  1. I did the Amashova this weekend. I had a dozen bananas and 3 liters of 32GI to sustain me. However I ran out of bananas when the Standard Bank pirates attacked my group and I had to throw them with bananas to fend them off. I was extremely fortunate to be able to get another dozen at a water point. I have also suffered from 'Banana Droop" on occasion, but strangely it's normally caused by fermented grapes. Maybe they're loaded with potassium too.
  2. What are the side-effects of using bananas and 32GI. Does this increase or decrease my overall risk of a cardiac event. Say on an average 2hr 30km ride I eat six bananas and have 1 or 2 750ml bottles of 32GI is there a chance I could be overdoing it?
  3. It depends on the size and quality of the bananas too. Not all bananas are born equal.
  4. I once had a banana and climbed a big hill and nearly suffered the same fate. Since then i limit myself to no more than eight bananas per ride, avoid the big hills, and my heart feels great. I would think that anything over 20 bananas per ride would be considered excessive. However I've hear of people who have a much higher tolerance who can take two dozen on board with no side-effects. I think it all depends on your present level of fitness.
  5. I rode in this race. We had a Police car as a lead vehicle in our group. On a fast downhill section (Happy Hill) where we were clocking 80kph+ we had a car pull into the group from behind. He totally disregarded the Police vehicle and acted like a complete ass endangering everybody. My opinion is that the marshals seemed to be doing a fairly decent job. However the lack of full road closure can cause problems when it's combined with dangerous/negligent drivers and a lot of cyclists. It makes my blood boil. My condolences to the family of the lady killed.
  6. What a dumbass reply. Get a life bud.
  7. Sounds great. Where can one download a gps route?
  8. Is there anyone doing a CRC order for Bad pies in the Durban area? What are the import duties on Bad pies?
  9. Remember that quantity doesn't equate to quality. There's training, and then there's quality training. High quality training can make you as strong or stronger than high quantity training.
  10. 07h00 1/2 cup rolled oats with 1 cup fat free milk and 4-5 nuts. Or, 2 eggs and 1 slice of toast. 09h45 1 fruit + 2-3 nuts. 12h30 Soup, veg or salad, 2x slices bread, 120g lean meat, 2 fruit. 15h00 2 fruit. 19h00 soup, 120g lean meat, veg, fruit or pudding. Coffee with fat free milk throughout the day. 30-50g carbs per hour extra on the bike. Keeps me at 68kg.
  11. I've taken up smoking recently and must say I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's interesting to see that over 50% of the people in the poll have been smokers at one time or another.
  12. My height is 178cm I weigh 68.2kg My body fat is 7%
  13. The funniest I ever saw was my mate after he'd keeled over at a robot because he'd forgotten that he was clipped in. He got up all embarrassed and started cycling away red-faced. He then saw that his left shifter was skew... so he belted it with the back of his hand to straighten it, causing the handlebars to jerk sideways, and sure as hell ........another unexpected brush with the tar.
  14. Try changing the batteries in the hub. This is often the problem.
  15. Contador did nothing wrong. He was right to attack his main rival when he dropped his chain. Tomorrow I hope he has the nuts to attack during Andy's nature call or possibly in the feed zone. Contador should maybe get Vino to deliberately crash into Andy (Schumacher style) and then he should attack. After all, when you've hit rock-bottom amongst your peers it's not like you can sink any lower.
  16. I know that feeling. I got goosebumps up my back, my stomach turned over, and the family jewels dug in when the dog attacked today. three weeks ago i was with a lady when we were attacked. That was much worse because she wasn't at all strong and they were on us for a kay or so. Used up both of our water bottles and even threw my gel bottle at them.
  17. I'm tired of getting attacked by dogs. The only route available to me sees me trying to disperse attacking dogs with water bottles, pumps, or whatever at least once a week. I cannot describe the sensations when a dog attacks you. Anyway I invested in pepper spray about 2 months ago. I used it for the first time on an attacking dog today. My word, what an effect. Instant non-aggression. Lets hope he tells his chommies.

Does anybody know where I can send my Tacx Flow to have a new speed sensor fitted?
  19. You've met the 5% of roadies who give the 95% of roadies a bad name. Bad luck. But sometimes selfish roadies are like buses, they come in groups.
  20. I'm now sitting waiting for a bike shop to open in CT (day before the Argus) because the chop that I loaned my wheels to didn't re-assemble my cassette correctly and it's missing a spacer. Grrrrrrr grrrrrr Never again will I loan out equipment.
  21. I'm wearing black socks Sunday. They go nicely with my Astana 2010 kit.
  22. Volcan were there at the Sani2C and they lubed my bike and gave it the once-over for free each day. Great bikes, and great service from the Volcan dudes. On Day 2 they changed out the brake pads, only charging me for the parts. My next bike......another Volcan.
  23. Just got an entry today....replacing an injured partner. And woohooohooo I am fitter than my partner.
  24. Glad to see there're a lot of people out there who've shared my experience. After yesterday's bonk I got home and ate a mountain of bread, a slab of chocolate, and washed it down with about 2 litres of Lucozade. I then climbed onto my bed (shoes still on) and passed out for 6 hours. I woke again at about 01h30 and cleaned out the contents of the fridge. Today I'm feeling much better (albeit a bit shakey), but definately not looking forward to this afternoon's recovery ride.
  25. If I'd had any moisture left spare in my body I'd have certainly cried the whole of those last 3 kilometers.
