  1. I've never done it. Just heard it was a pretty "balls to the wall" type of ride & some the guys riding it are very strong indeed. Give it a go - apparently they regroup at the top of climbs when the crazy dudes put the hammer down. Then tell us how it was
  2. Have a look at this - there are a number he can go & have a look at... http://www.bicycling.co.za/buyersguide/listing/ He's sure to have fun spending that kind of money lucky chap!
  3. I'm happy to read all the positive comments about those XT's as I just bought a new set & stuck them on my Spez for The Epic... They look nice too!
  4. Do you not have a car? Half your posts are asking for lifts' date=' and the other half moaning about work. [/quote'] Got to love that Mrs. C.... this guy must he the unluckiest dude in the cycling world - he's continually offered lifts to races / rides then doesn't show because of work. Has the big C recovered from his win yesterday? I expected him to be at the 3 passes this morning just to rub it in
  5. I entered late (on the morning) because my MTB broke on Friday night meaning plans for a weekend of epic prep was left to the road bike. Decided to ride the 99er with the wife but it cost me the sweet sum of R280 for the late entry!!! That's steeper then vissershoek! But it was a very well organised race, lots of marshals, great start/finish venue and the hill-top finish ensured no mass sprint & thus no finish line carnage. I give it 8/10
  6. This is a little odd to be honest - the timing mats register the chip as it goes over it. It has no idea that you might be a "F" seed but decide to start in "T", it just talks to the computer via the mat. I suggest you advise Race tec that you feel there's a problem with your start time. Send them your polar/garmin data if you have it but don't hold your breath - they are pretty much bound to accept what the timing mats & subsequent data that is captured tells them. But give it a go. You never know, they might find a glitch happened. Good luck. But look on the bright side, when you start with those slow-coaches in "L" at the Argus & you should be in "C" , you'll have a great opportunity to win your group!
  7. Apologies if this has been posted before but I think it's very funny & worth brightening up your day if you haven't seen it! ENJOY!!
  8. HEY BMC FAN - why no result for you @ RaceTech? I see Justin did well coming in 10th but what happened to you my man?
  9. Hey Gravity - it's not such a bad road really because you can cycle in the "yellow line" lane & stay pretty much out of harm's way. The nightmare at present however are the long stretches with road works & that makes it a bit more dangerous than normal. I also turn off the R27 & ride through the West Coast National Park when I get there just after Yzerfontain & that part is really pleasant even tho I did have a relatively close encounter with an enormous Cape Cobra yesterday Makes the ride quite interesting! Cheers
  10. moral therefore let your tubes down before you put the bike in the car...
  11. yeah, it was hot & windy as hell but full sun so guess in the car the heat was pretty intense. Guess that's a definite possibilty windblown. Thanks.
  12. I rode today from Cape Town to Langebaan (yes, the wind WAS my friend today ) But then after the ride, I put the bike in the car, had a beer (or 3) at pearly's and then when I got to the car, noticed that my front bike tyre was completely down. On inspection at home, it was clear that the tyre had ripped, but there was the most huge hole in the tube...is it possible I rode with this??? Absolutely bizarre IMHO...
  13. Clincher = what the majority of people use. You have to use tubes with them, easier to fit using tyre levers & strong thumbs. Tubbies = an "all-in" tyre with a built-in tube & has to be glued to the rim. usually used by the more racing-minded chaps often on deep section rims. 14. oops... It's off the R27 from Cape Town between Table view & Melkossrand. Travelling away from Cape Town go past Bayside and the turn to Parklands and at the next set of robots, turn right off the R27 where the "West Coast Village" is situated (sign-posted Sunningdale) go straight & over the traffic circle & the shop is in the complex on the left (thyere's a large Builders Warehouse there).
  15. The nice gents from Cycles Direct held a bit of an opening do last night with a few beers & snacks on offer. The shop is great, lots of stock, huge workshop, fitting room, couch & TV with soon to be delivered coffee machine... If you live in the area please support them, it's nice to see someone taking a risk to offer us cyclists a better service in the economic downturn. Good luck chaps. Cheers!
  16. WAFU !!!! Did you go there anyway? I know you were really looking forward to this & it's a glorious day for it. I wanted to see the pics & hear the report???
  17. Even if you don't speak italian you'll understand the headline. He reckons he will retire if the second analysis proves positive too...what a to55er. http://www.gazzetta.it/ These guys just continue to disappoint us....
