  1. I use one of these, best thing I ever did Not the best picture I know, but there is a frame bag there and a "gas tank" bag as well... the top one is especially handy as all my food goes in there, the frame bag carries everything else. EigerSA2009-08-12 10:06:22
  2. You guys are all awesome... thanks for all the advice!
  3. Turtlek that does make sense in a strange sort of way! Also bear in mind that it's not 36k's in one go, but 18 in the morning then 18 later. EigerSA2009-08-09 13:54:22
  4. I should also point out that I can only ride on a Tues, Wed and Thurs.... this make a difference at all? Basically I got too routes home, the 18km which is pretty flat and a second route which is shorter, only 13km but features a hill that climbs up 1 km in a kilometer.
  5. I ride from work through days a week on my mtb, which is a trip of 18k's. Now the question I have is this... Would it be good or bad to ride both to and from work? Is it too much riding? I'm really working hard at improving my riding so I don't want to go backwards here or hit some sort of plateau. What you guys think?
  6. What an awesome way to make a living! It's kinda sad though that we in South Africa don't seem to have any sort of custom frame builders up and running. I looked a little while ago at having a bash myself, but found just sourcing the steel itself is a nightmare and pretty much undoable! So ended up starting one in carbon fibre. Have a look at these fellows, (http://www.sirenbicycles.com/) (http://www.tedwojcikbicycles.com/mountain-bikes.aspx) both custom frame builders. And what may be especially interesting, is that these are the bikes (steel frame) that are predominantly used for extreme ultra-distance mtb events like the "great divide" and the "idatrod". Nice find Holy!
  7. Lance Armstrong is a unicycle. He's only got one nut. Basically unicycling is when you completely loose the good sense your God gave you and then ride around a single track on one wheel...
  8. Hi all, first off I think this is the right place to post, but if I'm wrong then sorry... but on to the post. I read some time ago (but can't remember where hence the post) that the burning sensation in your legs depending on where it is, can indicate to you as to whether your bike set up is right. So for example if the the area above you kneecaps burn, then you too low or high. Anyone else know anything about this? Where should you feel the "burn"? Thanks
  9. Well said Porky... I totally agree with you! At the end of the day each and every one of us has the freedom to make a choice... whether it be to buy organic/free-range products or not. I think that in this case Woolworth's dishonesty here took my choice away and that sucks. Think I'll send Tesco an email and see if they want to come out to good old S.A. and give stores here a run for their money
  10. Ok, maybe I'm taking this too personally, I'm just tired of business just doing whatever they please, and only after being caught out do they do something about it... oh no wait... only after being caught and also being bitched at, do they change their tune. Rave over... life carries on
  11. I'm not really suggesting that the eggs supplied should be free-range or not, would be nice if they were, but the reality I know is entirely different. What's pissing me off is that I bought Woolworths eggs because of the whole 'free-range' issue.. I may not be the best "greeny" in the world but at least I try. Woolworths are quite simply lying, they've jumped on the green band-wagon and are profiting from it... all the while being 100% aware that they are not telling us the truth! They are lying! If a retailer doesn't want to go green, that's cool with me, it's their choice as it is mine to shop there... but don't lie about it is all I'm saying! So in essence, I'm complaining about being lied to, it's just not cricket!!!
  12. I got sent an email which has just sent my blood boiling. Seems that Woolworths who market themselves as the only retailer to be using free-range eggs solely, has been lying. Turns out that the only eggs that are free-range are the ones in pullets... not the eggs found in ingredients. Go check this out, it explains it far better than I could: http://www.urbansprout.co.za/is_woolworths_just_another_bad_egg What really annoys me, is not so much the free-range versus battery... but that they are lying to us. On top of that, their response is a case of "oh well... when people bitch then we'll change", that's crap! So until Woolworths learn that telling lies is bad and publicly apologize, I will buy elsewhere, hope you guys will too.
  13. I did the Juicy Lucy and although everything was late, and a little chaotic, I was happy to wait a while since I now have a number board and timing chip. I don't see what all the complaining is about? We don't pay anything to ROAG, it's completely free, and for our trouble, free chip and number in order to make future registrations easier. I agree with the ROAG policy of forcing people to register with them in order to ride their event since it will just speed it up in future; it's a good thing people! And the idiot who complained about the 18km "seeding" maybe should've shut his mouth for two seconds and LISTENED when a minute before the race it was explained by the organisers that the seeding was purely a case of when you registered, nothing to do with ability since was also part of the family/fun race. Seriously, no one is demanding money and it will speed up the queues, move on people!
  14. OK' date=' I'm off to buy my energy drink and gel bottle now. Dischem in Hillcrest only has literally two or three items of whasp on a shelf in the corner, and no pepto pro gel. I'm going to tell them off when I get there. [/quote'] I phoned the Hillcrest branch today and they didn't have a clue what I was on about did you see the bottle at all?
  15. Where do you get that from?
  16. Good! If possible, quote the e-mails when you write the cycling magazines and the event organisers. Quote the dates and times of the phone calls, and who was on the other end. Collect ammunition and facts. Tomorrow I want to see everyone who moaned about them post all that info. EigerSA will get his wish of TheHub agreeing on something I also wish for world peace and goodwill towards all men... which will come first I wonder Good luck jmaccelari, at the very least you know that the hubbers are behind you on this (in fact, if you do manage to get hold of the ceo, point him to this forum)... no more so than barend... good on you!
  17. In reality it would be a difficult thing to achieve. First you'd have to get the hubbers to agree on a common cause (which is all but impossible if you read some posts). Second you'd have to identify a common foe, like the race organisers or the CEO. Quite a daunting proposition for anyone. I guess at the end of the day, that's what sites like "Hello Peter" are there for.
  18. Renting the chip seems the best way forward to me. But I was thinking more in terms of service... as in a representative meets with these guys saying "us 300 odd cyclists who aren't happy, sought your problems out or we'll boycott this event, or that organisation... that sought of thing. Either which way something should be done, service in this country is fast becoming a distant memory!
  19. Thanks for everyone's advice. Think 'll just leave well enough alone for now in case I break something.
  20. Wow! Seems to me that the HubSA should have some sought of "representative body" where they can approach organisations like CC and tell them off. At least they would have a substantial following as opposed to just one guy like "jmaccelari" getting no where in a hurry here! Good luck brother, I think you gonna need it!
  21. The Jucy Lucy will be the first event I do as a roag member. As I understand it, we get chips and boards at the event? Does it cost anything? And where do you find the timed results?
  22. Ok thanks all
  23. Ahhh... ok thanks. One more thing, can the steerer part be extended somehow? Or is it a case of what there is is what there is?
