  7. Interesting article above, ...do u think that number of ladies tracking the epic is an indication of number of ladies who are competing in the sport, or ladies following their husbands, boyfriends etc.....9 percent of the field are women.... 23 percent are following...hoping this is an indication of a changing dynamic in mountain biking.
  8. There has been an average of 5 123 online mentions about the #absacapeepic per day since it started on Sunday, March 23rd. Individuals have been consistently mentioning the Absa Cape Epic race online; a very noteworthy pattern indicating to high community interest and dedication over the eight-day-long event. The first day of an event usually sees the highest volume of online conversation, with a decline evident thereafter. This is not the case with the Absa Cape Epic, which has maintained consistent attention online. This is according to BrandsEye, the world’s first crowd-supported online monitoring and insights company, who adds that 7 828 individuals have been contributing to this conversation, which has totalled 25 623 online mentions between the start of the race on the 23rd and yesterday, the 27th. BrandsEye’s CEO, JP Kloppers says this indicates that a tight community of people are interested in the events of the race and are speaking about it amongst themselves, resulting in an average of 3.3 online mentions per individual. The conversation has been aggregated, revolving around the event’s popular hashtag, #absacapeepic, which has been included in 75% of all online conversation over the past 5 days. Next to @AbsaCapeEpic, online authors to produce the highest number of mentions have included Andre Ross (@The_Mr_Ross), 229 mentions, Team Bulls (@TeamBulls), 160 mentions, Sean Badenhorst (@Mr_TREAD), 147 mentions, and Kevin McCallum (@Kevin McCallum), 135 mentions, who are seemingly using Twitter to live-tweet the events of each day. From his 147 online mentions, Sean Badenhorst has managed to generate 725 retweets and replies (engagements) to his content. This could be the result of his high credibility on Twitter (4 901 followers), in addition to his influence in the mountain biking industry, JP notes. One of the key themes to arise in the online conversation has been the ‘stage’ at which the bikers are at in the race. This further supports the trend of participants and viewers live-tweeting the race as it happens. In addition to the stages of the race, individuals are also talking about the ‘riders’, including those such as @nschurter and @philbuys. BrandsEye’s online data has shown that, of the tight community of individuals participating in the online conversation around the Absa Cape Epic, 88.9% of the conversation is taking place on Twitter, and, of the gender information available, 76.6% of authors are male, compared to 23.4% who are female. Could this be an indication only of the online authors, or does it reflect the offline participation by females in the race? Will the online conversation remain consistent until Sunday? How might it change, and what will cause this change? BrandsEye is the Absa Cape Epic’s preferred choice of online monitoring and insights provider. For a summary report of the online conversation across the entire race, keep an eye out for BrandsEye’s findings next week! ABOUT BRANDSEYE BrandsEye is a South African born online monitoring and insights company, founded in 2008 as an independent company, with distribution partners in the UK, Kenya, and South Africa. The tool is the first crowd-supported online monitoring software tool, which tracks, measures and reports online brand conversations for better business
  9. Wow 18 ladies in total versus 233 men in the 60km race? Makes my result look good but would love to see more ladies join this sport
  10. Phil and Nino....that will be a serious combination!! So if Scott factory racing is teaming up local talent and international talent ...guess specialised will do the same!! 2014 is going to be a killer year.
  11. Thanks all....so when do the big teams announce the 2014 team line ups?
  12. Please can someone help me...I follow Sauser on strava and he has been riding a lot in Stellenbosch recently with Kleinhans, do u think they will be a team for 2014 or just riding together as they are friends? When are the big teams announced for 2014 and who do u think they will be? Would also love to see some local and international rider combinations.

I bought my bike from cajees little falls, a Scott, but now they have lost the Scott franchise no use in going there. And ur wife better get used to pink...everything thats ladies cycling comes in damn pink... Struggle to find gear that's not big opp for a retailer to catch onto this insight !!
  15. Cadence training was my answer this year...cannot believe the massive improvement in my riding this year...smashed my time from last year and I believe most people who attended the classes this year did the same. No more double spinning sessions for me, , 2 classes a week and 2 training rides at the weekend made the N14 a breeze and the last 20 km was cracking to overtake everyone on the hills. Not only are the classes great but they are full of some awesome people with massive experience both on mtb and on the road. Am no expert on training, but this is really working for me.
  16. Jacques u have a point when I was finishing people were still starting....
  17. Just saw on facebook that some 55km riders were stopped due to bottlenecks and told to do 33 odd km....not good!! But after riding the course today there was only one place that caused bottle necks the rest was open and fast flowing. Not sure what the solution is bar smaller batches based on sas seedlings.
  18. I enjoyed the mtb, heat was a killer though! Lots of awesome climbs
  19. Wowzers guys!!! Thanks for the ultra spectacular work !!
  20. Weather , if a race is just a training event in prep for a big one or stage race not worth getting sick in the rainNot sure what event you are talking about and where ... But weather in joburg was *** today! Wife / husband ....how is that an excuse unless a family emergency?
  21. Am doing both mtb and road, sold my road bike for a mtb earlier this year and haven't looked back since....but am a little concerned that riding on the mtb will be rough going on the tar.. slicks seem like an expensive option just for one day. How much will this slow me down?
  22. A bit bleak though as this will effect my series result
  23. Ha ha, started in b batch felt really flat so rode with the c batch riders , ended up doing 32.4 how are the distances so radically different, and at no point did I feel lost, until the Marshall at the end said we were at 48 km mark...
