  1. Does anyone know if this will be happening this year?

I have tried the website but it seems to be down and I cannot see it on any calendars.

This is one awesome race so I hope it has not disappeared.

  2. Who was the guy in full hub kit riding a Scott.

He came flying past me. It looked like I was standing still, did not even have time (or breath) to greet him. He must have started in one of the batches after C because I did not see him in our start group.

The guy in The Hub kit made me feel like I was on a sunday cruise. He passed me at about 30km in the half marathon but I am sure he was doing the 70km

  3. Just do it on knobblies! A few of us did it on our MTB's last year and one guy in our group had slicks. The speed difference was so minor, that I don't feel it is worth the effort of changing tyres. What tyres are you running? We were all running hard Crossmarks and we did a 3:30

  4. I have done the ghetto tubeless set up on 2 of my bikes and have never had to replace rim tape. I just top up with some Stans every 4 months or so and have had no issues whatsoever. The Stans or Joes conversion kit is merely fiberglass tape (which can be bought in rolls at sportsmans) and a rubber strip with a valve on it. Imho its a waste to buy the conversion kit if you can do it your self with tape and a tube. Great marketing buy Stans and Joes though

  5. Best upgrade you can do! I recently changed from Sram triggers to gripshifts and I feel I have so much more control when it comes to gearing down in tight situations. I was initially worried about mis-shifting but after doing Hakahana yesterday without a single mis-shift, all I have is good things to say about them. I have also cut some Esi grips like Bolt67 and they work like a charm.

  6. The Alexandria dirt road loop is a good ride due to the undulating hills and the wind. There is a footpath in Cannon rocks that is meant for hiking, but if you are keen for a real challenge, ride it. There are a few wooden steps that you have to walk up but it is great fun going down them. Its roughly 7km of high intensity riding.

  7. From what I read, all the elements that made this race great has been removed.

I agree with Borborygmi, it seems boring now.

The route last year was not demanding technically. It was tough, given that 80% of the ascent took place in the first half of the race over a short distance, but not demanding technically.

Although I understand the organisers wish to maximise on entries, the essence of this race has been lost.

Stop dumbing down races - if i wanted to ride easy dirt road, i would go to Breedt's nek, or better yet, save some money and ride dirt shoulder road around my 'hood.

Could I enquire as to why the decision was made to change the route? I mean if it has worked for 6 years, why significantly change it now?

ASG can you tell us the reasoning behind the changes?
