  1. There have been some nice second-hand bikes for sale in that price point recently. Unless you want to buy new
  2. If you basically only ride road, and all your cycling buddies are roadies, sell the gravel bike and buy a road bike. Stick 28 or 30mm tires and you are good to go. Get a bike that better suit your needs. And something you like 🙂
  3. My wife had 30 tooth with Ultegra (10 spd) short case derailleur that worked. It did work better with chain in big chainring (more tension on derailleur). Use a quick-link on the chain to check if it will work. (or a piece of wire/cabletie if you don't have one)
  4. I am also one of people that used to commute into town. But due to safety concerns (mugging) I gave it up. I can deal with the cars, taxis and busses but not somebody with a gun. I do miss it and it is a great way to stay fit. Best advise I have is to wait somewhere safe along the route and join those that also cycle. There is hopefully more safety in numbers.
  5. Just make sure that the design of the frame fits your body type. Some gravel bikes are more racier than others. Or the top tube is short/long/etc. I for one don't like the fit of a Giant. But it works for millions of other people all over the world. What I am saying is to testride the bike. Tires are relatively cheap to replace.
  6. Not medical advice. Some questions: what is your max hart rate? Don't guess. Do proper tests to determine it. And most definitely don't use 220 minus your age. Every person is different. how long have you been cycling? Recreational/racing You do realise that if you participate in a race your hart rate will most likely be higher than when you train. And you can't compare your hart rate against your wife's. Does not work that way. If you are concerned about your hart, go and see a cardiologist. Don't ask for advice on the internet.
  7. Fad. Might as well do it on mtb then
  8. Watched this video yesterday, and man, what a beautiful bike. Like the use of technology applied to a modern steel bike (nothing beats steels bikes for me)
  9. Does this mean he is finished with triathlon? Because singing with a pro cycling team would imply that or eventually lead to it.
  10. And somehow, this Spanish story does not surprise me. And it is most likely the case in all countries in the world. If they can cheat they will.
  11. I am well aware of the cost implications of tv coverage. I therefor do no expect full coverage of everybody that rides. But some footage from a drone of the rest of the riders would be nice. And showing the category results for the amateur classes at the end of the days highlights would also be nice. And yes, I know you can look it up on the internet. Else, why bother with even having these categories. Might as well then be: Pros vs the rest
  12. Not sure if it has been said in previous comments but I am really disappointed in the coverage of the other categories at the epic. I realise this is essentially a UCI Pro race now, that allow some amateurs to also ride, but to not even mention these winners? Really?
  13. I am in for a long day. December training did not really go according to plan. I will be taking it easy because I have learned to listen to advice ...
  14. Yo, but there were al lot of industry buzzwords and marketing spiel in that article. If I had the money I would by myself a custom built wheelset. Something like Nick suggested or from a Cape Town company. But then again, lighter, more expensive wheels don't make you a better cyclist.
  15. I find the differences in the style of racing between the men and woman fascinating. The woman seem far less secure in what they do - they are for ever on the radios or dropping back to the cars. And this is not just SD Works. Ashley: They were talking about her yesterday during the coverage of the race and commented on how well she is riding this season. Her change in training as well as the change in team were some of the things mentioned.
