  1. So I got this e-mail today... and I wonder since it is valued at R180k, those three lucky ones that will get to ride with LA will also get new fancy Trek Madone 6.9 or the hotel is so expensive? In any event, riding with LA to Hermanus would be more of experience than riding with him at Argus: 40 vs 40k riders. Dear <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> If riding alongside Lance Armstrong - legendary US cyclist, cancer survivor and healthy lifestyle champion - is your dream, now is your chance to make it a reality! Discovery clients have an exclusive chance to win As a Discovery client, you have an exclusive opportunity to win one of only three tickets to cycle with Lance Armstrong. If you win the prize, you'll join Lance and a peloton of 40 cyclists on a 100km, day-long ride from Cape Town to Hermanus on 10 March 2010. One ticket is exclusively available to Discovery clients. Discovery will give the remaining two tickets away on air with KFM and 94.7 Highveld Stereo later this month. Listen out for details from 22 February! Like Discovery, Lance wants to encourage South Africans to lead healthier lives It's all part of the Discovery Lance for Life Tour, taking place in Cape Town from 9 to 11 March 2010. Lance Armstrong will spend these three days raising awareness and funds for the work of the JAG Foundation, a leading sports and education charity. He'll also be promoting his own Live Strong campaign, which - like Discovery's Vitality wellness programme - encourages people to improve their lives by making healthy lifestyle changes. Like Discovery, Lance is passionate about helping people prevent illness and reap the rewards of healthy living. ... The value of the prize is over R180 000 The prize includes return flights to the Mother City and accommodation before the race if you are not a Cape Town resident. 2. weight? just curious
  3. I might join you for a corporate destressing secion ot SBR . Will confirm tonight. m
  4. Michael, well done on finishing. I think there was not a person in the entire race that did not have a moment. for some of us we need it every year! (touch wood - haven't needed it since 2007....) I'm suprised my Bell is still fine after my last crash. Then again Oak Valley is not the N2 And how do you know it is fine? I would not risk it. It might not be cracked though, but still internaly damaged. my 2c
  5. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> GTR1 I have to agree with you. What the value of the property has to do with anything? Mr. Pless, I happened to live in a ?fancy? suburb as well, that has a walks, runs, cycling races and is used as a parking for certain popular venue. It is used as a shortcut to get to Sandton and therefore there are cars and bikes racing up and down during peak hours, yet none of us, residents, tries to intimidate or hurt them as obviously is the case with certain of Cradle residents. What would you say if we, cyclists, would blockade the cradle and not allow you into ?our? world? All that said, some cyclists should be not cycling (just as some drivers should not drive) because of their attitude towards other road users. And lastly this forum is probably the worst place for this discussion, as most of us enjoy cycling, and are aware of that we are the soft target. For criminals, cars and accidents. Unfortunately we as a hub are as powerless as you, the residents, in controlling the masses of novices, seasonal, inexperienced and inconsiderate cyclists that use your area for their rides. We simply do not represent all the cyclists in South Africa. Maybe everybody should take step back and look how to solve the problem instead asking ? for ringside seats? or insulting each other. Everyone go have coffee, Prozac or whatever cools you down. M
  6. triple: 50-39-30 & 11-25 on granny gear: 2.49m per crank revolution double: 50-34 & 11-28 on grany gear: 2.52m per crank revolution I must be heavy and unfit
  7. Woofie, I am happy for you but unfortunately I am not as fit, yet I am riding 52-36 and 11-28 'couse I need the granny gear and (seldom) the big ring up front to keep with the boys on the flat. Will change to 11-26 but I know I will sweat bullets up Northcliff. Tankman, Woofie is right. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/29pgc10/ratios.jpg
  8. Compact twin 10 speed. sram makes 11-28 cassette and this is all you need. You can find blades 50,52 and 53 big and 34, 36, 39 that will fit compact crank so when your finesss get up to speed easy to change to "normal" 53-39 setup.
  9. Great idea. And while they are at it' date=' why not suspend everyones licences. This will prevent any accident from happening.[/quote'] and everybody will have to cycle... it will be like back of 94.7 madness everyday.
  10. only 68 days left... damn alarm on my clock did not go off... 12h a week, not sure how hard.
  11. The larger rotor the larger cooling area, quicker heat disipation = better breaking. It is not the fluid that looses its properties but /in most cases/ the hoses that connect the lever to the caliper. In other words they expand under the presure and heat and do not return to their original state. Therefore it is advisable to change to braided silicon hoses /like goodridge/ to negate this. OK, I am writing this from a automotive perspective rather than cycling one, but the principles do not change.
  12. Who is riding the spruit in the morning (5ish), from where (I am in Rosebank) and does not mind a company? I need to get out more on the MTB but I am not so sure about the safety of a single rider...
  13. Late update: With the recent wave of complains about SA LBS and distributors varanty claims I have to say that CoolHeat (through Linden Cycles) have repaired my rollers in a week, without a question (they could have rejected my claim for all the holes I drilled in the frame ). Thank you. m
  14. I have to agree with Summit Cycles, Subarus are great cars. I can not comment about their dealers, beacuse I never (except collecting my first one form Braynston) used their services or their 'plans'. As cars go, subarus are very similar to bicycles: you can personalise/modify them to your taste/needs. Unfortunately, but not unlike lightweight bicycles, the quicker they became - the more expensive is the ownership experience. WRT R90-00 Castrol oil. I presume, sir, that when you ride you drink only Braamfonteinspruit water?
  15. My rollers are in for a warranty claim. Real pity as I realy enjoyed them. So, for all of you Antares users, wait for the outcome of this before you rush and mount the resistance device as I have done - it might invalidate your warranty. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/29pgc10/IMG_0046Small.jpg http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/29pgc10/IMG_0048Small.jpg I dont see how the resistance device could add/cause the cracks. Maybe I am to heavy or spend to much time on those (some 3k to date).
  16. You should have a look at the TACX Roller EcoTrack. (...) One of these would retail close to R2000. Or for almost twice the money you can get the TACX Antares... My first rollers were the EcoTrack which I picked up on hub for R400' date=' while the Antares I bought new from my favorite LBS for R2100 (I might be 100 bucks off either way ). The only way you could wedge wheel between the resistance device and the rollers is when you ride of to the side. By that time you will be in free fall situation, so it will stay there just for a short time. Some other brands of rollers have little wheels positioned on the edges of front rollers to preven riding of to a side.
  17. The Antares does not have attachement points for the resistance device. You will have to drill your own, in the metal tube behind front roller (the rear is all plastic and I would not advise trying to attach anything to it), and it is perfect fit. They advertise that the resistance is: 'from light breze to 8% climb', well maybe I am so unfit or the larger rollers on antares in comparision to previous Tacx's make the difference but I am still stuck on breze-2 http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/29pgc10/DSCF8446Small.jpg http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/29pgc10/DSCF8447Small.jpg Also my unit tended to pull to the side with the belt, forcing a constant turn. Is is not adjustable/foldable anymore to say it all
  18. I have been to Suikerbos today. Maybe they should close the reserve for public, and I dont mean for cyclists but for all. There was bunch of empowered citizens in the parking lot by the hotel, playing music to loud, making noise (or were they "singing"). The nature watchers stop anywhere and only accasionaly leave their cars. I have seen people trowing a bottle from a car. There was clown driving up-stream. A MTB guy appeared from what I though was a hiking trail. Quite few people riding in the wrong direction AND without helmets. Right on begin of the first climb there was a guy in CycleLab top riding down hill... Still great venue for cycling and appeared as if they cleaned the surface a bit.
  19. funny this one: how do you ride.... this one does not have pedals...
  20. So, what has changed.... will they close SBR for us to use or not?
  21. @ delgado & holy: dont you two, want to go to some cozy restaurant and hold hands?
  22. Damn subarus, they make you modify anything. My adventure with cycles only starts... Anton: rush, Simon is on my case already @LOOK: it is lovely frame the 986, but road crank in MTB frame? Hell why not, let me wait for fathers day and convince my daughters that what daddy wants. Do you take smarties? pavlus: E1k+fright+SA VAT (for one with ceramic bearings) 29pgc102009-06-11 14:02:28
  23. I dont try to show off, but it is such a beatiful piece of kit that I just need to share with you all. Just a question: will is suit my Merida Scultura or is it time to upgrade. http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo197/29pgc10/SNC00379Small.jpg 29pgc102009-06-11 11:22:30
  24. I found this elsewhere: The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English". In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter. In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away. By the 4th yer peple wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru. Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas. If zis mad you smil, pleas pas on to oza pepl.29pgc102009-06-10 01:08:26
