  1. Hi. Looking for guys to join me 2or 3 times a week for rides around the Berea, ±40kms starting at 5.00am in Musgrave Rd, average speed in the upper 20's. Also ride out to Umhlanga on Fridays and Sundays. PM me if you are keen to get together.
  2. Too late. I've got dibs on the medium Aeon.

Weather outlook for Sunday is improving. Hold thumbs. Cool but no rain. Maritzburg will be around 6 degrees at the start!
  4. I am too scared to pull my 11 year old Fuji Sundance out of the garage. The bike is awesome and in pristine condition and just waiting to be ridden but I have become a serious roadie and by my standards getting super fit and am now worried I may be too fit to start off-road. Sounds crazy but I am just nervous that I will attack everything too hard and just hurt myself! As it is on the road when I see a climb, I can't help myself but pretend I am on Mont Ventoux and then it is flat out down the other side. The last thing I want is a broken collar bone just before one of the big road races. What to do?
  5. Thinking of getting one of these on clear-out from ASG. Anyone have one? What are they like? Read a review that the padding takes forever to dry. Also, have a smallish head so keen to get a compact fitting helmet. Don't want to look like a mushroom!
  6. I kn ow what you mean. I went into the one at Melrose Arch. Exact same story there. Left empty handed. If you want my business, you have to work for it!
  7. No. 1 for me too. Aiming for 3.30 - 3.45. Been putting in the mileage so I deserve it.
  8. Okay, Andyr249 actually replied with a serious answer!
  9. I must say that ASG are awesome when it comes to standing by their products. I had a few issues (no fault of their's) and they did not blink to honour their warranty. Well done ASG. Now just saving up for a Windmax.
  10. Forgot what day it was. Thanks V12 for putting it perspective!
  11. Okay, Any help appreciated. Woke up too early for this morning's ride and ended up not getting my foot out the cleat quick enough at the first intersection! (Come on, I am sure we've all done it!) Anyway managed to successfully get my body to take the hit and save the bike other than a bit of road rash on the saddle. Anyone know what to use to make it look nice again?
  12. Carbon if you've got the bucks or find a deal on The Hub. Just make sure the components are decent. Shimano 105 or equivalent or better. PS. Whatever you get you will upgrade before you can say Ultegra.
  13. Sorry Butch. I think you have lost the plot here. This event is not run by CSA, it is run by the Club Cuppachino Trust who raise money to take cycling to those less fortunate. CSA makes everyone who rides any event under their banner have a CSA licence and that is where they get their money from. Of course, now they are trying to bully PPA to get their hands on The Argus money. But that is a whole other story! I am quite happy that I donated my share by riding this tour. Great to ride around Durban with full road closure.
  14. Try contact Carlo Brand at Merida SA (Cytek Cycle Distributors
  15. Coincidence? CSA = Cycling SA and Cricket SA. Two peas in a pod!
  16. The main one along the beachfront from uShaka to the Umgeni Bird Park is awesome. However the linkfrom the Moses Mabhida Stadium precinct to Florida Road and Mitchell Park is an F-up. All they have done is widen the pavement so now you have to dodge pedestrians and even worse, they did not bother to move the lampposts, so if you do have to swerve to avoid a pedestrian, you will just wipe out into one of the poles or have to ramp off the pavement into oncoming traffic! "According to Carlos Esteves, deputy head of road systems management about R40m has been spent on the lanes. He’s also assured motorists that the new lanes will not cause any inconvenience." Damn sure they won't be inconienced! All the lanes are on the pavements! ****! After trying to ride the route, I have decided it is actually safer to ride on the road!

I'm in. I hope 7 months' training will have me better prepared that the 6 weeks I had this year!
  18. In Durban we have had to start a bit earlier. Engen Cycle Challenge next week and AmaShova on 13 October. I managed to do 1200kms in the off season so should be okay. All outdoors too. Gotta love Durban weather.
  19. Same thing happened to me during The Argus this year after Chappies. Couldn't even pedal down into Hout Bay. Problem was not enough liquids, nothing else. Simple rule of 1 bottle per hour at least. Once I had re-hydrated, I was fine.
  20. Now here's a thing. I have a Thule suspension rack. Cost about R1600. Never had a problem. My mate bought that new REALLY expensive rack from Thule (the folding one that looks really cool for R9000) and all he wants to do is swap with me because mine is so quick and easy to use!

I'm amp'ed for No. 2. Only decided to do my first one this year on 24 January after a very brave dare (If I can get an entry, I'll doit!). Little did I know the guy making the dare had had a cancellation that morning! Didn't even have a bike. Ground it out for 6 weeks and managed a 4.20 including a stop for a puncture (of course). This year, and 3 bike upgrades later, I have trained right through winter (brrrr) and aiming for a 3.45 at least.
  22. The bidorbuy stuff is the same stuff that Darryl gets but at least you have a local contact and you only pay when it gets to SA>
  23. I am also keen to order the one in my profile pic.
  24. Try this guy. Darryl Koekemoer <darrylks@gmail.com> He gets it from China. I am awaiting delivery of the attached.
