  1. Put me down for 10 rand a night please. PM details and I will make a deposit
  2. Anything is worth it if you are able to get value for your money. If you pay 100 bucks and only go once a month it is far more expensive than paying 300 bucks and going five times a week. You need to evaluate how often you will use it and then decide if the price per visit based on your usage is value for money for you.
  3. Am I the only one who can't see the robots in the video?
  4. I would say they're damn lucky that the driver was not armed and felt himself in mortal danger from multiple attackers. What a bunch of #$%^heads.
  5. So I did the 20k at Karkloof a couple of weeks ago. Enjoyed it, but couldn't understand why everyone raved so much about it. This morning I did the 30k route. Holy mackerel, that is something special. When I finished I wanted to just start again. What incredibly well prepared and maintained trails. Fantastic. Great credit to the Karkloof guys.
  6. Ouch. Glad you are ok. What a great girl
  7. Wouldn't be pretty to come flying around a corner at high speed and have a head on with a horse.
  8. 100% - let's have a beer one day and trade war stories. I'll buy.
  9. Hey. Some venue. Awesome trails. I used to run around those forests as a kid so it was a bit like being young again. Definitely need to plan a weekend down there soon. Incredibly well marked trails. Saw a jackal and surprised a huge bush pig and her babies.
  10. Seriously, go and read the definition of under your control in The FCA if this is that important to you, but under your control means that it is on your person and not easily accessible to anyone else.
  11. Yup - you said it. It is the times when the red mist descends when, unless your life or someone else's is directly still at risk, that even to talk about drawing a firearm is nuts. If your life is at risk, I will happily watch you shoot whoever you need to, but drawing a firearm in any other circumstance only brings more negative perception to firearm ownership. As regards your other comment, please don't try and patronize me or assume that I don't know about anger and firearms. I have no interest or intention of getting into a firearm related pissing contest with you about who knows the most.
  12. Of course it is legally under your control in a backpack. Impossible to access quickly, but under your control
  13. The fact that you are implying that you would have drawn a firearm because someone pulled a zap at you after doing something dangerous is probably good enough reason for you never to take your Glock out of the safe. The majority of gun owners spend a lot of effort promoting responsible behavior and it only takes a few people drawing or using guns in the wrong situation to really hurt our cause.
  14. I rose karkloof today with a gun in my backpack, but only because I had it with me for the drive down and had nowhere to leave it. Not sure how to conceal comfortably with easy access if riding normally.
  15. I wonder what the legal issues might be if someone were to return fire. Presumably if someone was armed and perceived themselves to be being fired at they could shoot back. Not sure how many people would be cycling along with a gun tucked into the back pocket on the shirt though.
  16. Sorry. Dumbass question but I can't find the info on the Karkloof MTB website. Is there a facility to pay to use the trail early in the morning (first light) or to pay after the ride? What is the procedure if no facility before the ride? Any answers would be gratefully received.
  17. Many thanks. Super excited now, although not sure about the state of my bike or car after squeezing a 29'er into the back seat of an A4, in the dark. Ha
  18. Quality. Thanks a lot. Will try karkloof.
  19. Hi Heading to Pmb tomorrow morning after getting back from ct tonight. Staying in howick. Driving so that I can take a bike with. Would anyone recommend a route that I could safely do alone on fri morning and still be in Pmb for a meeting at 9am? Never ridden in the area before (at least not since I was a kid).
  20. My mother has smoked for 40 years and has never had lung cancer. So going by that logic, it is safe for everyone to smoke.
  21. I will try and remember that if I ever get to the stage of being able to pass anyone going up a hill.
  22. I always try to stop and help if I can, and it has cost me a few tubes and whatnot over the years, but i would hope that one day, if I am in a tight spot for whatever reason, then someone would also stop and help. I well remember the feeling of stupidity when I first started riding and went out a few times unprepared in a group and okes had to help me with setup, fixing a chain and a new tube on different occasions, so I always try and help without making the oke feel like a ****. I don't think anyone would go out with the specific intention of using other peoples stuff if they have a problem, but maybe I have too much faith in human nature. Anyway, even if the person is just a taker, I would assume that karma will catch up with them sometime.
  23. Ha, kept thinking about this thread whilst out riding this morning. Made a point of waving to all cyclists and joggers. Every single person waved or nodded or greeted in return. Must just be friendly people in Centurion.
  24. After being back in SA for 6 months I have realized that robots seem optional, and if you do stop, creeping forward is the thing to do for some reason. Also, I suppose it's hard to keep an eye on the robot when you are texting or emailing or checking Facebook on your phone, as so many people seem to do.
  25. It's your personal choice if you wear a helmet or a seatbelt, but endangering your kids lives by not putting them in a seatbelt in the back of the car should not be your choice. As individuals, kids have the right to be safer in a car and we as parents don't have the right to choose whether to put their lives at risk by not enforcing seatbelt laws. Ask any paramedic who has attended the scene of an accident where the kids head has smashed into the head of the person in the front seat due to no seatbelt use in the back about the benefits of child restraints.
