  1. The Pacific Island nations and a bunch of the countries around the Arabian peninsula seem to be topping the ranks in terms of obesity.
  2. It's a good ad. It's sad that the Marketing Dept. of Hyundai wanted to rag on vegan food, but whatever. This also aired during SuperBowl: Carl's Jr new Beyond Burger (no, it's not vegan if you take it with the cheese and mayo). https://youtu.be/vhv7WfalZvc
  3. I cut you deep, né?
  4. Watched 'Russian Doll' on Netflix. Nice little dark comedy, but one which never gets too cynical.
  5. Good opinion piece. Regarding the "ultra-vegans", like I've said before, there'll always be outliers. They shouldn't dominate your thinking. Saying you're not going vegan because of Peta or some other loudmouth is the same as saying you're never going to touch a bike because of Lance Armstrong. ****'em and just do your thing. That's my approach.
  6. You won't know until you try. Why not try this recipe for a no-lamb curry: https://delightfuldeliciousdelovelyblog.wordpress.com/2014/06/04/easy-vegan-spicy-lamb-curry/
  7. All hail our Lord and Savior! Seitan!
  8. This is a safe space. All is welcome.
  9. Nice, simple article over on enduromtb on suspension kinematics: https://enduro-mtb.com/en/mtb-suspension-kinematics/
  10. In the time it took you to find that pic, you could've typed a constructive response.
  11. Let's make no bones about it, some of these vegan cheeses are pretty damn calorie dense, so if you're watching your figure, I'd not eat too much of it. This Friday evening the wife and I are planning a cheese 'n wine for dinner. Still on the hunt for what cheeses to use, but I'll post here to show what we had.
  12. For melty cheese, you generally need to go for an oil-based version. For spreading on crackers and the like, a nut-based does really well.
  13. "Oh please" what?

  15. It can be argued that factory farming is a direct result of our diet choice. More demand for meat = more intensive processes to meet demand. Look at this progression in the demand for meat: A fundamental issue is that we consider ourselves distinct from the rest of the natural world. We can't live on a dead planet. So, we need to be nice to ourselves, the planet and the animals.
  16. If you have an HR watch with an optical reader, it usually always records your RHR. You need to wear it when you're sleeping to get a good measurement. Like Barry said, your HRH is a good indicator/predictor of what's going on with your body - stress, sickness, etc.
  17. I'm not saying you are, but I'm referring to 6th ME's posts and also more generally. It's an argument that pops up from time to time. That eating other animals was part of Sapien evolution is undeniable. My disagreement was merely on the extent of that contribution and persons' choice to use it to justify diet choices in the here and now.
  18. Because an approximation of facts are being used as a tool to defeat the argument of veganism.
  19. Who’s dismissing it? Are you reading to respond or to understand what I’m saying?
  20. Saying 'meat gave us big brains' is incredibly reductionary. No one knows exactly what caused our increase in intelligence. It could've been a coalescence of factors, including social competition, environmental, gene expression, random genetic mutation, diet, etc.
  21. The whole 'but evolution tho' argument is nothing more than a straw-man. We're all here, in 2019 CE, typing on plastic and metal computers, dressed in plastic clothes, eating food made in a high tech factory somewhere far away and have nary a concern for invading tribes, starvation or angry gods. We need to consider our current context and what we need to do as a species now.
  22. All animals make cognitive choices - we just have the most advanced ability (to our knowledge) to reason about it.
  23. I wonder what our brains run on? Does anyone know where our meat eating brothers and sisters, the Neanderthals and Erecti are?
  24. Nice, would be an interesting test to do.
