  1. mdk, it looks up to date, liked the TT bit, what happened with the takkies? Never got another oppotunity to run it again
  2. Thanks Slowbee - did it because when I bought a tandem there was no info on how to ride one. When I launched it I tried to contact all tandem suppliers to offer them free space on the site to advertise their wares with outlets but regret zip came thru. In the beginning I wanted to sell 2nd bikes but got so much spam that I killed the idea. Thanks for the compliment as the site is bit stale and this has inspired me to update it.
  3. Stand to corrected but I think Gary at Cyclelab or Club 100 could help you.
  4. Well that's promising mdk! I haven't gone with you once yet and I get a 2nd invitation that's because I know you will have fun and will want to do it again.
  5. Communication is vitally important to a good ride. It is pointless that both stoker and pilot are unhappy and with some small adjustments to speed, cadence and bike handling can be the difference between having a great time or breaking up a relationship.
  6. Half bike = Tandem set up. Agree that the tandem set should be based on the half bike set but due to the different styles of riding (more seated riding) they cannot be identical. My saddle on the tandem is slightly further back and the handlebars are slightly higher than the half bikes set up. I just find this set up a lot more comfy. mdk5552008-05-21 00:18:18
  7. Great tips - Agreed that standing isn't easy and the easiest way to learn is to attemp it on a very slight downhill and once you feel comfy try it on a bridge. In the intitial stages dont even try to rock the bike like you would with a half bike because the results will be earth shattering. To this day my boet and stand upright and so far are OK.
  8. Howdi Andre The Table View based Outriders Cycle Club have rides that leave from the parking lot of LifeCycle/Planet fitness every Saturday and Sunday morning. We also have a good track squad who just recently took several medals in PE. You are more than welcome to join us this weekend and see what we are about. PM me for more info.
  9. When buying property the three golden rules are Position Position Position Well no change with the stoker The stoker is always right The stoker is always right The stoker is always right
  10. Tandem + Flight deck = there is no other choice
  11. and I bet that was a double apology
  12. and so is the fork
  13. hmmmm.....will try MTB tandem on a gravel rd but single track .......no way.
  14. Vespa, the last some one asked the thread ended up with about 30 pages of fighting but amongs others it is a slightly elipticle shaped gear that eliminates any dead spot Does it work - those who have one swear blind by it - those whose next bike does not have one are unhappy, those who dont have one should ..........get one
  15. 100% correct. I tell my stoker that every 15min they must make sure I have some juice and it is also their job to make sure I eat. Heck, I even got my missus to give me shoulder massage just before we climbed Suikerbossie.
  16. That is good value for money
  17. So far the stoker stays clipped in one works for us but the one day the Boet and I reversed roles and just could not get the stoker stays clipped in system working. Think it was a case of both of being out of our comfort zones.
  18. Big H - are you serious about this? I thought the pilot called the shots and the stoker did what he was told to? Yup dead serious...... if your stoker is the daughter of your mother in law even more so!!!!!!! Agree with Big H 100% and dont forget that you have the right to choose your stoker as some people just cannot stoke. I had one stoker who I could feel was was doing no work and I had to battle keeping the tandem going straight as he just steered from the back. My brother is no light weight and when we have stopped at a traffic intersection with him clipped in it is like trying to balance a lollipop on your finger but believe me he is the best stoker I have ever had. With him doing U-turn in a narrow rd is no problem and I can even slow right down to a snail pace before having to uncleat.
  19. Just ask some who had them and went back to the other one. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=25114&PN=1
  20. Waddya mean? 15 years ago they had square chainrings... they called them "Biopace" didn't last then either... I meant that after 15 years of tandem riding... I discovered Q-rings....yes it was biopace then.. not the same... Point is - that my stoker and I battled up the hills.. mainly because of our different points of our powerstroke. Now with Q-rings we fly!!! Fact. My boet and I weight 200 kg (without the bike) and since going Q have never used granny again. Matter a fact we climb some of the rolling of D'ville without going to middle blade.
