  1. And I was happy with ny 11 400kms, until I saw this!
  2. I started on a Merida XT, four year ago at 120kg's. In six months I was down to 85kg's and unfortunately still at 85kg's. I had no issues with the Merida. Only upgraded as I started to do stage races the same year. When I bought the Merida, my budget was also R 15k, I was able to buy the bike and all the kit, but that was 4 year ago. Good luck with your venture or adventure!
  3. Replacement for the Santa Cruz lost in a bike jacking. Lucky to still be here!
  4. Good old Methylated Spirits. Think my mother used it on me as a kid for payback. Burns the crap out of you, but works wonders. Skin heals quickly, even under the roasties. Had a nice one on Saturday in the rain, and the hip has 75% of the skin back! Knee done, elbow as good as new. No infections, apply once a day! And I am 50!
  5. Stolen: Santa Cruz Tallboy 2 2015 When: 30 September 2017 Where: Centurion, Gauteng 3 BM, Gun, knife and pepper spray came out of the trees, suddenly, just before the tar road. First one showed the knife, and second showed gun. They take the bike, then pepper spray you. Took my one shoe, gloves, cell phone, Fenix 3 and my beloved Santa Cruz! Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section
  6. Nice to turn 50. The wife gave me an “acceptable” budget. Took almost 2 months to decide what to buy. New XT crank for the Stages power meter, and the TACX Bashido trainer to join the Zwift crowd. Rotor ovals on its way for the crank!!! The Santa Cruz is smiling.
  7. Broke a carbon rim and a wrist during the York Endurance race. They replaced both rims, as the profile changed from the set I had. Must say South Industries also came to the party with a reduced price, thus lowering the 15% i had to pay in the on rims. The rims were fixed and back at home, while I still had a "backplate" on, waiting for a proper cast due to swelling. No issues with the claim!
  8. Unfortunately not. We did give it all we had. Great to see that there is still people who cares. We had a tag team going, but we could not save him.
  9. Janos is "Da Man". Helped me with a chainring. Not the normal item (Q Rotor 36), I asked 3 shops for pricing. He was the only one that responded and got it to me in JHB, by the date he expected it from the supplier.
  10. Go to Clint at FinishLine Cycles in Kempton. He lives for selling bikes to kids. His passion!
  11. Shifting is smooth, just rode up and down the street after fitting it. Will take it for a proper ride this weekend and will then see what the "jump" feels like!
  12. Last 2 years. Shoulder rebuild. Tested the doc's work with two spectacular crashes afterwards. Still working fine. Surgery on eyelids, looked like a drunk Spaniel doggie, before operation, and you do not realise what this does to your already poor eyesight. They cut off the eyelids, cut another 1cm off, and put them back. Not fun! 3 weeks of hell! Single track was a nightmare before this drastic step!! Now, single track she is so much better!!!

  15. Good advice I received on my first. Buy your second bike first! Now there is four! First one sold after 3 years!
  16. A carbon dropper, just 35mm. Should save them family jewels.
