  1. I've been living in Rotterdam for 16 months, drop me a PM and I'll try answer any other questions. Unfortunately I haven't cycled much since moving here besides my daily commute but i'm planning on buying a road bike in the next couple of weeks so I can get back into it. At the moment I commute on a fixie that I bought online from http://www.beastybike.nl/. If you are planning on getting something nice I would suggest you try keep your bike inside at night or invest in a really good U-Lock. Commuting is a absolute pleasure because of the abundance of bike lanes, I cycle around 15km to and from the office and not one bit of my ride is shared with cars.
  2. As far as I know they aren't using Decca anymore. I think they have moved to a brand called bio racer. When I requested the new pricing for the club kit it came back a lot more expensive than last year. initially I joined and it was R1,200.00 and this year it is close on R2,000.00. In terms of the Decca kit, I have 2 pairs and they are super comfy. My only problem is that the legs lost their elasticity after a few months. If you are joining a club for the kit then maybe have a look at bionic cycling, they also use Decca kit and it is a lot cheaper than Bryton USN, They also do a lot more in terms of group rides etc. If you are just looking for a awesome set of kit without having to join a club then PM me, I could possibly help you out with our corporate kit which is amazing quality at a great price.
  3. My 2 children playing in the garden[emoji13] still in the process of building up the highball but yesterday it weighed in at 9.4kg. These bikes are amazing:)
  4. +1 on the edge 200, the bryton rider 20+ also looks like a pretty good option. I used my smart phone for a year before I bought a GPS and it did the job just fine. there's loads of apps like endomondo, strava and map my ride that do the trick
  5. Agreed, I think most of us ride to get away from that stuff in some way or another but knowing who is texting or calling you could be beneficial to some. If there's a family emergency and people are trying to get hold of me I would feel like a proper ass for avoiding calls because I was enjoying my alone time on my bike. Different strokes for different blokes I guess but for me, that would be the only feature I would like over the 810 and IMO it's not a R3000 feature;)
  6. I mainly ride MTB and you will very seldomly find me on the road and I can definitely reccomend the 810. Before I was using the old edge 705 and that was also great but the 810 is an absolute pleasure to use. I use free open source maps and they work perfectly, read http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2013/05/download-garmin-705800810.html The edge 1000 does look great but you just have to sum up whether those few added extras are worth the cash.
  7. Nearly R3,000 to see who's texting me while I ride, its a cool function but not worth the extra cash IMHO. Think i'll stick to my 810.
  8. Name and Shame, personally attacking you is complete BS
  9. I checked a while back and u can take a bike but it has to be packed away in a bike bag so it's no re of a mission than anything else
  10. Drop me a text, 0835897971. Im in Honeydew and a drive through to Groenkloof every now and then for a ride.
  11. Looking for some old school 700c gum wall tyres for my SS build. Found a set of Black Mamba gum walls but R500 is a bit steep. any ideas? I'm based in Joburg
  12. Agreed, my Garmin fell off my bike a few months ago and no such luck. Good on ya mate:)
  13. Just flew with my bike from Lanseria to CT and it was fairly straight forward. booked extra luggage online prior to flight (R245.00 each way) I would suggest pre-booking as if you just arrive it is R350.00 per item each way. Got a old bike box from my LBS, removed pedals, seatpost and front wheel. Bubble wrapped everything and it all fitted pretty snug. Good Luck Good Luck
  14. My Tallboy:) This past weekend at Jonkershoek.

I'm currently running racing Ralph EVO snakeskin on fr and rear and I think they are great but to be dead honest I have never riden anything else. How would you guys compare these to the ikons? I'm in the mood for change
  16. Anyone know how many batches there are in the marathon?
  17. Ive just gone from a 680mm flat bar to a 750mm. First ride felt like I was hugging my fat Aunty for waaaay too long but once I got used to them I realised how much more control I have and its pretty comfy as well. Just have to keep an eye out for tree's and other tight spaces. It also doesn't hurt that it looks awesome.
  18. I know it's been a "sore" topic here on the hub for the past week or 2 but I thought it would be necessary to share my experience with cyclesure over the past few days. During the Trailseeker in Cullinan last weekend my Garmin decided that we just weren't meant to be together anymore and jumped off my bike without me noticing. Although I knew it was insured I spent the last 30 kms of the race stressing because of what I had read about cyclesure the week before on the hub (if I had the time the week before I probably would have cancelled my policy) Although I knew nothing would happen over the weekend I emailed cyclesure immediately after the race explaining what had happened. Monday morning at 8am I received a claim form and was instructed to get a quote for a replacement. On Wednesday morning i sent the completed claim form and the quote as requested.Within an hour payment was authorised, no questions asked and I was at the shop collecting my new Edge 810. All communication was done through Anike who was extremely helpful. This is the exact service I expect when I'm paying R500.00 a month on premiums. Hopefully they keep it up.
  19. If anyone picked up a Garmin edge 705 along the marathon route please PM me. Thanks
  20. If anyone found a garmin edge 705 please PM me.
  21. Got it Apologies for that guys. I think a rant heading gets more views than a rave so maybe it was a good thing Super chuffed with the service I received though.
  22. Ha ha I deserve all of that. Serious brain fart on my part. Any advice on how to change the topic?
  23. Took my components in on Saturday to get built onto a Tallboy frame and Ryan did a epic job. I was only expecting to get the bike back on the following Saturday but yesterday (Monday)I received a call from Ryan letting me know that they've started the build. He kept me updated throughout the day and called me yesterday afternoon to tell me the bike is ready to collect. The work he did on the bike is nothing less than awesome and I've never riden such a smooth bike. Thing goes like clockwork Thanks guys, I'll definitely be back for all future services.
  24. Solid ride though, had a blast
