  1. The biggest problem with SA sports culture is that we cannot seem to take a long term view on things like sponsorship. Here our European counterparts are light-years ahead of us. Teams like Bulls, Topeak-Ergon, Merida and the like seem to retain their sponsorship even if things get a bit rough at times. We are quick to ditch our experienced riders for "new talent". The reality is that we can hardly fill up a taxi with the promise we have in SA, so we need to nurture and support our experienced riders even more. Max is 28 and Kevin 36. If Sauser has an Epic win in him at 38 (and he probably would have been competitive at 39 as well), Evans and Knox can certainly be competitive at Sani2C. I think we need to stop being fans and start being supporters. These guys don't need a fan base, they need supporters as what they are doing day in and day out might look like one huge adventure to us, but to them it is also their livelihoods and passion.
  2. Love or hate the Aussies, they always seem to show up in the big games. My heart say NZ, my head say Aus.
  3. Nex time they play rugby there in front of a full house, watch the hooker walking to his jumpers to give them the line out call. Thats how loud it gets there.
  4. 5 runs 2 balls... come on proteas!
  5. what a game?!?
  6. a draw means nz goes through.
  7. Lets hop Oldman Vittori forgot to take his viagra this morning.
  8. oh my shattered nerves!
  9. tell him its porn, you'll be in much less trouble.
  10. Win or lose today. Some real guts shown by the Proteas.
  11. NZ seems content just to see off Tahir. We need another wicket... fast.
  12. HOO HA! Go Morne!
  13. HKGK.
  14. Ok so 500 entries left... Make that 350 after the pros and celebs... Make that 50 after the Amabubezi. When is Vermaak's biography coming out? I wont mind to graft like he did as long as the annuity income is as good
  15. as they say... a polished turd is still a turd... Who in his right mind kicks someone in the face?
  16. Many said that about the 95 Bok WC squad. The weather seems to be a bit of a concern, so prep takes on a new dimension with now also having to factor a likely shortened game into things as well, or do they simply play on, and use the reserve day if weather becomes a factor?
  17. According to Bet365 we are slight favorites to win the match. Perhaps I should put R1000 on the Kiwis that way I will be happy if we win or if we lose
  18. I doubt that there was any discussion at last nights finisher dinner on who earns what, and who's got the bigger limit on their private banking facility. What you are describing is the outsider vs insider view where the outsider sites pricing as the main barrier to entry. Those who have done a few Epics often get by on much less than you think.
  19. The perfect pricing would be to have the event 102% subscribed. They still are subscribed many times over, not just 102%, so there is still room for these increases they are passing. What now essentially happens is that today's Joberg2C is the Epic 5 or 6 years ago, that new Knysna to Cape Town race is where Joberg2C or Pioneer was when they started off, etc. If the Epic did not evolve in the way it did, there would not have been a void to fill by the Joberg2C and Pioneers, and if these races did not evolve, there would not be that new Knysna to CT race. The pricing at the top end does get away from the working-class guy, but with a pipeline of new events now all fighting for a segment of the market, capitalism and market forces at play here ensures that the growth is met with new events coming online, which in turn leads to more new events and better established events.
  20. They are showing good form. I got the impression that the way they play that they will give you a few chances. If Guptil was caught on 4... You have to take your chances...
  21. I suppose most fans will come over for semis and the final. Why pay for an extra week if you only play Ban in the QF?
  22. Apparently the SA Ind game was sold out months ago. Only finding out where you play your QF relatively late in the tournament makes it difficult for traveling fans.
  23. A very clinical performance by the Proteas today with bat, ball and in the field. The 3 remaining questions are now answered in my opinion being: QdK - yes, its only one good innings out of 7 so far, but the old hands will tell you its about hitting form at the right time. His footwork looked decisive today and he is timing it well. 5th bowler - If your 5th bowler gets a hat trick in a QF it probably settles any debate in the matter Abbot vs Vern - I like the Vern, he's a phenomenal player, but Abbot has been playing his heart out at every opportunity he gets. Onto the SF. I actually hope we get NZ. It should be a very good contest between bat and ball, and for us to go all the way to the final we will need to get tested properly in the semi. Saying that I hope beyond reason or logic that Aus have a booboo against Pakistan or India. I cannot see Bangladesh usurping India, but stranger things have happened.
  24. 100 / 1 after 13 overs. Not long now...
