  1. Was it on a Strava segment? Be careful he might flag your ride
  2. Also see this thread https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/115240-official-modderfontein-mtb-trail-announcement/ The difficulty varies from Green to Red
  3. Its on arden road http://goo.gl/maps/jJD0x R40 per bike Green is around 16km Yellow is around 25km Red is around 36km My favorite place to ride, have fun!
  4. The low maintenance is a plus, weight is a big negative
  5. I've found hills in my area by using Strava explore, Then filter the results on the climb bar at the top right to 4 and higher
  6. Thanks, I will be attempting this soon!
  7. How? After my HR gets over the 190, I normally start slowing down..
  8. Sorry to hear about that, Just going with what the doc told me, Which I guess will also differ from doc to doc..
  9. At times my polar HRM would measure a maximum of 230 bpm, Found that when I wet the strap where the probes are before putting it on, it would never record these spikes
  10. This is something that I was also curious about when I started training with an HRM, I asked the doctor about it, like if you could you weaken your heart if you go over the the maximum, etc, and he said your body will tire out long before you do any damage.
  11. +1 I found that if I used the Strava app and had a low signal when I finish the ride and it tries to upload it would fail and my ride would be gone, very irritating.. So I use Endomondo which IMHO uses much less battery power than strava and just upload my GPX files to Strava.
  12. Eish, not cool at all

How technical is the 40Km? I'm getting worried..
  15. I think Strava is a great way to have some fun and track your own progress.. At the same time see how you are doing against other riders, especially friends, but there is no way you can take it seriously when you have guys finishing segments at 100km/h I once found a segment in my area that had never been ridden, easiest KOM of my life, had a smile the whole way up the hill
  16. Tiredness shortly after a long long ride. 2 cups of coffee has show to reduce this feeling.
  17. Hey Spider, Just caught up reading this thread, I hope you all the best with your goals How is the training going so far? I also believe that a gym program can compliment your riding performance, I'm sure in 90% of sports that is the case, especially if you very serious about it.
  18. Read about 3 or 4 issues now, Just finished the latest one, good excuse to go into my LBS
  19. Just on the snake oil graph just above your post, I know the informationisbeautiful website and they get all of their information from the web, data gathering, (But we know you can't believe everything on the internet), but for each of their graphs they have a doc that shows all the source links of the information, So in this case AFAIK, they are interdependent from any product, Some of there other graphs are very interesting as well.
  20. This is a very interesting article "likely explanation is that free radicals aren’t as evil as advertised. (In fact, people need them to kill bacteria and eliminate new cancer cells.) And when people take large doses of antioxidants in the form of supplemental vitamins, the balance between free radical production and destruction might tip too much in one direction, causing an unnatural state where the immune system is less able to kill harmful invaders. Researchers call this the antioxidant paradox"
  21. Thanks for this, I know of someone that does 100km rides or long distance runs very often and he is constantly getting sick, So makes sense that his body is vulnerable after those sessions.
  22. Do you buy the low fat chocolate milk or the normal Super M? Those low fat ones seemed stupidly expensive
  23. So 3 hours on the trails on a sunny sunday, I should be ok
  24. Yeah, agree with the conspiracy theory.. I also use Vit-C if I'm not feeling so great, I do believe it does help boost immune system against all the viruses out there. Wondering if you do take a multivitamin and your body becomes dependent on it and doesn't produce those things naturally.
  25. So since I have started this pretty addictive thing called mtb, I've noticed some changes... Like if I have more than 2 beers, I can feel it (slight headache) the next morning, which never happened before.. My wife says its because I'm getting fitter, As I understand when you get fitter you are more prone to sickness, I'm generally not a very sick person, but I would like to know if anyone advises taking a multivitamin. The doctor says there is no real benefits, if you are eating relatively healthy. He did mention its advisable to take omega 3 if you have heart problems, and vitamin D and zinc for woman over 40 with menopause, otherwise its people getting rich off your money.. What does everyone feel? Is it worthwhile?
