  3. Whaaat!!!? You use a Sharp microwave-oven???
  4. I replied in a moderate way, reasoning all the implications of Maas' article and the forum in which it was publicly carried... Volksblad. Who else did it?
  5. ...and still nothing from the journalist Cobus Coetzee and/or his "meal ticket" : BEELD...
  6. Version 1 then version 2... then the truth!!!!
They sell their paper in public, surely they know how to participate in a public internet forum...? Ahh please, do you really think Beelds/or any other Paper /Media are gonna want to hear what cyclists say about this? They want the sensation, the story, to sell, to make money. And what is a better way to get the publics attention by writing "Oupa beaten up by 6 cyclists" Not oupa (probarly wanted to drive over the cyclist) got beaten up. Not cyclists almost got killed by Oupa. hmmmmm?????????? Let me tell you, tomorrow, everyone would have forgotten about "Oupa"(who went for target practive in his 4x4/BMW/Merc etc), and try and run more cyclists over. Exactly my point!!! BEELD is one of the sponsors of the TSHWANE MAYORAL RIDE, held in Pretoria this year with great success. Where does the buck stop and journalism's responsibility begin... I recall that we had similar reference to the French newspapers (Le Monde etc.) after the TDF doping allegations. If they're in for the money, then we (and I include myself!) are a bunch of fools to fall for the buck because cycling becomes one of the whores of the media!!! Good enough for the money, but not good enough to be given an opporunity to "hear the other side". As is popularly mentioned: there are always three versions: the one version, the alternative and the truth!!! (I apologise in advance for the gross example!)

  9. shammy rash: thanx for the info, but the invite is addressed to BEELD to approach this public forum, not to enter into private discussion through e-mails away from the Hub...
  10. ...still waiting for BEELD to come on record...
  11. Seeing that this is a public forum and the story is now in the public interest: "To the EDITOR of BEELD" Sir, Please respond to this forum as I believe that it is the interest of cyclists/motorists and your readers that we get both versions of the incident. Thanking you in anticipation".
  12. Name(s) please!!! I just returned from Karstens Cycles in Pretoria to fetch my race number for the Bakwena. Bought about R600.00 worth of goods. The assistant at the till was so busy chatting with one of the "laaities" that I had to remind him of my presence/attendance etc. After the sale, not a "thank-you" or even a"voetsek". Subsequently I told him it SHALL be my last visit- and that in front of a stacked shop. There is nothing wrong with my RRR's- I expect nothing to be wrong with the service if I choose to spend it in your shop! Kudo's to all the other shops where service, politeness etc. comes before the price tags!
  13. Absolutely true!!! First go and do a sub3- then you're entitled to do the criticism!!! Well done Lance!!!
  14. BERKELEY, CALIF. (October 24, 2006) -- After seven Tour de France victories, Lance Armstrong has traded in his bike for running shoes to compete in the 2006 ING New York City Marathon. The November 5th event marks a lifelong goal for the legendary cyclist, and will take place just a few weeks following another important life milestone -- the 10th anniversary of his cancer diagnosis. For Armstrong, the scene will certainly be different ? from the world?s most grueling sporting event to the world?s most famous marathon; from 2,241 cycling miles up strenuous French mountain climbs, to a 26.2 mile footrace throughout the streets of New York; from the yellow jersey wearer amongst a team of world class cyclists, to one runner in a pack of 40,000 marathoners. Armstrong looked to his longtime cycling coach Chris Carmichael to support the final stages of marathon training and his race day nutrition strategies. According to Carmichael, the physical and mental demands for each event are different, and although experience helps an athlete like Lance adjust, he?s found the overall transition from riding to running to be challenging. 4 Training Regimen: Armstrong?s hectic travel schedule has resulted in logging training mileage on the treadmill to supplement weekly road and trail runs, and plenty of in-gym core strength exercises. Cross-training workouts including swimming, mountain biking and kayaking have helped ease the hip and joint pain associated with the impact of running.4 Marathon Goals: Asked countless times about his anticipated finish time since he first announced he?d compete in New York, Armstrong says a sub 3-hour run, or finishing somewhere around an hour behind the winner ?in the middle of the pack of 40,000 runners? would make him happy. 4 Race Day Fuel: Armstrong will burn an estimated 10 to 13 calories per minute during the marathon. According to Carmichael, his race day nutritional approach will be similar to what he followed during The Tour ? the right carbohydrate intake at the right time. ?Throughout the estimated three hours he?ll run, Lance will consume 45 to 60 grams of carbohydrates per hour, or the equivalent of two PowerBar Gels, each hour of the race.?
  16. At least shout..."are you OK", and check the answer!!! If you don't, you're probably some of those riders who refuse to acknowledge a polite greeting on a training ride...!!!
  17. Old news or not- it sucks! I lost a good seeding time last year as a result of their "infighting"! I suppose they won't miss my absence despite numerous sms's and e-mails prompting me to enter!
