  4. The Effects of a Ketogenic Diet on Exercise Metabolism and Physical Performance in Off-Road Cyclists. http://www.mdpi.com/...43/6/7/2493/htm I you don't want to read the entire study I have paste the ConclusionsIt can be concluded that long-term, high fat diets may be favorable for aerobic endurance athletes, during the preparatory season, when a high volume and low to moderate intensity of training loads predominate in the training process. High volume training on a ketogenic diet increases fat metabolism during exercise, reduces body mass and fat content and decreases post exercise muscle damage. Low carbohydrate ketogenic diets decrease the ability to perform high intensity work, due to decreased glycogen muscle stores and the lower activity of glycolytic enzymes, which is evidenced by a lower LA concentration and a maximal work load during the last 15 min of the high intensity stage of the exercise protocol
  5. I'm also a Middle aged man started cycling again in 2012 did my first 94.7 (Given a entry by friends at a braai) 115Kg and a loan MTB. Finished in 6H15. Then I got myself a bike and started to do races. My weight slowly came down and my fitness level were better. End of 2013 my weight were 109Kg and I was getting faster and pushing harder, then my real Problems started "Cramps". https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/132376-statins-and-cramps/ My cholesterol were very low "total were 2.9" Doctor kept me on statins took me of High blood pressure tabs. Then I started to investigate the cramps and concluded that it was the statins. Taken my self of statins end of October 2013. For the first time I dropped 4Kg down to 105Kg without changing my diet. Al the reading on statins also got me to LCHF. In April I finally convinced myself that HFLC was healthy and bought The real meal revolution. I'm now 95KG after 2 months Banting. I can now train harder and recover faster. Goal weight is 80 kg I'm 1,80m so 15 to go before the 94.7

  17. The MOC Research Task Force has created an online comprehensive cycling research library of over 8,000 articles pertaining exclusively to cyclists or cycling. The goal of this library is to make it easier for healthcare professionals and the cycling public to have greater access to the medical literature, as the search process can be time consuming and daunting if you are a busy provider or are unfamiliar with research search strategies. The library is sorted by category to make it easier to find what you need, with links to either the abstract or full text when available. Hopefully you will find this library useful! Check it out at http://www.medicineofcycling.com/research
