  1. Hi All, Quick question - with doing lots of Km's over the last month, my knees are hurting below - especially with downhill running (Assume it is runners knee). I am running with the correct shoes and stretch as best when I can. Any suggestions on recovery, stretches, strapping etc that could help?
  2. Must be flu season because I am also feeling blocked up (With Loskop Ultra coming up on Saturday)! Probably the training load and LACK OF SLEEP due to all the early mornings weakening my immune system.
  3. Also passed him round about the 15km mark - applauded him. The Irene ultra was my first ultra and an eye opener before my first Comrades! The last 6km was tough and limped across the finish in 4H52Mins. Got lots of running in the legs since Jan (+-750km's) but not enough longer runs. Doing the Loskop Ultra in 2 weeks - see how that goes! How is everyone elses prep going for Big C?
  4. Yep. The roads also has a camber to them which worked the calves and hammies. Feeling sore today, haha. Need to work on my endurance between the 25-35km mark...
  5. Did the JC marathon yesterday. Was a well organised race. Finished in 4H03 (Just narrowly missed my goal of a sub 4)... Route was flat but deceptively difficult especially the last couple of km's on the second lap.
  6. Anyone interested in buying a used (basically brand new) pair of Brooks Ghost 10 (UK10) ? I bought them for R 2600 from Sportsmans but they were the wrong size. Make me an offer if you interested and I will send you pics of them. They rated highly on all the running websites. https://www.runningshoesguru.com/2017/07/brooks-ghost-10-review/ http://www.wigglestatic.com/product-media/100400585/Brooks-Ghost-10-Shoes-Cushion-Running-Shoes-Blue-Red-AW17-1102571D411UK-7-3.jpg?w=2000&h=2000&a=7
  7. Good luck to all the runners doing Johnson Crane this Sunday. A big turnout is expected so leave a bit earlier from home to avoid chaos at the offramps. Running the full marathon this weekend, gunning for a sub 4hr!
  8. I wouldn't load the legs too much with strength training. Rather do strength training that focuses on the core and back which will help with maintaining a good posture (ie. hip position during running).
  9. Whey Protein (Good Quality) L-Glutimine Powder Slowmag Multivitamin Avoid anti inflammatories as your kidneys are already under pressure and they also mess up your gut lining which is VITAL for the absorption of vitamins and minerals that are required to recover properly. Rather follow a structured training programme and do proper stretching after rigorous workouts...
  10. Couldnt agree more. Im at the point where I dont even like looking at the distance remaining on my watch as this is when the mind games begin - especially during a marathon!
  11. Over time you will get an intuitive gut feel of what pace you roughly doing as with cycling. Most runners have a pace sweet spot in which they feel comfortable running at. Your pace, distance and durations will start talking to each other over time. The best way to improve on running is to join a proper running club, they will guide you on pacing and running efficiency. Correct shoes also play an important role in determining your pace - ie. heal-toe drop.
  12. Nasty stomach bug doing the rounds as well. Nausea, Stomach cramps...the whole shpeel. Seems to get worse every year.
  13. YAY! Kaapsehoop this weekend, super excited to get away and smash it. Hoping to finish around the 3H50min mark and secure a place in 'D' batch for the comrades. Good luck to all that are running the race.
  14. Im thinking of staying in Hilton (+-14km outside of PMB) which leaves a short car drive to the start for the down run. The 2 x wives and 2 x kids can pick up the other car (Spare keys) that we left in PMB when they travel down to DBN.
  15. Thanks for the tips, didn't think of the noise element. Its our first Comrades so in planning mode Just need to find accommodation for our two families (4 adults/2 kids) so self catering would be ideal.....
  16. Hi Guys, To the comrades 2018 runners. Where you staying in terms of accommodation for before and after the event?
  17. Did a 35km on Sunday in the mist as well. Bit eina today but ran it in 3H25mins so pretty happy. Going to start tapering down now until Kaapsehoop. But good point you have there, must do some midday runs to prepare for the heat at Kaapsehoop.
  18. Not too wild about Mizuno gear.....
  19. You should comfortably get 1000km on a pair. What I liked about them (besides the great reviews) is that they are one of the few brands that stick to their tried and tested technology (which works) with minor tweeks here and there each and every year - unlike other brands who try 'reinvent the wheel'.
  20. Decided to bite the bullet and get a new pair of running shoes especially with my training leading up to our marathon in November. After much research on many different makes of shoes (asics, nike, NB, saucony, mizino), I decided to buy the Brooks Ghost 10. Went for a 19km run with them yesterday and all I can say is WOW!! These shoes are in a different league - definitely can recommend them if you a neutral runner who is upping the mileage and wants a super comfortable shoe.
  21. Gringo +2 awesme + 1
  22. Hi Guys, So in a moment of madness, I entered I believe entries are closed now and there will roughly 250 riders taking part. Should we maybe get hubber names of who is doing this race? Gringo (+2 other riders)
  23. Entered! Pllllleeeeaaase Scott, i need this matt grey trail shredding machine!????
  24. Was a great event. My first Nissan Trail Seeker and very impressed. Well organised and lots of water points. Thoroughly enjoyed the 70Km, had a nice bite towards the end and the descents were awesome. My time is correct on the SAS website.
  25. What about Geax tyres?
