assaulted; don't ride alone, and if you see assholes riding without lights or helmets leave them alone, a motorist or trucker will most likely remove them from the gene pool anyway. To the two big brave lads who assaulted the lady; shame on you two wife-beating Neanderthals. If she verbally abused you and you felt so strongly about it verbally abuse her back if that's what it takes to stroke your little egos, and then leave it. Or did assaulting her make you both hot and sweaty for each other? To all those who support these apes behaviour; double shame on you small-cock dipsh*ts. Your wives, daughters, and mothers must be very proud of you all.
  21. ack in the old days before cycling (BC) ,I was a smoker.. I stopped at the Garage to fill fuel, and while I was there my passanger emptied my full ashtray onto the forecourt. I was gobsmacked. When I asked why he'd done such a stupid thing, when the bin was 2 meters away, he replied that "it keeps people employed". I've heard a lot of stupid things in my life, but litterbugs believing that people should be paid to pick up behind them is ridiculous. Same goes for cyclists.
  22. Unfortunately because there's willing buyers of stolen property out there, incidences like this will happen.
  23. Looking for tri -bike.
  24. Sent in my unit for repair to Garmin. Received a new unit post-haste. Very impressed. Well done Garmin.
  25. Does anyone have, or can anyone point me in the right direction to, a training program that will allow me to complete a four day tour. +- 120km per day.
