  1. My dad bought himself one recently and is raving about it!
  2. MichaelH also once said he is in printing.
  3. Can we nominate people who shouldn't be in? (Certain people who obviously consider themselves quite something but actually need a wake-up call). http://www.saguys.co.za/guys/index.php?option=com_gallery2&Itemid=32&g2_itemId=870 Or what do the other girls think?
  4. WRONG! Long STEADY distance. You can still do this fast but keep it steady. Do sprints or intervals or slacking off. Disagree. As far as I know you should start with base training, i.e. lots of long slow rides, and once you have the miles you start with building up your power - doing sprints or intervals. But maybe this is an outdated theory. Any trainers out there care to advise?
  5. LSD is good !! I reckon you can move onto cocaine from there ... That'll just make you fly... not cycle better!
  6. Don't worry about your average speed. Start with LSD to build up your fitness and take it from there.
  7. But where is this? Or has the answer been posted somewhere in this 14 page thread and I just missed it? Please help me out here - it looks like a great trail!
  8. If you're just looking for a basic speedo, I'd say get a Cateye or a Sigma. I always used Cateyes until I got my Polar HRM. Only problem I had was that they would stop working when they got wet (i.e. in the rain) whereas my friends' Sigmas didn't. My 2c worth.
  9. Just received this via email: If you don?t know, lance is planning on opening a bike shop in texas. It is going to be called Mellow Johnny?s after his nick name. Below is a complaint from one of his customers!<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Dear Mr. Mellow Johnny I am writing to complain about the service I recently received when I came to your store, shopping for a bike. I have no complaints about the decor or cleanliness of the store itself; it seemed quite pleasant. My complaint has to do with the service I received. As soon as I arrived, I saw one of your employees and approached him. ?I'm looking for a bike, Lance,? I said. I knew his name was Lance, by the way, because his name tag said so. Well, I don't mind saying that Lance looked me up and down with the coolest, most appraising look I have ever seen. ?What kind of bike?? he asked, after an uncomfortable silence. ?I hear good things about the Specialized brand,? I replied. ?And I'd like to get something really nice, so I have as much as $450 to spend.? You will be as shocked as I was, Mr. Johnny, to learn that this Lance character turned around without saying another word and walked away. The nerve! I am not someone to be trifled with, however, so I followed him, grabbed him by the shoulders and spun him around to face me. (I was surprised at how light he was and, frankly, he seemed a little thin.) ?Don't make me talk to your manager, young man,? I said. Although, to tell the truth, ?young man? seems a bit of a stretch. This Lance employee of yours looks like he's pushing 40. I find it a little sad that someone that old hasn't found better employment than working as a bike salesman. But I digress. Lance told me that you don't sell Specialized bikes in your store (don't feel bad, Mr. Johnny's; perhaps someday, after establishing credibility with the bike industry, you'll be able to get more than just the Trek brand in your store) showed me a nice Trek ?Lime? as he called it, though he winced noticeably when he touched the bike, as if he were too good for it, somehow. ?I'd like to take it on a test ride,? I said. Lance seemed to grumble under his breath a bit as he adjusted the seat height for me, though to be fair he did a perfectly adequate job. In fact, he seemed like a fair mechanic in most respects. I think he may be more suited to working in the back of your store than in the front room. Just a thought. As soon as I got in the parking lot, this Lance character, on a matching Lime, rode ahead of me, taking off at an ungodly speed. I could only barely keep up! I'm quite sure that, as we rode up a hill, he once looked back at me, held my gaze for a moment, and then stood up and pedalled away as if it were some kind of race. I don't think I'm being unreasonable when I say that I just don't think that was called for. It wasn't long, Mr. Johnny?s, until Lance actually lapped me on the city block course we were riding on, smacking my butt as he went by and asking: ?How do you like them apples?? Well, I don't like those apples one bit. I'm certain it will not surprise you to learn that after this experience, I was absolutely not going to purchase a bike from your store. I wheeled the bike in, put down the kickstand, and was just about to storm out purposefully when this Lance character walked over with a pen in one hand and a large photo of himself in the other. He signed it and proffered it to me. Not wanting to agitate an obviously deranged man, I took the photo and got out as quickly as I could. You're new in town, Mr. Johnny's, and I truly want your bike shop to succeed. But if you don't start being more careful about the help you hire, you're almost certain to go out of business in short order. Kind Regards, Elden Nelson
  10. Article forgot to mention of the pharmacy that will be hidden in the back corner...
  11. Quote wasn't directed at Racman specifically, but at anyone following this thread. Or is everyone else reading this also only looking for the abovementioned specifications? Yes? Ok, I apologise profusely for my impertinence.

  13. Does this mean Cherry has an unfair advantage over the rest of us?
  14. Thanks jeremyd! Exactly what I had in mind ... only I'm not very good with crayons!
  15. OK, I can't use Paint to save my life, but this is just a basic idea. The sun is too big and it needs the triangle thingies. Any of the designing experts want to tighten it up?

and most other sports ...... Almost all other sports! I've heard even golfers and archers dope - they take meds that slow down their heart rate so they are more steady when swinging or aiming.

Hunter and Rasmussen had both dropped off the end of the break (both times) and Hunter tried to sprint away from Rasmussen but Rasmussen got back on his wheel each time. I think Rasmussen had a problem with the fact that Hunter was sitting on the back of the break, not doing any work, but anyone with more details on this - please let us know. Looked flat to me (was still on the first loop before they got back to Stellenbosch for the Helshoogte laps). Any way if any of you get a chance to watch the coverage - do, that was interesting racing/politics!

Chunky: Good point - apparently Rasmussen is a track rider after all. Slowpoke: Wasn't trying to detract anything from Hunter's great performances last year. Was just surprised by the incidents that I mentioned above, that's all. I think most people would have been. So no one else saw the coverage?

Is Hunter such a great sprinter though? (Note: I didn't say he isn't - I'm just asking for opinions from fellow cyclists/cycling fans). Did anyone see the coverage of stage 4 of the Giro (Helshoogte)? Hunter tried to shake off Alex Rasmussen (Danish National Team) twice and each time Alex caught back up to Hunter like he was looking for parking! And the second time Rasmussen dropped his chain. Was fun to watch - does anyone know what the fuss was about between them?
  21. Namibia is also sending a team. Includes, as far as I know, Dan Craven (Namibian National Champ as of this weekend), Mannie Heymans, Mark Bassingthwaite (sp?) and Arno Viljoen. Don't know who else is in the team.
  22. Huh? I don't understand this. Must be blonde.
  23. I still think that if you want to race - race in the league, don't spoil the funride for the funriders. But maybe the people that I had to endure don't qualify for league - which explains why they are bitter and therefore angry...
  24. That's disgusting. Why is it that some male cyclists (luckily only the minority) have no respect for female cyclists? I have had similar experiences - in the G bunch! There is no excuse for losing one's temper but if the person isn't even racing competitively (ie. in the league) it's a funride! Emphasis on fun!
