Picked up my Advanced anthem on Wednesday this week. Did my first race with it Wednesday night. All I can say is brilliant ride. The ride position is comfortable. As for the suspension that is just brilliant. The brakes are sharp and precise. Put simply you point her and she will go.

The giant was more expensive. In this particular case the Giant is the better specced bike. If one was comparing then the Scott Spark 910 would be the right one to compare the Giant Anthem Advanced 29 er X1 to. The spark would be about R 5500.00 more than the Giant. I must say my choice was based on replies from the hub. I picked her up yesterday afternoon and did the Kia night race last night in Modderfontein. First impressions: Wow wow wow wow. The ride and suspension are brilliant. If there is one thing that struck me with this bike is its quiet, very quiet. You seem to glide along. I would compare it to a silent assassin. The 2x10 set up. This was one of my concerns compaired to the 3x10 on the scott. The 2x10 is very good. You seem to use more of the gears than you would on the 3x10. I was also concernd about the no gear position indicators. You don't need them, you always seem to know where you are. You know when you can't select a lower gear because the gear selector goes slack. Put simply I think there is less clutter as far as the gears go. Then as far as the granny gear goes that was also not an issue. The 2x10 will make you a stronger rider as far as the granny gear goes and that will happen quickly. The XT brakes. All I can say is use 1 finger and squeeze lightly otherwise you are likely to go over the bars. Very good brakes. Overall the Giant was very good. Ride position is very comfortable, this bike just feels right. Given the same choice again the Giant would win hands down. My other bike is a Scott.

I know the feeling, I've pulled something in my left hamstring just above the back of my knee last Friday on a ride. Rode yesterday and it was sore. Will be doing Kia night race on Wednesday night so I'll have to see how it goes.

Yes it has SLX components, also aluminium frame. The front fox shock is also a lower spec compaired to the advanced anthem. Still a good looking bike in black.

Well i am picking mine up on monday. I cant wait. Just in time for hakahana. I will try her out at modderfontein night race on wednesday night.

The biggest problem at the moment is that a lot of places don't have tyres as suppliers don't have stock.

Any recommendations on front and rear tyres for my Giant Anthem Advanced. Shop has suggested Schwalbe Racing Ralph's snakeskin rear and front. I was on Maxxis Crossmark Lust before this. As a rear they were good but not on the front, not enough grip. They were not good in the wet. I do a lot of trail riding, Hakahana type riding.

Johan I would have been there but I'm waiting for my Giant soft tail. Should get it this week. Will definitely be in for the next one.

How many of you ended up riding? If I wasn't bikeless I would have been there. I think that group ride once a month is a very good idea.

It has shimano XT. It's not a problem, I'll leave it like that.

We'll I have now made up my mind, Giant Anthem it shall be. Just have to get all my cents in order and with any luck I should have it by the middle of next week. Now I am excited. That will put me in the saddle for a week before Hakahana.

I was at cycle lab again today and most of the high end models don't have them. Just never paid attention to it until now.

I would say just show up. They open from 7h00. Maybe send a pm to hakahana trails. I'm sure Johan will reply with info.

On Saturday morning they are going to take a ride to test the new rhinkals addition. They are leaving hakahana at 8h30. You should join them.

Tell me does the a giant Anthem Advanced 29er 1 2014 model have indicators on the gears so you can see where you are. The salesman tells me no they don't. Something to do with the brakes and gears coming as one unit now. The Giant has Shimano XT brakes. He said a lot of the newer bikes are coming out like this now.

Surprises and Hakahana, that's a little like running into your mother in law in the dark in the bathroom.

The owner at the bike shop I'm looking at said the following. Now he will sell me either so he is not biased from a selling perspective. The Giant is like the Toyota Hilux of the MTB world. The reason I'm looking at the Giant is that I always hear how people rave about them. I'm not built like a feather duster and from this point of view the owner at the bike shop said the Giant would be a better fit for me.
