  1. Awesome pics Ronelle! Must say it was a great event - sadly not as well supported as it could have been but lots of potential. Especially for spectator value!
  2. mileage on the bike is the only answer. Assos are good I also use Giordana, chamois creme can help but hours spent training is the only answer.
  3. I shortened my avid hoses last week. You'll need a barb and olive (R50) and then you need to carefully shorten them keeping the cut hose vertical to ensure oil does not leak out and that no air is introduced. I did mine carefully and I have no need to bleed at all. However it needs a small amount of technical competence - you've got to cut the hose square and you,ve got to keep it vertical whilst you do it. You'll also need a number 10 (or possibly a 7 for a juicy) torx wrench. Brent
  4. OK so what does one need to do in the situation described by splat?I have a mate who parcel will arrive in the next week
  5. I have been using OK sealant - BOS1000 impossible to get in Western Cape yet - but it is superb. Raced last week in breede river have over 30 thorns in each tyre - not a worry! no ammonia and it does not dry out like stans does. Not sure how well it will work for conversions though? as it is does not dry in the same way that stans does
  6. hmm sounds strange. either something is wrong with the bike or you are shifting under load improperly and over stressing the system. I use deore chains or the cheap sram chain and have only broken two chains in 15 years of riding mountainbikes.

  8. not sure how they are joined together, but it could be a slight flex at that point or perhaps different expansion rates at different temperatures that have caused a crack in the paint. But I would take it to whoever you bought it from - I'd be a little concerned that it is in fact a crack
  9. did you get links to all the picturesof you on the site?
  10. Sias: R400?? I though the cape epic website said R600?
  11. OK fair enough so I have checked and I need a 68mm. But how do I measure what spindle length I need. My current crank is a hollowtech and has a built in axle. Of course if I simply use the chain rings I will not even have to buy a BB
  12. OK so in another thread there is a ritchey crank being sold that uses an isis BB. I am riding a Giant anthem, how do I determine what size BB to buy? they come in a bunch of sizes. Obviously I need to match the shell size for the relevant bb shelll on my anthem...what is the other measurement...the axle length? help....
  13. anyone got a team entry going begging for the transalps?
  14. yip on the left of the screen in the daily activity box, click on add activity, then you enter in all the details in the summary box and voila B
  15. technical proficiency is a must for this years epic - much more a mtb race than previous years of open road riding- get out on the singletrack and technical jeep track to get your self used to it
  16. (f this is the Epic we're talking about you have to bring a photo id to the registration - fake ID I say!!

    Fitfuel?

Huh?? I put in order for some stuff from fitfuel. The amount is debited off by credit card. I go the website to see when delivery will be, the website is offline, I dial the number on the mail they sent me...discontinued.. Grrrrrr does anyone have any info? Brent
  18. where can I get a neoprene sock for my rear shock?
  19. OK so thes hubbers are a cruel bunch a clincher is a normal tyre. It has a bead around the two inner edges that locate into a groove on the inside of the rim. You have to use a tube with clinchers. A tubby is a tyre that is a totally enclosed casing with a tube inside it that is glued to the rim(needs special rims). Supposedly lighter with better rolling resistance - but he qualitiy of todays clinchers renders them imho almost obsolete. B
  20. I had the first ascent - legs to short chamois chaffed from the frist ride Cape storm are nice... I bought Giordana from Chainreaction, got a mat to bring them over, 600 each they are VERY comfortable
  21. Any news on whether jonkers will be open tomorrow?? was hioping to do some epic training out there
  22. you guys are full of c@#p!!! Johann is right, it is a lot of work, although I have a friend who has a prescision engineering firm that has huge CNC lathes...if they work we could get him to make some up. BUT the problem is that the 6802 bearings in some fo the pivots are only 4mm wide that is not a lot of surface area for a plastic bushing, but it can be done. So I promise I will give it some thought....but I don;t think they would be R10 a piece.... incedentally I bought bearings today ...whole lower pivot (6 bearings) for R102 rand, means that really other than the hour it takes to replace them it is not a major cost to do every 3000km.
  23. Iwhen I bought it it was 25k (I got it a bit cheaper due to some schmoozing) but I beleive they are now closer to 30k. weight is about 12kg I dont have a super accurate scale. Evidently the frame us a couple of hundred grams lighter than the old one...
  24. I have one...have never ridden the -07 machine. But by all accounts more plush (100mm travel) and a little less skittish. I am very happy
  25. Jughead Dave. I have a lathe and mill machine. I could do some out of any material I can lay my hands on, it is though a little more complex than simply that I would think, radial forces would be fine, axial forces would need new thrust washers...any mech engineers to suggest why we could not do this??
