  1. Well... I don't know, clinging to outdated ideas purely because of those yesteryear feelings could be considered romantic in the right light... and what could be more outdated the steel frames!
  2. ahhhhh..... steel.... mmmmmmmm Holy... from byron to david sylvian, that's quite a jump there!
  3. I guess that at the end of the day, everyone is gonna hold onto whatever idea they favor. For me I reckon steel (or perhaps more accurately chromoly steel) is the best material to use, if it were cheaper than alu I believe a lot more manufacturers would use it. For a home builder, steel is easier to weld than alu, I know because I've welded both. I also believe that carbon fiber is the material of the future. Each to his own I guess There's a guy who built bamboo road bike. He had the bamboo woven to specification then used epoxy to put it all together... oh and he made a carbon fiber bike, and carbon fibre/bamboo hybrid... makes for interesting reading. http://www.bmeres.com/bcframe.htm http://www.bmeres.com/images/bamboocomp01.jpg EigerSA2009-10-07 09:44:55
  4. Chaps (and Girls), go to this site and read online or download, they are fantastic reading. Oh and can't remember if it's issue 1 or 2 but there's an article by Tinker on his ride in the Cape Epic. http://xxcmag.com/site/XXC.html Tread boys, you guys should read these as well, in my humble opinion this is what a mtb'ing magazine should all be about! Inspirational stories from the leaders and the back markers
  5. And how come no one brought up wood?
  6. A beautiful bike... a beautiful 'steel' bike
  7. Well done to you and your sis... huge cajones! I'm definitely a member of your fanbase now EigerSA2009-10-05 13:11:22
  8. WHAT! Married...!? That spoils it Maybe we should ask Helloise or Mookyspunky (was that the name?)....
  9. Even 20 years ago SCOPE was ahead of it's time, it recognized a need for eco/ozone friendly babes... and check out that price! D*G, take not of her pose... now I'm not saying you should copy that exact pose, but points will be awarded for creativity use it...don't use it...
  10. So what? They had t!ts back then to... Scope was awesome! With the stars in just the right places it made you use your imagination... and my imagination hovers only an inch or two above the gutter and it supplies me with images no magazine could compete with SCOPE RULZ! Ag please man' date=' Scope left so much to the imagination that geriatrics in strollers started to look good![/quote'] Perhaps my imagination is a little too wild then but I'd still rather read a scope than a FHM or one of those.... SCOPE STILL RULZ! Shellds you should rather go onto http://www.fhm.com cos there they show some titties Not going to argue there about that... but... Scope's girls were the real deal, they were awesome. Nowadays you can't even be sure if the girls are real or photo manipulated into quasi-perfection! And also the articles were cool

  15. Wow! Dirt*Girl.... seems you are in demand here, is it your glittering personality or are you posting 'Scope' type jersey pictures? Oi Fruity, I was told you had a new lady in your life... you shouldn't be encouraging this
  16. The biggest problem with steel bikes here in South Africa is that we're not exposed to what you can really do with some steel! Spend a little time looking up frame builders around the world and see what could be! Steel is used to build frames at weights that rival both alu and carbon, and offer a ride that is more comfy. There's loads of advantages to using steel, longevity being just one. It's just unfortunate we're not exposed to these frames here at the end of the world, our choices are limited to what the big guys decide to import and that's it. Oh and I'm a huge carbon fan and believe it's the material of the future... but steel is real!
  17. No you don't need to seal it, you could add a dab of epoxy if it would make you feel better. And honestly, cutting into it is no big deal at all, pretty much like cutting into fiberglass, plastic... just tape the cut up first, then work slowly... I do agree with Speed Devil though, before cutting just make sure you not going to need that 1cm!
  18. Tape it up first where you going to cut to prevent splintering and delamination. I use a hacksaw with a very fine blade and go slowly... works for me.
  19. Afraid so.
  20. Never again will that subject come up since I have found the solution to the age old argument of soft-tail vs hard-tail (and hard-tail rules by the way)... presenting the "Thudbuster"! Now at a bike park near you: http://www.thudbuster.com/
  21. It's perfectly cool...
  22. The bike shop screwed up, they said they would have it ready by a certain time/date and they didn't... and on top of that they didn't bother to phone to let him know, he had to call in... that's bad service no matter which way you turn it! So who was it? EigerSA2009-09-28 05:44:59
  23. about 3.3mb and quite honestly all it does is re-size so it's super easy
  24. I downloaded a small program called "PIXresizer", works well and is free, what more could you ask for
