I had a pair and they were awesome. Won't make sense too todays generation of cyclists. Those days when nobody had helmets, cycling shorts were for roadies and suspension did not exist .

I visited a friend in JHB last weekend and we rode the spruit on Sunday. Rather surprised to see two people on SS bikes. At least there are still SS bikes in use By the way: the spruit is actually perfect for somebody new to single speed bikes

Mark, those were incredible light bikes for their time. Unfortunately, they also had the tendency to crack. The original had a white steel fork. No suspension. I think a carbon rigid would work well with it. Maybe even painted white

Theory is so beautiful. Have you ever ridden a ridgid? Just try locking your suspension out for a few rides and see what your arms feel like. Ridgid is not for every one

It is usually dust/dirt in the screw mechanism. It is used to tighten the leather so you should be able to remove , clean and refit it. Might also be the rails. Or the searpost clamp on frame. Or a the seatpost in the frame
