  1. Love it. If I was living still in London and bike commuting I would love one of these.
  2. Disc brakes maybe? I hear they're the next big thing on road bikes ....
  3. So I know of at least one other rider got a GPS error today, at around the same time too. Wonder if anyone else did. Could the satellites have glitched in some way? Maybe it was a solar flare, I see one was reported for yesterday: http://inagist.com/all/390875736246349824/
  4. Riding along today and suddenly my Garmin starts showing 3,000km travelled. Nice, but we'd only been riding an hour. Look at the TCX file back home, and sure enough there's a batch of spurious GPS Trackpoint rows in the file. Managed to manually remove these to correct the file. Just wondering if my Edge is on the blink, or could something else have caused this. Anyone else ever had this on an Edge 500 (or other Garmin)? Device has been rock solid since new - just one incident of it doing a reset on me part way through a few weeks back. Hoping it's not suddenly playing up on me.
  5. Nice one. Judging by your recent speeds on Strava, I don't think I'll be seeing much of you during teh ride - so hope you have a good one. Kudos for riding to/from the start of the WC express, must have been great day on the bike
  6. Nursing neck injury - so no time target for me. Will just aim to enjoy the ride and atmosphere this year.
  7. Did my first DC last year and then set my best ever Burger time a week later. I reckon it actually helped (ok, I know we had very easy Burger conditions last year)
  8. Will still be overseas on 16th and DC on 23rd - so will miss out on recce sadly.
  9. Also enjoy this one - off to enter now. The road surface past Drakenstein is pretty lumpy since the works ended. Went along there couple of times over winter training. Gonna shake those bones. Bring it on!
  10. I have to force myself to do the others - otherwise I'd do this one all the time. Love it!
  11. Now you're talking - I have a date with some Suffering tomorrow morning. Thinking maybe Revolver or There is No Try. Want to try out ISLAGIATT but won't have time.
  12. I'd be gasping for air just saying that out loud - probably cause me to have one. Hop on the trainer, whack the stereo up to 11 and pedal like you're sprinting against Cav - best medicine there is in my book!
  13. Mine is wall mounted. About 5 or 6 metres from where bike is, so i'm not right under it. My house is thatch - so there's always dust. Aircon doesn't really add more! Honestly - you're biggest threat to getting ill is stressing so much. Just do it boet!
  14. The popular wisdom seems to be that heavy exercise can lower your immune system and make you susceptible to bugs. Rather oddly, I tend to find the opposite - I stay more bug free when I am regularly exercising. Perhaps I just don't push my body hard enough to dent the immune system (quite likely). I do also take a multi-vit each day too though, maybe that helps.
  15. Use fan on it's own when not too hot - aircon and fan when summer heat builds up. Never had an issue
  16. Don't think of it as a 300 - only think as far down the road as the next cafe, pit stop, water break etc etc. When you get there, then think about the next one. When you get tired, set yourself nearer goals - next junction, next road sign. Keep pedalling to that, and when you get there pick another target. Another tip I was given was to switch your Sigma/Garmin so it doesn't show you anything like total distance - my preference is to just see the current time. Look at the scenery, chat to whoever you meet, don't sit looking at how far you have to go. Keep going like that, and you'll be amazed how the KMs disappear under your wheels, and how much you enjoy the ride. Edit - doh, it's a 300 not a 600!
  17. RIP
  18. Nice! Was hoping to make it up for the 600 and have it as a pre-qualifier for PBP, but looks like I'm gonna be riding DC that day. Will have to hold out and hope you guys have a 600 or 1000 in 2014 that I can come and join you for.
  19. I reckon many will. Being a tougher ride, it should have a higher beta, but with teams riding their should be plenty of fast groups to draft for a decent time. We'll be at "DC team pace" (whatever that is by then) - but if riding solo, I'd definitely be looking to hitch a tow or two and turn in a decent time.
  20. But also a seeding ride this year too ...
  21. Does indeed. I'm a definite "no ride" sadly - have back-to-back DC team rides this weekend. Enjoy everyone!
  22. I hate to be the voice of dissent here. But if they use the same model as for 2011 I believe a 600 or 1000 pre-qualifier will need to be done between around Oct/Nov 2013 and Jun/Jul 2014. Once we get into Jul 14 to Jun 15 events will count as qualifiers and won't count as special cases for early preregistration.
  23. Nice job!
  24. Have done that route a couple of times on winter training - at relaxed pace it's very pleasant. I reckon Bothmaskloof and the R304 home will be a very different story at pace though. In the words of Jens Voigt - "Oh this is gonna hurt"
