  1. The bike that fits best! Reach, standing height etc. are most important. Components can be added when needed. The wrong fitting bike is an expensive lesson to learn.
  2. Nail. Hammer. The fact that is selectively overlooked when comparing crime in SA to 1st world countries.
  3. Howdy, Karkloof in the KZN Midlands is a great riding spot. Plenty trails through the forests and pretty well marked too.
  4. We established, after the fact, that my Fiancèes Physiotherapist, at the time an anti COVID libtard, affected her after a torture session. Said physio was a super spreader and went on to infect family, friends and colleagues. Fiancèe recovered after a bout of persistent coughing and the usual fever, fatigue, loss of taste / smell etc. I ended up in Hospital for 6 days. Thankfully not ICU but in a secluded ward with a breathing support through my nostrils (not intubated or ventilator). This was mid November and I've just started getting back into the fitness routine. As they say...the struggle was real.
  5. Ok, I'm not to concerned with weight and want avoid punctures...run Schwalbe Magic Mary 2.6 Soft upfront and Hans Dampf 2.35 rear for general riding. For shuttle days Magic Mary and Assegai. Problem with Schwalbe is that they're a bugger to get hold of. Maxxis DHF or Ardent and Aggressor combo can work (Exo / DD and all those acronyms)
  6. Looked into this. It was more beneficial upgrading to bulkier tyres (with supportive side casing) instead of using wafer thin tyres plus an insert to protect the rim to get the same result.
  7. "5 year crash replacement 5 year warranty" Pretty damn amazing! I can vouch for to JB03 hub - brilliant!
  8. Anything other than "what do you mean?"
  9. Nothing like asking a loud hub rider "how's the engagement on that hub?". Easiest way to tell apart a follower from a trail shredder
  10. +1(000 000) for summit!
  11. Just put an order in for these babies. Price and quality are sublime. The high engagement hub is brilliant and easy to maintain!
  12. The problem with expensive gear is that they're destroyed, by a fall or snagged on thorn trees, just as easily as non-expensive gear. Regular scouring of the interwebs and lbs will land you some good kit at a better price. Just takes a little longer.
  13. If the media circus, rightfully or wrongfully, is anything to go by then COVID 19 will have wiped out the planet by the end of the year.
  14. More like "fly to the turd"
  15. Don't confuse modulation with "squishy". Shimano don't modulate; they bite; from Saints to XTR.
  16. Tip for keeping a Bpack bladder muck free; post ride soak in some water with baby bottle cleaner. Rinse and store on the freezer until next time.
  17. Had my eye on the Assegai but went with the Magic Mary 29 x 2.6. Went with the MM as it was a lot lighter. Do you feel the weight of the Asse'? Captain Fatbastard Mayhem But you're right - I do need to ride more. I continually tell myself that, and I'm testing an Asseguy at the moment so I need more than the 2 rides that I've had to form a solid opinion on it. But so far - so grippy. Don't like the DD casing as much as the SG casing on Schwalbe (can see the different applications of the butyl insert - Schwalbe continues to the side knobs, DD ends ~10mm below them) but the grip characteristics are quite good and may actually be better than the Mary it's replaced. But I need more than just a session on TM, and 4 repeats of Vasbyt in Tokai to form a more accurate assessment of it.
  18. Any recommendations - for a front, true to size, 29 x 2.6 mixed use, hard pack & wet but not necessarily muddy conditions. Grip over speed and weight and handle rock like a demon with the hide of an elephant. 0ptions Spez Eliminator grid (not true to size), currently run Butcher 27.5 x 3.0 and want to try something different. Schwalbe Nobby Nick (waiting for one which is going on the rear and slightly off true size), Maxxis Assegai (no stock and width is max 2.5), WTB Vigilante (local stock is non existent but true to size)...
  19. I had a very short ride on a Spez Levo...I can now see why the attraction. I may be a convert...and had inappropriate dreams about the bike!
  20. A number of posters ride bigger or smaller than what would be deemed normal. How you feel on the bike is the priority rather than trying to stick to traditional sizing alone.
  21. Cradle moon is a great ride too and not far from Northern Farm. Then there's buffelspoort an hour outside of JHB - damn fine selection of trails and distances.

  23. @HuckNorris "Am gearing up to start a few night rides on my mtb , so ordered lights from Nitecore. Super service and stunning product .!!" Would you mind posting a review of your new bright baby after a few rides? Specs look fantastic as does the device...Definetely on my radar!
  24. MTB shorts + baggies
  25. 100% with Traveler. If you can test ride a bike over a weekend rather than a mini parking lot run you'll be in the best position to make a decision. Opinion wise - the Scott. Have a 2013 entry level 650 Spark. The most important part of the bike has been problem free...that's the frame. Far off from the RC though.
