    Argus 2014

Yeah my reaction also... are we allowed to cut the thing smaller?

    Argus MTB

Didn't have last year as well so didn't expect anything different this year. The T-shirts looks nice, but you had to buy one.
  3. % Oh dear... mmm, well here goes nothing I guess. Bring on the pain
  4. Anyone know when or where we get to see seeding? I haven't heard or seen anything...
  5. Same here, sorted me out when I got proper roadie gloves.
  6. A for me.... Been used to riding in O for PPA, reseeded recently to F... I'm feeling a little bit out of my depth here but will have to give it a go I guess!
  7. What a race! I'm still recovering... Was very lucky to latch onto the Outriders Club train, did my fair share of the work too... first time I really got involved in something like that (only my second real road race)... man it works well if the guys are organized! Lost the group at the second last water point where I HAD to stop as I was all out and needed to refill, wasn't gonna make it to the end. TOUGH last 15 - 20ks into that SE... damn next time I'll have to ration a bit better Started in O, managed a 05:24 which I'm quite chuffed about
  8. I'm in O so maybe we'll start together as I understand the group are quite large... dunno if I'm strong enough rider though, not much experience with road races. Did the Argus and then West Coast Express (which was loads of fun and the first real taste of bunch riding). Way different to the MTB races I'm used to. Eager! EDIT: Oh I will be on a road bike
  9. Well if you look at Malmesbury and Stellies weather forecasts it looks a hell of a lot better than say Milnerton or against the coast... feeling a bit better about it though, gonna be a jol.
  10. Bring it!! Who am i kidding...
  11. http://www.cycletour.co.za/index.php/information/seeding-events/ "To determine your seeding, we use your best result in Cycle Tour seeding events or the average of your best 3 other results if that is better." Not sure if this has changed from previous years...
  12. I think he meant, it will effect your time... you will be slower. This is bad as the gap between you and winner will be larger hence the X+Y. Your point even motivates this further... bad news all round
  13. It sounds like I did not pick a great year to do my first one
  14. I'm feeling brave as well and entered last night too... will be my longest ride ever so not sure what to expect from the legs, trying to figure out the nutrition as well. Not too bad fitness wise I recon... gonna be tough though I'm sure!
  15. Got the Spez Tarmac Sport in the end, little bit over my budget but I can't remember when I've actually stuck to a budget when buying a bike 20% off deal at Cyclefunatic on selected Road bikes, great service there too! Took it for a spin over the weekend and VERY happy with it
  16. lol, thanks for the vote of confidence Mads!
  17. Agreed on getting a good quality frame, rest I can upgrade as I go. I have a really good option on a Specialized Tarmac Sport (new). I've been to a shop that measured me etc and I did a few test runs on different sizes and I can go 58 or 61 but they recon 58 can give me more options as far as setup goes. I just need to convince myself that spending the little extra is worth it!
  18. Thanks guys, I think the best is probably to keep an eye on the classifieds. Although I have a few options (new) I'll be looking over the weekend just to get the ball rolling, nice to have options.
  19. Still on my path to finding "the one" all options so far has been great. Any opinions on the Allez Elite? http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/road/allez/allezelitemidcompact
  20. I'll make sure I try both sizes, tried a 58cm cannondale but felt like bigger could be more comfortable. Would like to test a bigger size for myself though before making a decision.
  21. Thanks guys, keep 'em coming... Felt and Secteur looks good but how do they compare against the carbon frames? I don't mind spending the extra to ensure I don't want to upgrade really soon after. I'll definitely dig around and research those though!
  22. I've been keeping my eye but not knowing what size I should get I'd probably rely on the advice from where I buy. Not many options available at present for me but I'll keep looking out though. I have a XL Specialized Epic Comp MTB. I'm 193cm tall and I've worked out I'm either 58cm or 61cm for road bike depending on the geometry. Size charts is also a guess sometimes
  23. I looked at those Space 2: http://www.cyclefact...s-2013.html#CBN The space 1 looks a bit expensive but maybe I should wait for the 2014 to see the price drop?
  24. I need some advice on options for a new road bike I would like to buy. I am more of a MTB'er and have been riding a hardtail which I have used in the road Argus as well. Since then I have upgraded to a dual sus and the gearing 2x10 drivetrain is not really suited for road. I train on the road often aswell and would like to enter more road events. I have been looking and found the Scott CR1 Comp very attractive. http://www.scott-spo...-comp-cd20-s52/ I've looked at the 2012 Cannondale CAAD 8 Tiagra coming in at the lower end of my budget, but I think carbon frame is probably more worth it and putting in the extra $$ will save me from wanting to upgrade again later. Other bike I looked at was the Giant TCR. I was hoping anyone could point out a few other options they think is worth while and how they stack up to the above bikes?
