  1. You see my problem with the trisuit ia that I am not broad in the shoulders, my broadness is to be found a bit more south! In the meantime I looked at the First Ascent trisuit because my First Ascent Cycling short is a XXL and comfy. So I will still look like a sausage but at least I will be comfortable. I will try the advice in respect of climbing. Thanks Now let me go and try to get into my wetsuit!
  2. Hi Guys I am doing the Bela Bela 5150 as my first triathlon and just want some advice. Last year when I did the 94.7 I weighed 128kgs and I am now about 112 and still planning to lose more, but won't lose that much in the next two weeks. You can imagine that hills are a nightmare. during my last two bike workouts I stood up during the hills and slowed thr cadence way down and the hills just seemed easier. Which is better on hills...standing or sitting? Another question...I received my trisuit and there is simply no way I am wearing that on the day. Do you guys know of any Tri Suits that are available in bigger sizes. The one I got is a FTech 3XL which according to the website is the largest size they have. What other options do I have for Race Day apart from a trisuit? Thanks
  3. Hi Guys Just a question regarding the initial period when starting out. I've noticed that when starting out you are sluggish and really battle to workout, whether its cycling swimming or running. I've heard that this gets better after a while. My question is, if you work through this phase, albeit at a slower pace, will it influence your fitness levels? My logic says it won't because although the pace is slower, your heart rate is still at the same levels or higher. What do you guys think?
  4. Is there any guys from Midstream here...either MTB or road?
  5. I have one. Bought it CycleLab in December and only used it three times. I willing to part with it.
  6. Then I won't even mention that I have a secteur!
  7. So here's the thing....I've entered the Bela Bela 5150, Tri Rock and 70.3 in January. In between I'm doing the 94.7. I've now started the exercise of searching for a bike. I'm not interested in competing or fast times....my aim is to complete the events I've entered. As a result of having to buy a wetsuit' Trisuit and the like I've decided to limit myself to about R8000. For this price your looking at the Silverback Strela 3, Trek 1.2 (both with Sora Groupsets), the Specialized Secteur (with 2300 Groupset) and Merida Scultura 901 (with the newer 2400 Groupset). I think all of these would serve my purposes taking into account my goals. From the mentioned bikes I like the looks of the Specialized the most. Now the question is how far should looks fo in deciding which bike to buy?
  8. Thanks for your reply Sniffie. The problem is that during the first few weeks I feel weak on any workout even if only 30 minutes.
  9. Hi Guys Need some advice again. I posted about two weeks ago about training and LCHF and stated that a higher effort was needed in training compared to when training on carbs, taking into account that my body is clearly not adapted yet. However, apart from the training I have to say that I feel a lot better when not eating carbs compared to when I do eat carbs, so I want to continue on this way, but cannot afford to suffer in training taking into account that Bela Bela is in two months time and Tri-Rock in just over three months. I have read that guys only take carbs when training or racing. My workout at this stage is a minimum of 45 minutes to about 1.5 hours in the week and longer over the weekends. What I want to know is how to time the intake of carbs and what type to take. I still have a tub of 32 GI at home, will this be OK to take and when should you taker it? Thanks
  10. Hi Guys Been fairly strict LCHF from Monday last week. I did my first workout since then this afternoon. What I noticed is that whereas normally I set the treadmills speed setting to 7.5 and keep my heart rate below 140 (avg of 138 with a peak of about 141) for about 45min, today after 10 - 15 minutes at 7.5 my HR would hit 155. Would this be due to the fact that one lacks energy when starting LCHF and would this then translate to a slower run on the open road. After the run I also felt more tired than usual and light headed. Should I take more carbs when training or is this just part of the normal adaptation process and should I just hang in there for a few weeks? Thanks
  11. Da Vinci I think the portion size is 55g of which 25g is protein, with the 9.8g carbs and 3g dietary fibre.
  12. Hi Guys Another question regarding LCHF. I see USN Diet Fuel Ultralean have 9.8g carbs per serving with 3g dietary fibre and 1.5g novel fibre whatever that may be. Lets say this brings the net carbs to 6.8g per serving. Would this be a convenient option as a meal when at work during the day, say one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Thanks
  13. Hi Guys I've been toying with the whole LCHF thing since the end of last year and have lost about 14kgs from about the end of November 2013. I want to eat this way full time because I lose weight and actually feel better with this way of eating. Thing is I am thinking of doing the 5150 Bela Bela during August, Tri Rock in October and 11Global in November with the 70.3 in January. How do you approach training while eating low carb? Do I only take in carbs when doing workouts longer than 2 hours and high intensity workouts. If so, what carbs should one take. How long does it take for ones body to become adapted to this way of eating? How long does it take to feel better during training after starting LCHF. Hope you can help!
  14. I remember there was a post a while back where a guy from PE apparently sold bikes and he was harrased endlessy by the hubbers wanting to buy *BIKES*. Got a mail today from a site called camerafricam.wozaonline.co.za. Doesn't it remind you guys of our PE friend's site. Only difference is that he now sells bikes, cameras and electronics. Maybe bike sales are down a bit?
  15. After reading all of the above, me thinks I am gonna make walkie up the first hill!!!!
  16. Only doing the 55km . Is this part as tough as the remaining 44kms (I think the Action Ford Classic was on this 44km part) be that as it may It was a sufferfest for me from about 15km in. How much more difficult than the Action Ford Classic?
  17. Hi Guys I have a question for the scientific minded folk amongst us. I currently weigh in at a fairly lightweight 122kg's. You can imagine climbs to be a nightmare. In the estate I ride in I average about 20km/h. On the open road I think it would be more, but for purposes of the question lets work at an average of 20km/h. Now lets say I lose the extra pounds and go down to about 90kg's, what would the average speed (or speed in general) increase with accepting that the power output stays the same. Answers please...for interest sake....and maybe a bit of motivation. Cheers
  18. Ok decided on the Jamis. It is a good looking bike and seems to have decent specs for the price. It seems that it has: Ritchey Bar and stem as well as seatpost, Mavic Wheels Tiagra rear derailleur, Sora FD Sora shifters, 9 speed. All for the price of R4800.
  19. Hi Guys I have a newbie question.... I did the 94.7 on Sunday and through the following year I want to do all the big events like the Amashova and the Argus. In order to keep myself motivated in between races and to train I want to do other races as well. The question is, how do you know which races are suitable for beginners or can you enter for any race? Thanks
  20. Hi Guys I want to buy a new road bike and my budget is about 6000. I am currently looking at either the Trek 1.1 or the Jamis Venture Comp. The Trek is R6000 and the Jamis R4800. The Trek is a 8 speed and the Jamis 9 speed, both with Shimano parts (2300 vs Sora). Which one would you pick?
  21. I have entered and received the mail that the race has been postponed to 12 January 2014.
  22. 12/25 Casette
  23. Hi Guys I stated in an earlier thread I struggled with my gearing on the hills at the 94.7, although it could be, in part, due to my burly frame. My bike currently has a 52/42 crank and I want to know whether that should be changed to a 50/34 compact crank or a 50/39/30 triple. Which of the aforesaid would be the cheapest taking all the changes into account and what difference would the crank make on hills. Thanks
  24. Sorry walk
