  1. 819 are pretty bullet proof as are the xtr hubs, the 819 are not the lightest rims ...cant comment on the bontrager wheels though...
  2. incidentally the carbon paste as far as I recall has not got grit, but fine plastic particles in it
  3. OK so I fitted a shim into the tube alongside the seatpost, lets see if that stops the creak. pedal pusher whilst copper slip might dry up, but seriously it lasted two days, pretty sure copper slip does not dry that fast interestingly on the seatpost one can see irregulalry shaped patterns where the anodizing/paint on the seatpost has been worn off as it has rubbed/flexed inside the seat tube.
  4. the issue is definitely not the saddle itself...well I am pretty sure not on one ride the noise was bad so I stopped loosened the seatpost clamp, rotated the whole thing 180 degrees and voila the noise is gone....for two rides (at most) Cbrundson I'd prefer not to buy another post (they are not the cheapest things) perhaps I can try the shim idea...
  5. Thug...not sure of the sizing, but that being said there is a little bit of play...must measure it perhaps that is the problem <ok back from garage> nope 31.6mm seat post and that is what the frame spec is too... more ideas?
  6. mine is not at max height so that is no the issue. PhilipV I've done that (and with the copper slip) lasts two rides and the creak returns!
  7. so I have a KCNC post on a Niner frame that is creaking, loudly, every time I ride over a bump (which on a mtb is pretty often) I have chased the creak the post/frame junction. I have cleaned it and it stays quiet for 2 rides then starts again. I have tried copper-slip, same deal two rides and it is back, if I rotate the post to work the copper-slip around then I have silence again - for two rides. any better ideas?
  8. Cassie I think you are right, but all it takes is one tosser to ruin it. Years ago I got stopped by a local farmer who was well angry having me on his land. After much talking I got him to calm down and he said some guys had actually cut a fence with wire cutters. Now whether it was mtb riders or not I dont know...but there are idiots out there and whilst you and I might be out for a training ride and not damage anything - one idiot can ruin a whole area.
  9. I bought some enduro seals from Rush Sports and there was an issue with the seals not properly fitting in my minute forks as there are some different sizes in the manitou forks range. Andre was really helpful and sent me a new set of oil seals free of charge. great products great service
  10. even if the buggers dont pull you off I am always worried about what I might land up with on my hands eeeugh! I woulda stopped and taught the little bugger a lesson he'd not soon forget.

    How long

probably OK....just watch that crack if it gets much bigger spinning class might be it.
  12. brussel

    How long

looks like a gary fisher...classic place they all break would not give it a lot of time...as long as your seat post extends well below the bottom weld and the crack does not get much bigger you'r probably OK for a while. But I'd be looking for a replacement
  13. aliante is the shiz...gobi does not work for my butt... dimensions are 270mm long and 140mm wide
  14. bel ray fork oil 10w is fine for the blue fox fluid use a nice thick gear oil - really not serious, but you want it to be thick it is a really simple job. The seals kits are available from your LBS
  15. I'm riding continental normal tyres...work fine. obviously UST tyres are more robust, but in 29er they will be HEAVY!

  22. OK Mtbmom...I'll bite even though you said not to the maths is the that the gearing is 10% higher than on a 26er simply put it means that whatever ratio you can ride on the back you'll be one gear lighter. so if you normally climb in the 32 tooth at the back you'll need a 34 tooth on the 29er or equivalently use chain rings that are smaller like a 39 up front instead of a 44 Aggies I don't buy the acceleration deal....I reckon I climb everything faster on my 29er. To the OP anyone who says hardtail 29er is like a 26 full suss lies - they are smoother and more plush, but they are still hardtails
