As a medium quality Roadie (Did a 4:01, but had a bit of a bug so maybe 3:40 is on), I salute all you MTB guys who "hum" past me on their MTB's with off road tyres....Well done!

Just a thought..........What would be YOUR ideal route for this race if it were up to you? Reason I am asking is that I quite like the route up to the N14 (and then it to me anyway) it almost seems to be just "making up the mileage"? - That is evidenced by the drop off of spectators after the N14...........It IS good to have Heratbreak Hill near the end, kind of like Suikerbossie in the Argus. My first stab would be to include part of Soweto maybe and then through town and into the suburbs so one gets a nice cross section.......and I know the infrastructure may not support it but finish either at Kyalami again or the Cradle which has some significance? Also, I find the Argus start much better organised with batches and gates/loads so you know exactly where to go, even with almost 50% more riders......... BY what was said on TV yesterday it is likley we will have a different start/finsih venue next year (Tanya harford on E TV).

Yip, the smell was especially noticeable coming around to Nelson Mandela Bridge...not lekker.....

I hear what you guys say and don't get me wrong,I am a dedicated cyclist but also realize we have to share the road with cars too.....I no longer drive back after a ride at the Cradle via Avianto etc as guys are riding 2-3 abreast or in the middle of the road (no, not the big bunches, I am talking 2-5 riders), and when you give them a quick hoot to warn them they are quick to give you the middle finger. We've got the main event and the MTB etc, so I still believe it is unnecessary frivolity...........Pic with Phil and breakfast etc.but no mention of the ride...........hhhhmmmm

That was an illegal parking guard. Only pay parking was Polofields......Maxwell or VD Bijl are free...........

I don't know if any Hubbers got caught in the Twitter ride traffic on Saturday but I did. Beyers was blocked with the slow moving convoy when I was en route to do my last quick loosener ride on Saturday am. I diverted around Lanseria only to run slap bang into them at the Valvered corner and have to wait. I am not too peeved but wonder why motorists should be inconvenienced for a mere 50 or so riders who after all have full road closure the next day - To me it smacks of egotistical by the organisers.plus 702 had NOTHING about this on their traffic report on Saturday morning! I say scrap the Twitter ride and if either the MTB or the 94.7 don't suit you, too bad!

I also noted the discrepancy. They also moan about people not getting their entries in but still advertised the fact (via Twitter I think) that one could still get entries for R400 on Friday.................

Hopefully Sunday will be easier than this.......

Too late. Other casette already got fitted............I will get a 28/11 for the Argus.....Doubt I will need a 28 but you never know........but the 11 sounds good.......... I will def. get another Ultegra cassette. This one is 105 and despite being a huge 105 fan, compared to my previous Ultegra it feels like the shift lever has to be pushed slightly further across when going from smaller to bigger rings..Maybe imagination but feels like it..........

Starting in S group with my dad. He is 90 years old and will be 91 in March, just in time for the Argus - very proud! Think this will be his 10th 94.7 - Hope I am still going strong when I get to his age!

The Cradle is the absolute best! I have the (dubious) pleasure of riding my roadbike against my brother and sister-in-law on their tandem..........I have to hang on by my teeth! It's worth it though!

Have a Q re Shimano 10 Speed. Are Ultegra and 105 Casette Rings interchangeable, ie just the top 3? My plan is to switch the top 3 of 105 27/12 with the top 3 of Ultegra 28/11. Anyone know if this is possible? I have a 25/12 at the moment but being given a 27?12 by someone who is getting a 28/11.....thus was hoping to adapt the 27/12 to become 27/11. Thanks

My point exactly!I learnt the hard way, always buy up to the best you can afford. To go from Tiagra toSora is probably already a compromise. My advice: Do NOT ever buy an entry level model, ever! You will always wish you had maybe gone with 105, Ultegra etc...and to upgrade will make your eyes water!

I had a few Treks, but what I cant believe is my dad has a 3 year old Trek with Ultegra groupset, its a carbon OCLV frame and it weighs 10kg.....It is a size 54! My Cannondale weighs 8,7 and it is a size 58!

My first road bike was a Trek 1000 with Sora...stay away from it, it's rubbish! Rather go for a secondhand bike at that price. For 7k I got a Cannondale Synapse with Ultegra 10 speed. It was low mileage and with carbon frame, bars, stem, seatpost etc..... Just my 2 cents worth...

Thanks htone!Yip, thats the plan. Already have no fear of hills and did a 85km ride today at base mile pace wihich means I am well placed for 94.7....what I am even more chuffed about is that this is about my 6 or 7th ride back after a 3 year break, and at age 50 this Dec I am well chuffed!
