  1. The last time I went out for a ride with my wife she decided she didn't like her bike anymore an attempted to climb onto mine at 30kmph - I broke a wrist - Riding with your wife is just a bad idea - Rather tell her she looks fugly in spandex and end the ride before it even starts, you'll have a healthier marriage and probable suffer less injuries too and not have to worry about points 2 through 10 either.

S:0:40 B:3:10 R:2:00 T: 5:50 Gadget I think your total time is incorrect it should be 5:50 unless my maths is sucking ass again.
  5. My 70.3 ammo - Not as nice as some of these but she gets the job done
  6. You will run 5k the first time out you just wont be able to walk the next day. Take it easy. When last did you run? Probably when you were back in school. You really need to teach yourself to run again. Start with a 2K run 3k max you'll see its a lot further than you think. Get into running very very very slowly else you will pick up ITB problems very quickly which will screw up your cycling to. Depending on your age and when you last really were able to run it will take you a good 6 to 8 months before you start to feel comfortable on the road. Easy does it Tiger

Last year I did 2h out and 1h20 back - don't go after the sub 3 on the ride its not worth it, you will crash and burn on the run. The run is hard in this race, ride within yourself. Get acquainted with the run course on the first lap and give it horns on the second lap if you have anything left.

LOL leave the other athletes alone, rather spare your "attack" energy for the race you're going to need it - this one is not easy. Yes you get a DQ for throwing your **** on the ground outside the "Green" areas, should be like this in all races

Generally I have found and I hope this remains the same people to be quite forgiving on the swim, its a long way to go and nobody wants to get hurt. I think most of the kicking and stuff goes toward the front of the bunches where they guys are pretty competitive, toward the middle and back things are chilled. I remember seeing a guy doing back stroke last year. The best thing to do if you feel someone swimming into you is to either stop swimming altogether or just stop kicking that way nobody gets hurt everyone says sorry and gets on about their business. The bike works itself out, not all 3000 are on the road at the same time. The only real congestion is at the first big climb and the marshals tend to be forgiving as there is not advantage to be gained from drafting when everyone is doing 12km an hour.

I think entries were sold out for this race in November 2 months before, I also think this is the first time they have filled up to capacity which shows tri is growing in South Africa

Tapering makes me feel like I am going to get to race day unprepared. Feels like doing the little or nothing is making me more unfit than what I was.

Thanks for the tips Mark 8 Days to go - tapering sucks and I'm getting nervous
  22. Its Governments new way of making a **** situation sound good, just listen to the new SANRAL ad on tolling or an SABC ad for your TV License - dressing the wolf in sheeps clothing
  23. Probably your biggest worry as far as equipment is concerned is getting the correct running shoes. Chose wisely and spend wisely on this item. I have seen many athletes on an old skadonk bicycle passing those on the latest technology - be patient when looking for a bike many secondhand ones are more than good enough to do the job - remember you don't buy a bicycle because of its resale value. Tri bike or normal road bike - practicality states a normal road bike if you can only afford 1 bike - there is also no significant aerodynamic advantage in riding a tri bike unless you use a tri helmet and can maintain a speed of over 25km/ph - Clip on tri bars also work well on your road bike Goggles and cap available from Mr Price Sport for under R100 Wetsuit - a entry level ORCA will more than suffice about R1600 for an S3
