  1. I'm not in IT but the guy in the office next to mine is in charge of the IT at our firm. One day he got a new wireless mouse and the range was so strong it was interfering with the wireless mouse of the guy in the office next to mine on the other side. The cursor on the second guy's screen would suddenly start moving on his screen, without him touching his mouse. He couldn't understand it so he called the IT guy to help him. Of course as soon as the IT guy stopped working on his computer with his mouse, the cursor on the second guy's screen stopped moving around by itself so it looked like the second guy was imagining things. Took them a while to figure out what was going on. We had quite a laugh.Nothingness2009-08-16 06:47:42
  2. Archers and golfers also dope and they don't even need to run. Oh, but wait, according to the general public only cyclists dope.
  3. Any weekend. I work in the same street as all the good Stellenbosch coffee shops. Just don't expect me to come on a bike.
  4. I know. Was hoping there might at least be one place. Doesn't look like it though.
  5. That is mighty superior of you. Why can you guys not be reasonable and see things my way? Read the whole thread first - the who in his experience said that only funriders follow lance blindly - I was responding to that!! I was the one who said that' date=' in my experience, it is usually funriders who follow Lance blindly. I also, however, specificially said that I wasn't using the word 'funrider' in a derogatory sense and explained exactly what I meant. It was the part in brackets. Given that, I don't see how you can say that I was bashing anyone. On the contrary it appears that you were bashing me without reading my post properly? Besides, I love funriders! If I cycled I would be one! [/quote'] See my response above. Before taking issue with what I say, please at least look at all I say. And if you want to quote me, please quote the whole section. Thanks. Hope you have a lovely ride when your work finishes!

  7. Gosh, some of you guys really get upset about nothing. This is the Hub, everyone is entitled to their opinion. If you don't like the thread, read another one. I think HR made some interesting points which were worth pointing out/discussing. Oh and, in my experience, its the funriders (using that to describe the average person who cycles for fun and does not follow international cycling religiously, not as a derogatory term) who follow Lance blindly because they don't yet know that there is more to cycling. Lastly, LA is a celebrity and will, as such, have to put up with flak. If he wasn't up for it, he could have remained in retirement and stayed away from the spotlight. As cycling fans, we are entitled to discuss him and, yes, even criticise him. Just because we aren't as good as him (and lets face it - only a handful of guys in the world are) doesn't mean we have to shut up and not discuss him and his race along with the others.
  8. Anyone know of any bars or other places in the Stellenbosch or Cape Town area that will be showing tomorrow's stage? Don't want to miss it.
  9. Just for the record, Dan is Namibian. Speaking of which, dark horse, what about the Namibian mountainbikers like Mannie Heymanns, Marc Bassingthwaite, Heletje van Staden who have also done well in SA and have SA sponsors? Should their SA sponsors lose the benefit of these riders because they come from over the river? Or does the discrimination only extend to Europeans?
  10. Oops... sorry! Can I say you acted in a gentlemanly manner? Would not want to harm your bad boy image.
  11. Thank you for your kind words, Gasping. At the risk of making this thread completely soppy, I'd also like to say that he dealt with the matter as only a gentleman would. Forget about the gravy!
  12. Hi Gasping. Have sent you a pm.
  13. The top women in South Africa train just as hard as the top men. It is also more difficult for them to train given the fact that in South Africa it is just not safe for a woman to train alone. Why should the top women be penalised because there aren't enough other women cycling? They don't train less hard or put less hours in because they only have to beat 50 others instead of three hundred. Instead of putting women cyclists down, why don't you guys encourage more women to get into cycling and to start competing. This forum is the ideal place to start but all you guys do is objectify them.
  14. Someone asked about the legislation. Just for interest, it is regulation 207 of the National Road Traffic Regulations which were promulgated in terms of the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996. 207 Compulsory wearing of protective helmet (2) After expiry of three years from the date of commencement of this regulation, no person shall drive or be a passenger on a pedal cycle on a public road unless he or she is wearing a protective helmet which fits him or her properly and of which the chin straps is properly fastened under the chin. [wef 5 October 2001] Definitions (in terms of the Act): 'pedal cycle' means any bicycle or tricycle designed for propulsion solely by means of human power 'public road' means any road, street or thoroughfare or any other place (whether a thoroughfare or not) which is commonly used by the public or any section thereof or to which the public or any section thereof has a right of access, and includes- (a) the verge of any such road, street or thoroughfare; (b) any bridge, ferry or drift traversed by any such road, street or thoroughfare; and © any other work or object forming part of or connected with or belonging to such road, street or thoroughfare
  15. I must have missed that observation. Anyway lets talk about the Tour! Whether one likes Armstrong or not, I think that what he said in the interview that led to the comments on this thread (which then appeared to have sparked some unhappiness) was out of line and will pretty much have to win to justify it. Lets see whether he can justify what he said. Its all happening right here folks, don't go away.
  16. Makes you wonder if it was not perhaps part of the Astana plan to create this situation?? Watching LA and Popo trying to encourage the leading group to work together, their actions seemed to be a bit put on IMO, as if they were trying to make it obvious that LA wanted the break to succeed...LA?s lead over AC is FA and should not be to much of a concern, unless of course AC doubts his own ability. it's the 2009 version of the? big bluff!!!!! This is so exciting. And we all know that Lance can act. We will probably only know what Bruyneel is cooking up when it is on the table... I didn't enjoy watching the tour when Lance was dominating because it was so boring - everyone already knew the outcome. Now anything could happen. Great stuff. By the way, Trubie, everyone on the Hub has and is entitled to their own opinion. Getting huffy about it won't get you anywhere except hot under the collar.

    What if .........

I've said this before on another thread but I'll say it again because I think it is an interesting point to consider. Even if Lance did test positive' date=' there is no ways that the powers that be would let it come out. Rightly or wrongly (wrongly in my opinion), cycling has a bad rap with regard to doping and a lot of time and energy is being spent trying to clear it up. Lance testing positive would destroy any credibility the Tour and cycling in general ever had. There was talk last year that more riders tested positive for CERA but only a couple were kicked off the Tour as making all the positives public would have been catastrophic for the sport. If there was any truth in this, the same considerations would apply to Lance. Actually, it would be even more applicable given his history with the tour. {This is where I should mention how many times he has won, but there is no need because he keeps bringing it up himself, just in case we had forgotten.}[/quote'] And Elvis still lives, and man has never been on the moon. The french hate LA, if he test positive it will leak out no matter what. No need to bash me because I am speculating. Isn't that all we ever do when it comes to doping? Isn't all of this a conspiracy theory? Do you think the French hate Lance more than they love the tour? And I don't mean the general public, I mean the people who would be involved. No wait, no need to reply. There is no scope for a sensible exchange of opinions here. I should have known better.

  19. I agree completely that the office mentality is outdated. I do a lot of work on my couch at home. My point is, and listen carefully, he does not appear to be working as he is chatting and drinking coffee (no laptop, no pen, no files, nothing) when there are major problems with the system. Is he working on it telepathically?
