  1. OK, that might not work as I see the Fast One is on the 25th. maybe the weekend before that as it is wolfies birthday as well on the 23rd!!
  2. sorry to do this to you Holy, but I gathered from the lack of response this ride was not going to happen and as mentioned, it is my son's 7th birthday and have promised to take him to the zoo. With the weather & especially the rain being so unpredictable, I would like to get there before they open so we can get thru as much before the rain comes. Hope you understand and look forward to one in January. What date is the fast one? My birthday is on the 24th which is a Saturday (I know you work Saturdays but can have it on the 25th) and maybe we can have a ride out Rietvlei way and have a braai at my house afterwards.
  3. I think the Whole of South Africa is the best!! we just need to behave responsibly and earn the respect of our motorised counterparts!!!
  4. I don't think it will happen with such a small group. Will pick it up again in the new year. Thanks Holy!!
  5. What about Blaauberg & Melkbos!! One of these days it will be one area!!!
  6. Yep, all those important factors to keep the economy turning. I really think these large developers should contribute towards these infrastuctures. after all, they benefit from the sales. Ok, I better run before I get donnerd!!
  7. You obviously have not driven in JHB lately; I've also been travelling to CT from Stellenbosch quite a bit this week' date=' and while the traffic was a bit slow on the N2, at least it was mostly moving; there was a congestion close to the M3 junction, but that's only like 1 km of frustration? My last trip to JHB (that was in August) made me realise that we have no real conception of rush hour traffic down here in the Cape I quite honestly don't know how people can do that every day! [/quote'] Read somewhere ( I tried to find it, but can't) that Gauteng has grown from 4.5 Million to over 10.5 Million people in 5 years!! How correct this information is I am not sure, but judging from the traffic & land development, I can believe it. What's sad is that with all the new housing going up at an enormous pace, Churches and most importantly Police Stations, Schools & Varsties and not growing to handle this new demand!!
  8. Not sure the facts of this' date=' but I believe it wont be open until June/July!! [/quote'] Then they better start flattening Ou Kaapse weg Here's something to get you started. Just don't slow down the traffic!!!
  9. Not sure the facts of this, but I believe it wont be open until June/July!!
  10. it's all the Vaallie's that moved there starring at the mountain instead of driving!!!
  11. You mean B!tch Slap him , right!!
  12. Schwalbe Rocket Rons!!! They weigh 410g for the 2,10 and 445g for the 2.25
  13. There are normally two groups of MTB's in the South. The first group meets at Panorama Shopping Centre and the second at Sharondale Nursery. I think the group you refering to is the Panorama group and most are from Southern Cycling Club. They leave at 7am
  14. DT, I have made contact with the NMMM and the Eastern Cape Provincial Roads departments and they have indicated that they will help with route surveying & erection of these signs. What is needed is a detailed map of the EP Herald Tour (as a start). This map should indicate road names etc. and should be detailed with route names/numbers and possibly distance markers. Once you have this map, I will give you the contact person to deliver it to to have it surveyed. Secondly, a sign in Gauteng costs about R600 each. I am sure that once the number of signs are established, the signs could be purchased via the NMMM and or EC Provincyial Roads Department. The most important is fund raising. Brandon Els has indicated that he could help with these efforts (and I am sure he will donate as well), so check with him. Suggestion: with the upcoming PE Hub Ride hold a braai and sell Wors Rolls, beers & cool drinks. Ask the various clubs to hold their own fundraisers and the funds can be pooled. The Marine Drive route will definitely benefit all the PE cyclists as it is the most popular. Go to all the bike shops and ask them to donate and offer safety equipment for sale with a % going to this fund. lastly, Good Luck!! I have had many people become despondent as asking for money is never easy!! Captain Slow2008-12-03 04:06:14
  15. gilmour, don't feel lonely. As you are aware, I have been collecting funds to have the W309 sign erected on all the popular training routes across South Africa. With the help from a few individuals in my Cycling Club and a few here on the Hub, I have managed to erect over 150 signs in Gauteng. This is nowhere near what I have hoped to achieve. This year the only sponsorship & donations came from Team Edenglen. It seems we as cyclists are the first to complain but the minute the cycling organisations need our valued input & support, we find ourselves too busy to bother. This is rather a sad state of affairs and I pray that next year cyclists will become more involved with regards to their safety. Is an American president once said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what YOU can do for your country". and so I say, 'Ask not what Sign-Up can do for you, but what YOU can do to assist Sign-Up"!! and another one "Road Safety begins with You!!
