  1. NPA wins appeal in Zuma case 12/01/2009 11:19 - (SA Good!!
  2. Absolutely right. Why not? If he had the same experience at PnP or Checkers would you have said the same thing? It doesn't help to defend a store's bad behaviour and poor service just because we are cyclists and have our favourite LBS. If someone gets k*k service at a shop then they should let us know about it.
  3. A lot of Hubbers have been around the country. Cape Town, Durban, Jo'burg etc. So besides your own LBS, where have you seen the best bike shop, the one that's had the best stock, and service, and gone the extra mile? For me it's definately Leigh's Cycle Center in Dbn.
  4. When I went up for the 94.7 I ventured into CycleLab Fourways. My mate swears by it, and had raved about if for ages to me. It was reasonably busy, there seemed to be a lot of last-minute maintenance going on. I wasn't approached to see if I required assistance, but it didn't matter as I was happy to browse for myself. Andrew was there, behind the counter, and many staff were about. What did strike me as odd was the terrible lay-out of the store. maybe they'd just finished stocktake or something, but the store was a mess. My LBS is far smaller than this CL, but his stock is laid out far better, and it's far easier to find what I want. The same goes for CL Dbn. That too is laid out far better. In fairness though, it was the Saturday before the 94.7, so they'd probably had people rummaging through the store for a week. My 2c worth. Next time I'm up there I'll go in to see if my first impressions were wrong, and my mate is right.
  5. Judge 'overstepped authority' 12/01/2009 10:29 - (SA) Want to know more? A lower court had thrown out the charges against Zuma on a technicality, ruling that he was entitled to make a statement to prosecutors before being charged. The previous ruling also implied that political meddling had played a role in the prosecution - a claim that led the African National Congress to recall former president Thabo Mbeki. But the Supreme Court said as it began to read out its verdict that the lower court had "overstepped the limits of its authority" by hinting at political interference in the case. Judgment is continuing. - AFP < = =text/> function pop(url) { window.open(url); } var u = window.location.href; x=window; e=x.encodeURIComponent; var windowTitle = e(escape(document.title)); function checkIt() { } function checkit() { var oldText = document.title; var newText = oldText.replace(/'/g,"'") return newText; } < =text/> .osblacktxt {font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10px; color:#000000; size:75px; text-decoration: none;} .osblacktxt a {font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10px; color:#000000; size:75px; text-decoration: none;} .osblacktxt a:hover {font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10px; color:#000000; size:75px; text-decoration: underline;} .osredtxt a {font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10px; color:#cc0000; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;} .osredtxt {font-family:Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10px; color:#cc0000; text-decoration:none; font-weight:bold;} .sa_cont_img td {width: 70px;} .outbox td {width: 106px;}
  6. I bought her a microwave for her birthday. It was quite expensive...but what the hell, I felt like it was the least I could do, after I'd run over her on my bike. I told her she was to blame, but it probably was my fault. I really shouldn't have been cycling in the kitchen.
  7. Well she was hinting all December about not having any way to check the time. The stove was the perfect solution. It was either that or a nice wall clock....but hey, you can't cook the roast on a wall clock.
  8. She only uses the laptop to check what the time is. And for Christmas I bought her a new stove with a clock on it.
  9. She comes indoors if it starts storming or hailing. There also a lot of housework that needs attending to. And beer that needs fetching from the fridge. It's not going to fetch itself!!
  10. Do you think that I would write this if she was on the Hub. No, at this moment in time she is outside, just finished washing my car, and mowing the lawn.
  11. She's not really into stainless, and I do let her call the shots in her domain. She's got really small feet as well. It's very useful, it allows her to stand much closer to the kitchen sink.
  12. My wife will be dressed in white at our wedding. That way she'll look good next to all the other white kitchen appliances.
  13. I so want to use the gotcha word right now.. i so want to use the p-word right now?
  14. A wife in charge of a remote. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. My wife wants me to stop. The kids want me to stop. Even the labradoodle (maltese x) wants me to stop. The wife said, " it's me or the Hub". Damm. I'm going to miss her.
  16. The Stig is so nice, he drives with his window open to point out potholes for cyclists.
  17. HERE IT GOES AGAIN, THE CAN IS OPEN, LET THE WORMS FLOW. WHO'LL BE THE FIRST TO PLAY THE RACE CARD??
  18. Take it back where you purchased it, and get them to repair it under warranty. Schwinn will reimburse them, and you do not jepordise your warranty.
  19. 6.4kg Cervelo, Dura Ace, Zipp 202's,
  20. The very first time I took my 11 year old daughter out on the road a boy racer drove (in my estimation) above 100kph in a 40kph zone, and passed within 20cm of us with his hand glued to the hooter. We were in single file, me at the rear with a flashing hazard light, both of us wearing neon green tops, and in broad daylight on a Sunday afternoon. What he didn't reckon on were the line of speed humps on the road and his taxi's piss poor flying (and landing) abilities. I had the greatest pleasure in cycling up to him, and telling him quite politely about life and karma. Two security guards who saw what happened were in hysterics. My daughter thought it was the scariest but funniest thing that she's ever seen. I was just very happy that we were uninjured.
  21. What are the best Power Drinks, Gels or Combos available for hard training and competing in 100km Road Races?
  22. I saw a pair of shoes at my LBS. CRC were about 30% cheaper. When I weighed up the cost of duty and vat my LBS were only slighter costlier. I returned to my LBS, had a bit of a negotiation, paid up, and left the store with my shoes and peace of mind knowing that I can return them if I have a problem. However if I was buying costly parts, and didn't need them the next day, I'd probably use CRC. Why? Well because I often feel that I'm way overpaying for stuff from the LBS. There's no consistancy. It's like going from petrol station to petrol station and the price varies by 100%.
  23. Yeah, I'd forgotten about the "Lets See How Close I can Get To You Drivers". In general though, I've had much more pleasantness from Taxis than I've had nonsense. They're normally just out to do their business and get home to their wives and kids, much like the rest of us. However......you do not want to get me started on lady pensioners. There's something about getting a pension card that turns a lot of them into crazy inconsiderate drivers. The one that gets me the most is how they hoot at me, just as their car draws level with me, reducing my lifespan by several months each time.
  24. I just came back from a long ride, 160km, between the South Coast and Pietermaritzburg. I used the R603 that runs from the South Coast past Umbumbulu through Umlaas Road. I turned around a little after Camperdown. I had the pleasure of having a taxi (half full) riding alongside me for about 500m whilst the front passenger, who was still full of the joys of New Year's Eve, leaned through the window screaming at me to give him a cigarette, much to the amusement of his fellow drunken buddies. Fortunately the bunch of Einsteins eventually got tired of harrassing at me, and sped off........no doubt, to go and continue their amusement elsewhere at the expense of some other outnumbered poor unfortunates. In June last year (2008) I also had the pleasure of having a car full of prats drive towards me, stop, and then reverse (matching my speed) alongside me for about 500m, until thankfully we crested a hill and I was able to outmatch their speed on a downhill. Are these isolated incidences? Am I just having bad luck, or have other Hubbers had similar experiences?
  25. I've been supporting my LBS through the years as far as my purchases go. I've seen on Chain Reaction Cycles a pair of shoes that are approx 35% cheaper than my LBS can offer them to me. What are the duties taxes etc going to do to this cost if I purchase them online? I've seen a few things that I want so my total purchase is over R3800 which means I don't have to fork out for delivery. Has anyone else purchased from CRC, and if so how would you rate the experience? I have purchased from CWC here in SA and it was straightforward.
