    Vibration !

good day all, thanks for the tips & "engaging" replies, for a sec. i thought i was back in physic's 3 ! will try out all the recomendations asap. One question i do need to open to the panel is this:- the vibration senario, is it common place & acceptable or do i persue the issue until it is resolved, that is if there is a solution to the problem ? Thanks again

    Vibration !

hey turtlek, no comment about the "dumb question", after all it's after 10pm, but thanks for the interest. Yes, my theory was the crank was not perfectly aligned with the frame @ 90 deg. & therefore when the chain was engaged the furtherest from the frame, ie the 50/11 gear, the error would be @ it's greatest. Just find it strange that this would be a problem with 2 brand new bikes !
  11. i won't mention a brand name, yet (an american brand), but it's a 10 speed with a semi compact crank (50/34 T), alu. with carbon stays & fork. When engaged in the biggest gear, 50/11, there is a noticable vibration on the pedals. This is the second new bike with the same problem, the bike rep., the shimano rep. & the head mechanic were unable to fix / resolve the original vibration problem & therefore replaced the entire bike. The shimano rep. reakons the casette, crank & chain need to be worn-in but that is such bullsh........!besides i've now done approx. 700 Km's & the vibration persists. Any comments, previous experience would be appreciated, ulimately the bike needs to be returned again, bought in November '08
  12. hey dirtbreath, sounds like you've already thrown that t-shirt away
  13. i find the best way to protect yourself on the roads these days, whether you're in your vehicle or riding your bike, is to assume that every other road user is clueless about road sense / safety, almost to expect the unexpected. However i do contradict myself a bit because when riding / racing in a bunch u definetly do put a lot of faith in the person that is only a split second in front of you ! Hopefully we'll see less cycling accidents this year.
  14. hey dougaroony, also waiting in anticipation to your querie
  15. hey dirtbreath, that hub name conjures up all sorts of things ! i disagree, certainly no pro about bike mechanics but it makes sence for all new components to wear in evenally together. I would think an old chain would definetly have adverse effects on a new cassette & chainrings. Personnally if i was buying good quality components i would spend the extra buck & keep the old chain for emegencies.
  16. hey nikki, after those replies would be interesting to hear how to maintain your "bottom bracket"

    MTB Sizing

    Mountain bike sizing chart (hardtail & full suspension)<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Rider Height Frame Size Suggested Feet and Inches Centimetres Inches Size 4' 10" - 5' 2" 148 - 158 13 - 14 XS 5' 2" - 5 '6" 158 - 168 15 - 16 S 5' '6" - 5' 10" 168 - 178 17 - 18 M 5' 10" - 6' 1" 178 - 185 19 - 20 L 6' 1" - 6' 4" 158 - 193 21 - 22 XL 6 '4" - 6' 6" 193 - 198 23 - 24 XXL hey freshie,found this somewhere on the web,they generally reckon your mountain bike should be 1 size smaller than your roadbike size,hope this table helps
  18. hey buckstopper, thanks for the reply,I'll keep u posted what the agents have to say
  19. just bought a new Felt F75, great ride except when in the biggest gear (big chainring, smallest cog) there is a hell of a vibration from the components which is transfered to the pedals. Tried many alternatives;different cassette, dura-ace ultra slim chain, derailer adjustments but to no avail! It's going back to the agents next week but would appreciate your thoughts / opinions / suggestions. cheers. Mapep hey HUBbers, the problem was the bb was not perfectly aligned, perhaps thread on crank bearing or crank itself, makes sense because as the chain moves further away from a true alignment ie: large chainring & smallest cog, the error would be at its worst, or something like that ! thanks for your commentsmapep2008-11-27 12:57:36
  20. hey latentree, thanks for the tip,was actually looking for some Xmas bike reads / prezzies for my cycling crazy boy (15 yrs old). will try that link but do you have any other suggestions for bike manuals , road & mtb ? cheers ,mapep
