  1. You will love it! This is now my favorite race. I am doing the 37km this year, but that’s mainly because I am not very fit at the moment and will be doing The U in Oct as well
  2. There is no cut-off time. Final guy came at around 7:30 last year.
  3. I did just over 6hrs last year. Was damn tempted to bail at WP3 but pride kept me going. The technical stuff is all rideable but it is relentless and rocky. When you are very tired even going down does not provide relief as you need to concentrate not to crash.
  4. The DNF is between 30%-40%. They brag about it at the start of the race. It is pretty tough, but another reason is that you can bail at waterpoint 3 and complete the race with the 37km competitors. TheY then mark you as a DNF
  5. I think people are a bit hard on Pollard. His kicks to poles were almost all from the corners. Something I thought he did really was line kicks from penalties. He was spot on. Williams line penalty kicks were at least 10 -20m shorter.
  6. Love retro look as well. Very cool!
  7. Yes Following V1. Love the ride. Still tweaking the front shock a bit. I am heavier than the previous owner. I think I got it spot on yesterday as I hit a few PRs on G-spot yesterday without pushing hard. Biggest surprise was how well she climbs! My other bike is a carbon Tallboy 1 and the strava times on the climbs are very close, even hit one or two PRs
  8. Thanks! I also like the subtle color scheme. Can’t take credit for it though. Bought her from a fellow hubber who did a great job on the build.
  9. Finally joined the Evil family. She is so at home at my usual spots (Mont Marie + G Spot)
  10. I don't know them at all, but based on looks and price I would not buy them. It feels a bit like those Makro/Game bikes that are dressed up to look fancy but won't last. I would much rather go for something like a Tissot. Not sure what their prices are these days though.
  11. Keep an eye on topwatch.co.za. They get some really nice ones in from time to time. I almost bought one of those orange Planet Ocean's a while back, but I was not ready to sell anything. As mentioned I would not buy new anymore. Even my wife got hers secondhand.
  12. That is the point of top end watches. The quality of the steel and the saphire crystal means it looks perfect for many years. I remember I worked with a guy in 1999 and he had a Rolex Submariner that he bought new in 1990 for R3500. In 1999 it was already in the region of over R30k new. If you look at how long they last and how the price increases, it's almost a no-brainer. Problem is it always feels like you missed the boat and should have bought 5 years ago.
  13. Wow that is a mouth full. Good luck! It sure is quite a privilege to study at Maties!

  15. That Seamaster is the only one I would definitely never sell. I bought it in New York in 1999. I will never forget it. It was the first high end watch I bought and paid R7000 for it. I went in and out of the store probably 5 times and kept trying it on. It was a crapload of money and I just could not pull the trigger. I am so glad I did. I had it serviced for the first time 3 years ago and you will never say its almost 20 years old. I swim in the sea with it all the time. I have convinced quite a few people of buying one of those (my wife has a quarts version). It is the best value for money as far as high end watches go. Your son will be very happy with it if he gets there. What is he studying?
  16. My first decent watch was a Tissot. I loved that watch! That is quite a nice wish list you've got there. I used to think that I would only buy watches and never sell any, but I found that that was a dead end. I found that 4 good watches is a good number for me so I keep it at 4 now. I wear them all so they are not just stuck in the safe. By selling one from time to time and buying another one has rekindled my love for watches. Currently I have the Panerai, Breitling, Omega Seamaster and the Blancpain Fifity Fathoms. Not sure which one I would sell at the moment so will see when the itch appears again. My next holy grail watch would be a AP Royal Oak, but they are way too expensive, even second hand. I buy and sell on Topwatch.co.za. Johan that owns the site always gives me a very fair trade-in on watches and it is so much easier than trying to sell it myself. He also has a very nice collection and often get more in.
  17. Ha ha. I appreciate that! No, fortunately I don’t work for Steinhoff. I have been a watch nut as long as I can remember. I also prefer watches that are not too mainstream. I never buy new anymore. If you take your time and find the good deals its possible to indulge quite a bit. Unlike bicycles, watches keep their value. I sold that IWC Big Pilot for 50% more than I paid for it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Doing the 37km this year. Cracked the 6hr mark on the 63km last year. Loved it, but that was a tough day!
  19. This one was my holy grail watch. Had it for about 4 years and then sold it again. I still love the look, but unfortunately it was never a comfortable wearer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I was never a huge Breitling fan, but I got this one a couple of years ago and still love the black with rubber strap Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Thanks. I prefer the non-mainstream watches but sadly I have to admit that Panerai is not that anymore. Bought this one back in 2006 when Panerai was still niche. Still love it though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Swopped out the steel bracelet for brown strap for the winter. Love how much it changes the look and feel of the watch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Damn Billions S3 is good! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. No way that can be real. If you you jump while riding a vertical way there is no way you will land on the wall again...at least not according to Newton. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Relax, he was making a joke about Kitshoff, not about Beast. I dont see any implication in that post about Beast’s status re quotas Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
