  1. My Gios Professional completed and on the road for the first outing.
  2. Nice Evan those FIR wheels are stunning
  3. Just got a NOS one from Peter at Road Cycles in Silverton Seloc for 200 bucks for a build. He may have more quote name="Audible Anarchy" post="3113142" timestamp="1492802734"] Picked this up earlier this week from GT Fred and decided to build up as single speed... Sandblasted / Powder coated Late 70's Le Jeune built up with a mix of mostly newer style bits I had lying around. Managed to find an old Shimano Sante Crankset (also late 70's - sat between Shimano 600 and Dura ace i believe) and a matching saddle from the good folks at the cycle hub in Rietvlei. All i need is a 26.4 mm seatpost and so far no suppliers / bike stores have been able to Please fellow hubbers can anyone help me out / have a scratch around their garage? I need to get this bad boy out on the road! IMG_1711.JPG IMG_1710.JPG IMG_1648.JPG IMG_1646.JPG IMG_1647.JPG IMG_1659.JPG IMG_1676.JPG IMG_1695.JPG IMG_1686.JPG
  4. Interesting one for you on these; you can easily convert to 700c on these frames and create a wonderful gravel grinder. My MB5 is my favourite bike to ride
  5. Anyone got anymore information on the Paul Buhre from the 40s or 50's. Wear it from time to time great timekeeper. Sort of fits in with my collection of 50's bikes and a car.
  6. He he thanks Eddy wondered what his nom de plume was!
  7. Hubbers on the ride: Eddy Sarge Broncoza Gustav
  8. Ladysmith to Escourt to Winterton and back - Four intrepid adventurers braved the Battlefields in Northern Natal almost to the day of some of the great battles of 1899. Tar, Gravel, Heat and big climbs totalled 210kms with 2800m of climbing
  9. Lol not sure on that eddy that Spaz went up the hill like a homesick mountain goat! But 26 is king down hill. Great ride
  10. Build that frame up - best all purpose bike you will ever ride. From 94.7 to the Spruit you can ride it all! Mine dressed in old school XT with a Richey road crank and continental cyclocross race tubeless does it all in its stride
  11. Cy Turners reasoning is to distribute braking force in a more linear manner. Cant comment on efficacy since I am on V's but from all reports he knows his stuff as an engineer
  12. Here is a pic of my Rat! Best general purpose bike I have.
  13. Eish I think roller blades best left to younger bones but interesting concept. No one seems to like my idea of looking like a circus bear on a small bike?
  14. I am finding that I am not training during the week when I am away from home. Too much hassle to take a bike on racks where I travel. I am considering buying a folding bike to train on. Is this a stupid idea? Will I get benefit or are they really only good for going from Gautrain to the office?
  15. Its a nice race aside from the road condition. Very rough and potholed in places last year which wasnt nice. Didnt find the climbs anywhere as nasty as Amashova or 94.7. Pretty much rolling hills if I remember. First climb is 200m from the start which is a bit rude so warm up before hand. Good luck!
  16. Nice Tractor! Bit too clean for the Broadacres swamp right now but look forward to seeing you out there!
  17. Ok point taken by the last two posts, chain dont stretch. Thanks also for the link to Sheldon Brown's article. Was wondering how to measure wear without Park Tool. Will check wear tomorrow.
  18. Ok stupid question but how do I get more tension into the chainline? Seems no adjustment on the tensioner, do I remove a link?
  19. Hi all hoping someone out there has an idea on this problem; running a Surly front chainring 32 tooth and a Surly back 16 tooth. Tensioned by an On One. Chain is a KMC BMX chain. Chain line is straight Ok so here is the problem, rig has probably 1000kms on it, started to make a loud clicking sound when under pressure. At first thought it was BB, checked this no play and also noise comes and goes. Used to only be on climbs, now even if you put in a sprint on the flat. No noise when spin drivetrain without tension.... Help? Any ideas? Chain worn? Thanks Rob
  20. Been on a 26er with 32:16 for a year now. Find can pretty much handle most and actually prefer riding SS. Sort of a no nonsense ride. Either you ride it or run it. No other choice. Recent convert to 29er geared. BUT now I want a 29er SS rigid front end... its addictive

    Amashova 2013

What are you on 26 or 29? Trying to decide to ride my 26 and then which gear to go with. Currently ride 32:18 in on the hills in the berg without too much fuss, considering to go down to 16 at the back but never climbed Fox on SS before so any suggestions. Starting F batch

    Amashova 2013

Are you considering doing it on an SS?
  23. That might work Flippa, more worried about Fox Hill and those few little bumps before Drummond. Pretty much downhill from Botha's Hill
  24. Thinking of doing amaShova on a 26er SS. anyone else out there doing it on an SS? Any suggestions on ratios from the seasoned ones?
  25. Haven't tried back or front seat but recommend a trailer to anyone. I had a Croozer 535 which I recently sold to another Hubber. Used it for 3 yrs with my twin girls from about 9 months. Great on road and can do good gravel with softer tyres
