  1. You might find it's something as ultra-simple as dirt in the cable guides under the BB and a good wash / lube will have it running smoothly. If it were cable slack you'd be able to see that immediately. Taking off the cables/re-routing them and playing with your derailleur settings is great if you know what you are doing. Otherwise, take it to your LBS, a mechanic there could probably get it right in minutes and not charge you the earth.
  2. Depends where you are. Cycles Direct in Table View Cape Town sell them 021 554 2128 - ask for Gary or Michael. Nice pedals speedplay, light, strong and have good clearance. It's all down to personal taste tho. I rode shimanos before them but wouldnt go back now...
  3. Stop moaning you pussies. Jeez. It's a 2 week delay. Read the rules, they can change the competition T's & C's any time they feel like it! Enjoy the suspense a little more COMPETITION TERMS
  4. If you want to consider ratios for training times, you could estimate your race finish time(s) and apply your weekly training ratios/hours accordingly so, let's say you're doing full IM: 1h30min swim / 5h30m bike / 4h30min run = 11h30m 13% : 48% : 39% = 100% 2hr swim / 6hr bike / 5hr run = 13hrs 15% : 46% : 38% = 100% Of course, it also depends on how strong/natural you are at each discipline. I swim like a brick so tried to put a bit more emphasis into swimming but just ended up becoming really good at swimming with a crap style rather than getting a good stroke coach and spending less but quality time in the water... Good luck with your goals.
  5. I almost bid at R45k but as I won the Pina auction I thought it was unfair. Oh and I've no money left, the wife would have left me and I'd have been sleeping on the streets... The guy or girl has got a huge bargain there...
  6. Just a warning to those who may be tempted by these very tempting offers. You will be scammed. Don't do it. TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE
  7. Try these. They're wicked! THE_SUFFERFEST
  8. Good Advice we could all use. Cycling Safety
  9. Spot on Mr. Fish - I downloaded the sufferfest. 1.7gig later (and a slightly p!ssed off IT manager) I had saved it to my ipad as well as burned to a DVD & I now have 60 minutes of great music & cycling vids to watch whilst I cane my ass.... Well worth the R70!
  10. If you're in cape town try cycles direct 021 554 2128
  11. If posted before my apologies. if not - WTF is this??? QUOTE We recently ran a news item that discussed how the revolutionary new Stringbike replaces the traditional chain with a driving rope made of a special high density polyethylene (HDPE) product, known under its commercial name, Dyneema. Here is a demonstration of that bike in action. UNQUOTE Click on the link to see the video animation...
  12. A 28??? And you reckon I'm coming out of the closet....mmwaaaaa A compact with a real man's cassette is an excellent choice. No self respecting man would be seen dead with a 28...
  13. My wife came in the garage the other day whilst I was cleaning my bike. She said "I wish you'd give me as much attention as you give that damn bike" I looked up at her, smiled sweetly & said "but darling, I don't ride you as often..." At least we have a big couch.
  14. When the beef has been eaten and the boys - who reckon compacts are for girls - learn to read, they might find the following facts of interest & soon be on their way to the LBS...
  15. Just as we were getting to the cobblestones admin deletes the most entertaining post we've seen in months... Oh well, back to work B)
  16. Huuh??? If you speed down the road and get caught you can't recover the fine you pay to the government from anyone else. In this scenario, the bike shops could pay upto 10% of their annual turnover - the majority can't afford that & will just increase sales prices to the public to recover the fine money. The government gets the fine money and the consumers (us) get screwed twice. Like i said, it's bullsh1t.
  17. I couldn't agree more. All the shops will now pay a huge fine & will have to recover it from their new sales. It's like coming home to find your wife getting screwed by your neighbour then he beats you up before leaving with a double wide grin on his face. Utter bullsh1t.
  18. In the UK... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/2940611/Councils-bicycle-lane-wider-than-car-lane.html
  19. Bike lane wider than car lane!! Would certainly get those motor heads revved up the wrong way
  20. Here are a few more pics - results will be up here tomorrow. http://guerilla.co.za/dirtopia/the-table-view-triple The course apparently isn't a major challenge for th serious DH guys but it was still fun to watch with my son - took him along to see if he might be interested in giving it a crack when he's a bit older. I'm too old for it!!
