  1. Luan, look at the Honda Trophy. www.mountain-trophy.co.za. Think I'm gonna do it
  2. Bliksem, now I see why you sold the Schwinn. Got it btw. Everything good, so thanks a lot.
  3. Was thinking exactly the same thing. Not always easy to find a partner of similar fitness/goals or not easy finding a partner overall. There's also the Honda Trophy in gauteng that's individual. It's the first weekend in May. 2 day stage race. 80km and 40km. Think I'll do that one as a first.
  4. Agree with you guys. Everything the same. Just different starts. You don't want to lose someone's admiration for you when they hear you didn't do the complete/real cape epic.
  5. Specs look alright for first bike. My first one was kinda the same. I've bought lots of stuff on the hub, but the expensive ones I went to pick up myself or asked someone to pick it up. There's a lot of scammers out there, so make sure you have enough detail of the guy or if he's on the hub you can see if someone maybe knows him or something.
  6. Also saw that yesterday. Quite keen. A stage race where you can go home after the first stage. Would be nice as my first one.
  7. Sorry for my double post. Was typing a bit slow
  8. Chain life depends on how you maintain your chain. It can last 500km or it can last 10000km if you take really good care of it. Don't know the difference between SLX and XT casettes, but the xt casette has about 4/5 fixed "gears", and the other 4/5 gears are removable. Don't think people change out individual gears though. You do that with your chainrings. If you have slx groupset, then xtr would be overkill. You can also look at SRAM casettes. Oh yeah, make sure that your gears are tuned. Is the new chain the same length as the old one?
  9. Yes I want to enter the Kalahari challenge. Have upped my training. Not sure on a partner yet, why you ask kranswurm?
  10. My uncle is looking for 2 sets of mtb wheels. This will be used on road with slicks and should be tubeless. He and his wife are funriders and looking for some lightweight wheels. Will mostly be used for riding the argus, 94.7 and some weekend rides. He is tired of changing the tyres everytime. Something in the xt range. Are there any lightweight mtb wheels spesifically for road use.
  11. I have used the glueless patches, but they don't seem to work really well
  12. RS200 and delphi 5
  13. You'll pass through some townships. Not implying anything, but ... Definetly stay off the road. Road is narrow and lots of trucks. I drove the road once with my car to avoid tollgates etc, but never again
  14. I'm very hapy with mine. Agents in Midrand are really good. My polar is more than 3 years old and took it for battery replacement Okt last year and they replaced my strap free of charge. Also had a problem with the watch resetting about 4 times a year and they replaced all the insides free of charge in Jan this year. All this and I only had a 2 year gaurentee. Watch was bought in Hong Kong.
  15. Obviously the torque stays the same. Force x Distance Who has mechanical engineering software to run a simulation for us?
  16. I wonder if Julius M. died because of aids and someone mentioned unprotected sex, if we'd have a similar thread. Just saying.
  17. So, EPIC FAIL.
  18. What's your take on these? http://cgi.ebay.com/NO-UPPER-DEAD-POINT-POWER-CURVED-CRANKSET-TURBO-CRANK_W0QQitemZ270547805998QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCycling_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3efde7e72e
  19. Are there any advantages to these integrated bar stem combo's?
  20. This is how it went: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=80149&KW=customs
  21. My opinion. Take it or leave it. Train on mtb and road. With road you can do hills, tempo rides, intervals. With mtb you can do a normal longish ride where you train on technical areas. Like bikemonster said. Concentrate on your weekness. If you suck on technical hills, ride terain with a lot of technical hills. Don't know if you still ride both, but roadbike will cover all the fitness aspects and all that's left is your technical abillity on the mtb. That's what I do.
  22. I'll be doing it this weekend maybe. Got the olives and thanks to johan now I've got a guide.
  23. They are awesome. Even my non-cycling friends love them.
  24. I already do it on my mtb. SRAM all the way with xt casette. The shimano casette is only for training as the roads in centurion are killing my nice campag wheels. Don't mind wasting some shimano wheels
