  1. You'll need to test ride and get a feel for the bikes. This is the only real way to put the technical numbers into perspective.

    Enduro seal

Works like a charm and +1 for the cost!
  3. Current mask fogs up my spectacles. It fits snugly; just not flush against the base of the bridge of my nose which creates a perfect vent for warm air to flow on to the lenses when not on a bike i.e. in a shop. Ordered Ciovita and am waiting for delivery.
  4. Also from a GX setup; Shimano is problem free! GX has one up on Shim', the rear derailleur clutch realy makes life easier when need. Not a deal breaker though.
  5. If the media circus, rightfully or wrongfully, is anything to go by then COVID 19 will have wiped out the planet by the end of the year.
  6. +1 for CycleArt. Respray about 4 years ago and no issues with paintwork to date. Just make sure you double check the location address. Google maps got me on the wrong side of town.
  7. Sadly, correct. Posted yesterday (Sat 7 Dec) on WhatsApp groups - "...Another mugging on the spruit today. Took place at 8am near the reeds by Old Parks (north of Sprocket and Jack, just south of the narrow long bridge over the spruit). Two male riders heading south toward S&J, held up by two males armed with a knife and a gun. Robbed of cellphone, watch, bike computer, bike tools. Also demanded phone password and disabled tracking immediately. Riders unharmed fortunately. Pinned location to follow..."
  8. We should be safe. We definitely aren't. To avoid being a statistic citizens need to accept that violent crime is a reality in SA. (I've been on the receiving end of a bike jacking) I need to make it clear that I don't condone violent crime. I'd rather we all work towards not becoming a victim.
  9. There always has to be one. XTR doesn't cost anything near XX1 (or XO1 for that matter). Besides I did state it's not fair to compare GX and XTR.
  10. Just done the switch from GX to XTR shifter and derailleur; using the SRAM cassette until I new microspline hubs come out to replace current Roval XD. Very happy with the setup and prefer Shimano to SRAM. Not fair to compare xtr to GX...the GX wasn't playing nice though. What I didn't initially consider was the shifter adaptor as I also changed brakes. Had to order a Shimano adaptor for the Hope brakes. Obviously not an issue if brakes are Shimano.
  11. More like "fly to the turd"
  12. Don't confuse modulation with "squishy". Shimano don't modulate; they bite; from Saints to XTR.
  13. Tip for keeping a Bpack bladder muck free; post ride soak in some water with baby bottle cleaner. Rinse and store on the freezer until next time.
  14. I'm going to give the 9100 shifter and derailleur a go and run that off the SRAM GX cassette already on the bike; and will switch to a Shimano cassette once the micro spline becomes more readily available. The XTR x 12 is far more affordable than XO1 and XX1 which makes it a winner.
  15. No warranty claim allowed on 2FO; I (apparently) ripped the shoe when I fell after having had them for about 70km or less. Back to using the 5/10 that were replaced by the situation 2FO. Fivers are still the benchmark!
  16. Had my eye on the Assegai but went with the Magic Mary 29 x 2.6. Went with the MM as it was a lot lighter. Do you feel the weight of the Asse'? Captain Fatbastard Mayhem But you're right - I do need to ride more. I continually tell myself that, and I'm testing an Asseguy at the moment so I need more than the 2 rides that I've had to form a solid opinion on it. But so far - so grippy. Don't like the DD casing as much as the SG casing on Schwalbe (can see the different applications of the butyl insert - Schwalbe continues to the side knobs, DD ends ~10mm below them) but the grip characteristics are quite good and may actually be better than the Mary it's replaced. But I need more than just a session on TM, and 4 repeats of Vasbyt in Tokai to form a more accurate assessment of it.
  17. Any recommendations - for a front, true to size, 29 x 2.6 mixed use, hard pack & wet but not necessarily muddy conditions. Grip over speed and weight and handle rock like a demon with the hide of an elephant. 0ptions Spez Eliminator grid (not true to size), currently run Butcher 27.5 x 3.0 and want to try something different. Schwalbe Nobby Nick (waiting for one which is going on the rear and slightly off true size), Maxxis Assegai (no stock and width is max 2.5), WTB Vigilante (local stock is non existent but true to size)...
  18. I had a very short ride on a Spez Levo...I can now see why the attraction. I may be a convert...and had inappropriate dreams about the bike!
  19. Litter relates to any item that should go in a bin. Organics still take weeks or months to break down. Imagine a beach filled with banana peels and other organic matter waiting to decompose. Most people wouldn't chuck a peel in their garden, or their parents or workplace garden just "sommer". Zapit in a Zibi! Don't litter. Trash it!

  21. So I'm not a roadie...a saddle bag? Isn't that breaking some code? It doesn't even match the kit or bike!
  22. A number of posters ride bigger or smaller than what would be deemed normal. How you feel on the bike is the priority rather than trying to stick to traditional sizing alone.
  23. Cradle moon is a great ride too and not far from Northern Farm. Then there's buffelspoort an hour outside of JHB - damn fine selection of trails and distances.

  25. Meh, cyclists! Some of the, pompous, responses make one really proud to be one.
