  1. this. think a lot of people are still confuzzled by this. just because its a grey import doesn't make it fake. ie. i've bought photo equipment from an online shop in new york. doesn't automaticallly mean they are fake. it does mean I waive local warantee and support. http://en.wikipedia....Parallel_import it does muddy the waters in a case like this though. how do you defend being sold a fake grey vs a genuine grey?
  2. We Are the Hub. You Will be Assimilated. Resistance is Futile.
  3. screw Carte Blanche. its only on once a week. The Hub is on all the time. ...and once The Hubbers pass Judgement... you are quite done for! Repeat after me: The Hub is wise. The Hub is good.
  4. well only 10 of those can afford such a bike anyway but yeah. sharing is caring.
  5. wtf are you on about? like i said its been established that the bike is fake. duh. maybe there is a reason the LBS argues that - its trying to hide behind the fact that he knew it was a grey... just playing devil's advocate here... am not bashing the OP at all. neither did I. but i accept that these are the toyota corollas of bicycles... probably not really worth counterfeiting them anyway - but a 90k Pina? must have missed it... my bad... its a long thread.. but no answer on it right? As i said not bashing the OP at all. Nor gray imports. I mean we all love a good bargain. Selling some something which its clearly not is truly machiavellian. Was merely wondering if the CPA offers any sort of protection regarding grays? And that answers that. ta GoLefty!!
  6. fascinating. putting the genuine/fake issue aside (i think we already have clarity on this), still unclear to me if OP purchased the bike fully knowing its a grey (parallel) import? the frame didn't have a serial number after all. so the shop uses the line "oh thats coz its a grey import, but its 100% genuine, same factory etc." lawd knows how many times i've been tempted by "grey" products to save a few bucks. in this case not sure how CPA offers any protection with regards to fake grey vs genuine grey?
  7. for that kinda money you'd be naive not to be. this whole thing is dodge. but i really hope for the sake of bman et al i am wrong.
  8. +1. my neighbourhood as well. my brother rides with his kids (kiddy carrier) along this route regularly as well... not cool at all...
  9. congrats and well done Jerome
  10. i know right? they should have at least made him do a SS conversion and rigid fronts...
  11. yeah man, was about to comment on that. he looks like a right outcast!
  12. well the amish crowd, who reject most modern tech, are okay with bikes. How cool is that! (check out the alpha in the mtb, lol) http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Xg5S1kp_KyM/Ughc_e-i3qI/AAAAAAAAETI/0fnE6e3AHSg/s1600/7840332406_66e20401fe_z.jpg
  13. etruscan religion < roman law < western Law. no argument from me there. so you can quit the finger wagging. just because a law is based on religion doesn't necessarily give it more crediblity nor does it make it more 'moral'. it also doesn't validate a particular religion either. unless you'd rather we be executing those burger flippers at McDonalds just because they work on a sunday. that's just insane.
  14. ooh harvard. tldr. wtf are you on about? its clearly against yours. this is extremely myopic: yep. apartheid certainly didn't harm others. its the law, certainly made you morally upright. go pull the other one. you even mentioned religion. now that's another oil tanker's worth of worms. now which of the thousands of religions do you seem is right? so are we back in the dark ages yet?
  15. "That's why we need the Porsche 911 dear." Hopefully then your wife will finally understand!
  16. I find this point of view extremely myopic. I guess this sort of thinking (or lack thereof) is the reason why stupid laws like apartheid were tolerated for such a long time. If legislated law is what defines your moral compass, then friend, you have bigger issues. You're probably the sort of person who would turn Anne Frank in to the Nazis. But hey that was the law, so its all legit. Laws are implemented, changed and revoked all the time. ie. the rule Capricorn mentioned above sounds a good idea... so how do we get the law amended to be more inclusive of cyclists? Jumping red lights willy-nilly is just plain stupid and dangerous, and stopping at every light regardless in my view would be a final supplication and admission that a motorist's time is more important than mine... In my view by simply a friendly wave, being visible, being courteous and being considerate goes way better than token obedience to road laws that are clearly designed for motor cars. Wishful thinking perhaps but just maybe then motorists will start to recognise cyclists as human beings and not just mobile road blocks.
  17. Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary Hail Mary I'm going to heaven!
  18. Totally agree. Sure we must obey the 'law'. But come on there are lots that we all consider dumb laws (let's open a whole barrel of worms here) like marijuana laws.. TV frikkin license.. BEE.. eTolls. just to name a few. And guess what guys, road laws as we have it were primarily designed with motor vehicles in mind. Road laws as it pertains to cyclists don't really suit our needs. So yeah bicycles skipping lights - when it is safe to do so - I really don't consider as an act of civil disobedience as much as it is common sense. Stopping at a red is really smart. But stopping at one when I'm in the cycle lane at 6am and there is no car for miles is also kinda stupid. Note that this train of thought is different when I'm in my car. I stop regardless. Common sense prevails. One of the advantages of commuting on a bike is there are a lot of (...more than 50? ) grey areas I can take advantage of. yellow line? sidewalk? 1,5m? lane split? where the hell are we supposed to ride anyways? I like riding my bike coz well I get to ride mostly where I want - and sometimes I even get to do it not wearing any underwear I guess what I'm saying to OP (original poster, not Oscar Pistorius) is... firstly I applaud your honesty. Secondly, I may not agree with everything you're saying... but I sure do understand PPS. This is from my POV as a commuter/mtb rider. Roadies riding in bunches and kamikazeing through red lights in traffic still horriffies and amazes me. PPS. Did you know that until recently women in Saudi Arabia were banned from riding a bicycle? Now how is that for a stupid law?! PPS. Highly recommended reading: "Bike Snob: Systematically & Mercilessly Realigning the World of Cycling" Okay my dorkiness only goes thus far. MockTurtle out.
