  1. You like to complain, but you don't want to get the facts first. Hmmmmmm. Don't you think that's a bit unfair? From the first paragraph: ".... some of the profits received is retained to run the Association and support cycling and specifically the 60-odd funrides on the annual PPA funride calendar" "the majority of profits received is allocated to cycling-related projects." There. All accounted for. What else should it go for? Handing out helmets and red back lights to commuters who cycle to work and back in the dark and can't afford to buy their own? Oh wait, they've already done that. Having bumper stickers printed and given to each Argus entrant to raise awareness for cycling safety? Also already been done. And it was a complete waste of money because hardly any of the cyclists used them. There aren't even enough volunteers for the PPA committee and you expect to get enough people and funds together to form another organisation to do everything that the PPA does? As great as it sounds, I'm afraid I don't see that happening. Its easier to moan on theHub. If you don't want to join PPA, buy yourself a speedo. You can get one for the price of a PPA membership. You record your time and you get a time. Voila! You compare your time with the results on racetec and see where you came in the alphabet soup. Or you join PPA; get the benefits of membership and laugh at the idiots who aren't prepared to pay a 1000th of the amount they spend on their bike/kit/supplements every year and have to start at the back. I don't see how PPA is forcing anyone to be a member. Why should PPA provide the benefits of membership to non-members? Its a personal choice. Either join up and or don't. Surely everyone is grown up enough to make their own, informed decision? I'm glad they aren't. I'd much rather that they attend to important stuff, like the stuff that's set out on the website but which some people are too comfortable to read, than monitor a website that has unfortunately degenerated into a playground for the comfortable people to sit on their backsides and complain. 2. Awesome.
  3. Its good to see so many people saying 'get her to join you'. There aren't nearly enough women cycling in South Africa and it would be awesome if we could get more ladies on the road/trails. I know a lot of girls that want to cycle but feel bad going with their boyfriends/husbands and their friends because they hold them up or are scared that they will hold them up. I hope everyone who said 'get her to join you' encourages every lady they see, including their own, and waits for any beginners that rock up at a group ride. Personally, though, I wouldn't want to date a cyclist. I'd much rather have cycling as my own thing and have someone that I can talk to about meaningful things [and someone who'll accompany me to races and do back up and massage my legs and clean my bike, and and and.] Unfortunately, spending so much time cycling, the only guys I meet are cyclists.
  4. You're comparing Armstrong's acheivements over 13 years to Contador's achievements over three, or at least seven years since his first comeback. So Contador has four grand tours over three years whereas Armstrong has seven over seven. If Contador is only 1/2 of Armstrong in terms of records its only because he's only had half the time Armstrong had. Perhaps we should put the comparisons on hold for another four years?
  5. Do you even know the background? How is she out for a quick buck if she offered to settle on the basis of an apology and Cyclelab paying R100 000.00 to charity? I think that was pretty big of her. Cyclelab will easily end up paying that in legal fees.
  6. Aren't we all getting one in our goodie bags any way? Can I drop mine off at your stand for someone who actually wants one?
  7. OMG - this is the perfect bike for HR! He'll be close to the ground so he doesn't have far to fall, and its pink! And it looks like its got a nice plush saddle...
  8. I know what you mean.....last year at Kremetart after getting dropped by the ladies' date=' I worked my @ss off....then 5km from the end some little bunch caught us, full of old f@rts and then they had the nerve to sprint me in the last 100m after another guy and I had pulled them to the end....pathetic....[/quote'] in the sprint for 222nd place? No, in the sprint for first in that particular bunch. What is it about you wannabe pros that think that funriders shouldn't sprint at the end of a funride? Where's the fun in sedately riding up to the line after a good ride? Please change your name, you're embarrassing your university.
  9. I always wondered about the logic of "the real racing is overseas" style statements...do you aspire to work overseas? If you're an accountant/lawyer/hotdog maker do you consider yourself a loser with a cosy life until you sell your first hotdog overseas? Nothing wrong with making a South African career and trust me - it aint easy money - it's frikkin hard training and racing for not a lot of money.... What do you do, Eldron? And is there a World Champs or Olympics for it? Like World Champs for accountancy or bricklaying etc? I am perfectly happy living and working in SA, but I'm not an athlete. If I was my ultimate goal would be to compete in the Olympics or Worlds, or even some World Cups. {The closest I currently get is to compete in the World Funride Champs } Every time our athletes go overseas and don't perform then people complain because they aren't at world-class level. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but the only way they're going to become world-class is by racing against world-class riders. So, I repeat - what do they want to achieve? Do they want to compete in Worlds or the Olympics or just in the World Funride Champs, like me? Do they want to become world-class or not? That's the question to be answered, and then the question is what type of racing would be conducive to getting them where they want to be. And then whatever that is needs to be taken into account by CSA/the race organisers/whoever. I didn't mean to be derogatory when I used cosy. I just appears that racing in SA is like racing in a comfort zone. I think the racing here should be harder, like it is overseas so when they do go overseas it won't be such a shock to the system.
  10. Why a Chinese frame? Aren't all Morewoods built in Gauteng? Morewood are not build in GP. They are build in Pietermaritzburg. BUT' date=' the Kwela is build in the east and finished in SA.[/quote'] Thanks M!
  11. Why a Chinese frame? Aren't all Morewoods built in Gauteng?
  12. When I was young, I fell in love I asked my sweetheart what lies ahead Will we have rainbows, day after day Here?s what my sweetheart said. Que CERA, CERA, Whatever will be, will be The future?s not ours, to see Que CERA, CERA What will be, will be.

    Simonsvlei

In the Tour de Winelands he finished with two other X riders and there were a couple not that far behind. They obviously did a team time trial. I've seen the so-called development riders doing that at funrides. Nothing fishy about that. Why don't the guys that are always moaning about the development riders organise a training camp or something for them. It would benefit everyone.
  14. Kind of like Osama bin Laden changed the face of global politics?
  15. Hmmm. What's worse? An egotistical cyclist with no fashion sense or a malicious double poster with fashion sense?
  16. There's a group that start at the car dealer at the corner of Bird (R304) and the R44 (Adam Tas) every week day morning at 06H00. They do about an hour. Speak to the guys from Flandria for more info.
  17. Oh yes, lets all follow Radioshack blindly now because there's one South African in it. And Sky, and Garmin. Like we all blindly followed Barloworld because it was "South African".
  18. I think its disgusting that they have put yellow bands onto the sleeves. I know Armstrong is full of himself, but this is just going too far. On the pants its still ok-ish. Either way, its still ucking fugly kit.

    cradle route

Ok, I didn't want to say anything but there are just way too many fallacies (denkfoute) in this post to ignore. Obviously' date=' any future applications to run a race in the Cradle area will be met with resistance from the locals. [/quote'] Why? Its your Mr X who is trying to INTENTIONALLY harm fellow human beings. You, Cradleresident and Cradlelandowner are sticking up for this behaviour. If all the locals are like the four of you - don't you want the races to be held there so you have more potential victims? Where does the letter say this? By the way' date=' anyone who intends to harm another human being, whether a cyclist or motorist IS a criminal. The fact that you condone the criminal actions of Mr X is disconcerting to say the least. The fact that "many" residents have been assaulted by cyclists does not entitle the residents to harm other cyclists. Taking the law into your own hands is illegal.
