  1. For sure, very happy I don't have to ride against her!!
  2. Wish I could post Marissa vd Merwe's power profile on the hub... I am sure it will make a couple of people choke on their lunch. We absolutely have the talent in SA with people like Marissa and Cherise. The least the rest of us can do is to support them and to remember that they are riding against the best in the world. Pretty much like sending our local pro's to ride against all the Pro tour teams. Believe me, racing against those chicks is daunting enough - the last thing you want to read or hear about is ANOTHER negative comment about women's cycling and people attacking you personally without ever meeting you. Go kick some ass girls!!!
  3. Riding overseas is a completely different ball game to riding locally. I have seen most of the girls ride overseas and it is a real shame that Robyn and Lynette were not selected, as I believed they would have contributed to good results for the team. It's sad that Ronel is ending her career like this. She still had a couple of good year's ahead and she worked very hard on her cycling this year. If selected under the circumstances, it will put a lot of pressure on her to perform, which also is not fair. Marissa is a great selection for the team - she has the form, the experience and the talent and guts to get a good result. Good luck to you guys!
  4. I would like to know why Robyn de Groot and Lynette Burger are not in the team for Worlds? Both gave up their time to ride for the national team in China when a lot of the big guns preferred to stay at home and ride at nationals. They are not afraid to do some racing and are actually capable of racing in the front of the bunch. In my opinion they should both have been on the squad along with Marissa and Yolandi.
  5. Weet nie hoe mens so iets kan doen nie... Hier is 'n foto van my baby!
  6. It's a shame because it is one of the best on the calendar!
  7. PRESS RELEASE<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> TOUR de LESOTHO It is with regret that the Tour de Lesotho Organising Committee is forced to announce the cancellation of the 2007 edition of the event. The event organisers found it difficult to secure sponsorship for the 8th edition of Africa?s Toughest Cycle Challenge and had no other option but to cancel. Effort will be made to reschedule the event on a later date. PREPARED BY; A.BESTER e-mail:cycle@sunint.co.za tel:09266 22325300 fax:09266 22325300
  8. Pleasure Nellie! Unfortunately I'm also 'vertically challenged' (stopped growing at 13??)
  9. Yes, it's a stock standard Fuji, 49cm. Proline took mine back when I left the team, so they should have one handy in her size. Last time she was perfectly fine after her run-in with the taxi. My husband spoke to her manager, Alex Cooper this morning and it doesn't sound serious at all. At least she is ok! Think it was an over-enthusiastic reporter trying to make the story a little more interesting
  10. After spending a good couple of hours in the sun at the prize giving (I was waiting for the draw for the VW Golf - was convinced I was gonna drive it back to Pretoria) I am so sun burned the 'come naked' doesn't sound too bad at all!
  11. Hey Fatty.. it's ok, I still got my bubbly and flowers, so they couldn't have been too upset. As I didn't have any backup there and had to ride the 5km back to the hotel, I had to choose between the booze and the flowers... needless to say, a friendly lady got the flowers! Riding to the hotel with my bicycle, balancing a 1.5 litre bottle of bubbly on the handlebars, 9:30 on a Sunday morning - I got LOADS of comments as you can imagine!!
  12. I have used it for almost a year now and I won't easily go back to normal rings. Don't know how it works but it makes you faster, for sure!
  13. Hey shame...wonder of haar mamma weet!!
  14. We wish Elsa and Louise a speedy recovery. I agree it happens too often.. Lynette Burger also got knocked off her bike early last week by a reckless driver
  15. Really didn't think of it as STEALING Steve. I was just a bit lazy to download the photos our manager took at prize giving and I probably should have known better.. won't happen again
  16. Hi sorry Cruxie.. I'm at fault. They called me yesterday for pics and I send a couple to supercycling. They picked the best one - the one you took!! Promise you'll get some credit next time...just don't stop taking awesome pics
  18. Ja!!
  19. T-Bag, dis 'n great kopie teen die prys. Myne 2 weke gelede gekry en hy ry soos 'n droom. Darren Lill ry ook die afgelope ruk 1 en dit lyk nie asof die fiets hom terughou nie!!
  20. Is it better to use the powertap on the rear or the front hub? Will Easton Ascent II wheel (18 spokes in front, 24 spokes rear) be able take the powertap? I know not all wheels are compatible. It makes sense to also use it for racing! Thanks for the help
  21. Hi, I am thinking of buying a Powertap, but hear that there is a new wireless one coming out soon. To the current Powertap users out there.. do you think it is worth waiting for the wireless one if you only want to use it for training?? Have you found the Powertap useful for training? If you remove the Powertap wheel before races, does the rest of the system add significant weight to the bicycle?
  22. Zipps... it's sure is a pretty bike with any wheels!!
  23. Haven't got the faintest idea of time.. was just glad to be alive! I just couldn't face another 'graspol'. Had to go for drug testing afterwards and it really took a while as I was a bit dehydrated!! Just my luck to be tested twice in a week - think they might find seriously high lactic acid levels
  24. Ja sjoe - I did it and would highly recommend a kidney belt before attempting it! That prize money was the hardest earned pocket money ever Maybe I was just a little tired from the day before, but found it very tough because it was so bumpy.
  25. Hi all, a bit of news from our tour so far... 10 August Landed on Frankfurt airport and had lunch in Kohl with Marcel Wust and his family. For a famous x-pro he was surprisingly down to earth and even helped us build our bikes after the trip. Marcel has a couple of interesting records next to his name. He is one of the only riders to have ever won a race on every continent in the world, but is even more famous for being only one of two riders in the history of cycling to have won a stage in the Tour de France in a sprint while wearing the Polka dot jersey! He now does commentary for German national television at big races as he is fluent in 5 languages 11 August Today we woke up and went for a ride to loosen the legs. Our whole team almost got a 90 EURO fine each for jumping a red light riding through the streets of Bochum. Luckily we looked lost enough and the traffic cops helped us look on the map for the circuit we would be riding the next day. After half an hour?s riding it starting raining and we decided to stop at a local coffee shop and wait for the rain to stop. In the end the rest of the ride only took place a good 3 hours and a couple of Cappuccino?s later! We ended up doing a 2 and a half hour ride on the most beautiful farm roads, lined with trees and green pastures? wow the life of a professional bike rider is truly tough, but someone?s gotta do it!! 12 August Our first race! We thought our first two races would be smallish races in a local village, but I guess if a race has it?s own website it must be big! Today?s race was the warm-up event for the main race, Giro Sparkassen in Bochum. The race is sponsored by a local German bank and is a circuit race, 15 laps of 3.5km each. I was very surprised to race with the no. 1 race number as the current World champion and her team also lined up at the start! Most of the race was in the rain and it actually made the race a bit easier as the girls didn?t take the corners absolutely flat out. Yolandi joined us today for the first time after racing for Team Fat Birds (English team) for the past couple of months. Lynette really impressed me in her first race sticking to the front for most of the race. All of us finished safely in the bunch, but no one taking chances on the dangerous last lap especially in the rain. 13 August (Giro Sparkassen ? Bochum, Germany) Today?s circuit was 7 laps of 14km each. I must say it looked easier than it was judging from the route profile ? with a couple of nasty climbs. Today the rain didn?t save us from a hard pace being set from the beginning and the girls started with a bang. Still enjoyed the race more than I thought I would. In the end we all finished between 40th and around 80th position in the bunch. From the next tour, Trophee d?Or the real racing will start! We stayed to watch the men?s race and it was very exciting to see Robbie McEwen, Jens Voigt and Pettachi in action. Konica Minolta also had a couple of riders there and enjoyed our enthusiastic encouragement on every lap! It is really great to see just how popular cycling is in Europe, with the whole family enjoying a day at the races 14 August Today we mostly travelled from Bochum to central France. We had a nice stop over to eat lunch in Paris and walked around in the shops on the Champs Elysees. I look forward to returning to Paris in a couple of weeks, as we have a criterium series on our racing schedule. We have a couple of days off before our next tour, Trophee d?Or Feminine starts in St Armand Montrond on Saturday. The off days will mostly consist of sleeping in and going for a training ride in the area. We also have the opportunity to check out most of the routes we will be doing during the tour, which is nice. 16 August Today we did a 4hour+ ride with some race efforts inbetween. Its on the most gorgeous roads and I thought to myself just how fortunately we are to be a part of such a great sport... Off to lunch now.... will write again when I get to an internet cafe Ciao 4 now
