  1. Considering they're available for less than R1000 on Gumtree, they're really pretty reasonable. I picked mine up last year for around R1400 new.
  2. I was scrolling through my Apple TV yesterday when I noticed a new Red Bull channel. I clicked on it and saw that on top of the expected Red Bull videos there is also a live coverage category. Scrolling through that showed that all the UCI world cup events will be available live, starting with Pietermaritzburg XCO and DH early in the year. It's going to be damn nice watching the coverage on the big screen in HD. http://www.actualidadipad.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/appletvredbull.png
  3. Appreciate it, Hacc, I was starting to lean quite heavily towards that watch (admittedly based on the convincing YouTube ad) but that thread has put me off it completely. Garmin 210 looks like the business now.
  4. Thanks, those prices seem relatively decent.
  5. It's happened at that jump a few times, oddly enough, which made some riders suggest it could be another rider on a safety crusade but I'd hate to think a mountain biker would do something like that. All efforts to involve city council have been fruitless. A number of people have tried, including myself and it's a brick wall of vague responses, missed meetings and eventually non-replies.
  6. Do you know if their sports watches are any good?
  7. Was that not theft?
  8. Yeah, the jumps and trail are all maintained and built in a rogue fashion so whoever trashes them has just as much right to do so as the people building them. I just can't fathom the reasoning. It's possible somebody felt the jump was dangerous but it's well off the line since the municipality inexplicably dug the trench and you'd have to choose to do that step down/step up quite intentionally.
  9. Not a case of needing the soil as it's a difficult spot to get to (the launch would have been easier as it's on the road side of the ditch) and it looks like the soil was just tossed into the trench.
  10. Jumping the Jan Smuts step down today I made the horrible mid-air discovery that someone had destroyed the landing. It's quite clearly intentional as they've taken a spade to it and basically dug the centre out of it, leaving the sides. It's not the first time that people have decided to destroy jumps or sections of trail that we've built but it makes me wonder: a) Who does this kind of thing? b) Why? c) How come they can find the energy to take a spade and destroy a jump but not to go out and build/maintain the trail?
  11. Thanks guys, just looked this up and it seems to be just the kind of thing I was looking for with its ability to display speed in kph as well as running pace. I've also come across the Tom Tom multisport, which is stretching my budget (prices ranging between R2500 and R2750) but seems to have some nice features, anybody know if the Tom Tom brand is any good? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-RsUAUDfpM
  12. I'm primarily a runner who enjoys a bit of cycling so I've been looking at getting a decent running watch instead of lugging my phone around to track my training but I'd really like to be able to record my rides as well. I'm not sure it warrants a full on multisport watch targeted at triathletes so is there a simpler option that allows one to switch between running and cycling modes? I guess a budget would be in the region of +- R2k
  13. See you there. Can we use the wood to build a Turvey style jump?
  14. That bike has nowhere near enough travel.
  15. If you can't afford Chris King hubs why even bother riding? You shall ride the Byron line backwards in shame.
  16. Yeah, what is this, a bike for peasants?!
  17. Dear organisers, if you're going to produce cotton t-shirts for an event and you have some pride in your brand then use a Fittees shirt at the very least. Otherwise, follow Nike's example with the RunYourCity events and supply something that people would be proud to run/cycle in and fits the purpose. These baggy one-size-fits-nobody t-shirts only ever get used again for gardening or painting the house.
  18. I'd say a photograph and a hub post when you get home. If the guy is a commuter, very good chance he'll be in the same place same time the next day. Just be prepared to be lambasted with comments about photographing from a car. Hubbers only tolerate car photos if they were taken from a mounted GoPro, while stationery and you were wearing a helmet.
  19. Is the Photo of the Day a specific thread?
  20. I think the decreasing installments is based on the depreciating value of some of your items. For example, that R50k 26" you bought three years ago that is now only worth R9k on the Hub classifieds. Somewhere an actuary managed to punch out a bunch of numbers to create the business model so I'll accept that it must work on some level.
  21. I've done all the budget insurance companies for various things; car, household, business… I finally ditched the whole lot and went with a broker. Best thing I ever did. It's not that much more, really, and the personal service makes it all worth it. When something goes wrong you're generally dealing with a guy that's on your side trying to sort out the claim for you rather than a company that's trying to pick holes in it.
  22. Loads of soil, a TLB… you're pretty much the coolest person I know.
  23. You pitched up, you rode, you finished first. Nothing you can do if there was nobody to race against you, you did your bit. Congrats, champ!
  24. It happened just not in a cycling context but I'm sure she thought I was really rude for not looking at her the whole time she was talking to me.
