  1. in no physical rush, just the emotional one to get out there you know. as for the bargains at LBS's i haven't come across those yet in my area except when talking about the higher end class, all above R15K
  2. Hi Dean so you suggest i should rather be looking at something like this than the Scott or silverback then, why do you say so if i may ask? just need to learn thew reasoning behind these decisions so i can make then for myself in the future.
  3. My budget at the moment is R1000.00 My goals for the time that i will be saving will be to ride at rietvlei with my sons, ride at the dam when we go fishing as there is always plenty of dirt road and paths around, maybe even do the walkerville race next year April i think just to get out there and see what its about and have a base to compare to for when i upgrade. Yes when i upgrade i would like to have saved round 5-7K for something better and more suited for heavy races and stage races etc.
  4. o ok, thanks for all the advice guys, i really appreciate it.
  5. if i wanted to go and say do a race then you would suggest the silvewrback?
  6. So in your opinion, the Silverback is a better buy than the Scott? What is the reasoning behind this so i also know what to look out for in the future?
  7. nice deal, i always seem to miss those types of specials or they bike is never my size
  8. ok mso this bike is a no go, what about this Scott Reflex 50, selling price R1000. i no its scratched badly and needs a service, probably new brake cables too, but shocks seem fine, haven't tested the gearing yet though, whats the feeling about this bike?
  9. Thanks for telling my the size to look out for
  10. So general feeling is a resounding NO! Then wait it shall be for me
  11. Oops, looks like admin moved the thread To a different topic group, sorry for posting in the incorrect one.
  12. Lol, i'm 1.89m tall, 88cm Inseam, 58-61cm C-T Road bike but what that means for Mtb i dont have a cooking clue.
  13. Thanks for all the advice guys, maybe i should elaborate a little bit more, the purpose for the bike is basically to ride around with my kids, one is 4 and the other 6. they have small bmx's, while i save up R4k plus which will take me round 18-24months to save. so either buy it and keep the legs turning around with my boys or do nothing for the time it takes me to save. i gathered this is a makro special and i know i cant expect the world from it , and if it brakes then so be it just as long as i can get some riding time with the kids while i save for a proper bike. definately having second thoughts now
  14. Hi guys, as i dont know much about mtb i weas wondering if this is a ok deal. i know its not a disc brake and not a 29er etc, but as a starter bike just so i can get out thewre with my son's while i save for a proper bike what do you guys think? the owner works with me and wants R750 for it. i think its ok but hten again i dont really know what all to look for in a mtb as i'm normally a roadie. apparently its a 21speed and changes gears on the handle grip(which i dont know if this is a good thing or not as i'm starting out) advice appreciated. %5Burl=http%3A//s1252.photobucket.com/user/ScottRSA/media/Bike1.jpg.html%5D
  15. Nice boys you making us proud. All the hard work will pay off.
  16. slightly off topic, sorry, but as my rb got stolen i'm thinking of buying a mtb for a few reasons, one is safety yes but mainly cause of the fact that my 4 & 6 year old boys want to ride bike every day, on a rb i cant enjoy it with them so that only leaves mtb. i did a goole search and i cant find info on what i need to know ect when switching from road to mtb, there is plenty for mtb to road, so does anyone know of any good site i can do research on before making a choice on which mtb to buy please.
  17. hey do you know my wife too? Just joking, but some people are like that, where they are overboard controlling and if that is the case then sorry bud, make your choice and then forever stand by it. wife or life!
  18. what size was the item in question?
  19. I'm sorry i just cant pay the prices the LBS's are trying to rip me off with anymore. so i was hoping to find out more info from anyone who has used alibaba.com before, 1) How was your experience 2) What was the waiting period like 3) what type of import, customs duty fees are charged to bring a complete bike into RSA 4) would you recommend this approach Thanks for any and all feedback.
  20. having the swim would allow more people to participate as not everyone has a canoe lying around, love the idea though, maybe in the future have both options available
  21. As a former roadie considering on buying a mtb instead of a roadie again i've been trying to do some research on the need to know's about mtb, and came across a shoot out btw the Cannondale 26er and cannondale 29er, "The Cannondale Trail SL 29 2 is our winner for two reasons. If you are new to mountain biking, the Trail SL 29 2 is the runaway winner. It is not even a close race. The experienced rider will have more trouble deciding between the two. One of the wrecking crew noted, “29ers do all the boring parts of mountain biking better than the 26er, while the 26er makes the most of the fun.” Another wrote that the 26er was “...more fun and in touch with the trail.” But when pushed, both riders chose the 29er. Why? Because you have to take all the different trails you ride and factor in the amount of time spent “shredding” versus the amount of time spent JRA (just riding along). If the JRA percentage is as high on your rides as it is on ours, get the SL 29 2." just hought it might be relevent to the topic. as i am neither yet. enjoy the wkn guys
  22. Afternoon Ladies and Gents My work wants to start a team for the one day classics such as 94.7, Argus, Amashova etc. I was wondering what the legal way is to do this. Some of the guys are members of different clubs and others are just starting out. Is it as simple as just wearing clothing that says the company's name on or are there official channels that have to be filled etc? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. PS: no one in the team is a professional and wouldn't stand a chance of winning, its purely for fun and for the company to get free advertising while the riders ride for free with the company paying their entrance fees.
