  1. Maybe airlines should announce that during an emergency evacuation, survivors who have been caught on camera carrying luggage out and/or filming could be sued by the airline afterwards. That might stop 2 problems at once.
  2. Fully agree with Swissvan wrt to maybe not mention there is smoke in the cockpit. The repeated shoutout for brace was pure training that. I have no idea what warning bells was shouting in the cockpit, but I can only but assume that they do not know what the cause of the smoke was and without knowing what the cause was they had no idea of the severity of the problem. Then the procedure would be to get that plane on the ground asap. Not knowing what you problem is you have no clue as to what could happen at the landing as things might be going wrong. So prep the crew for a all out emergency and rather prepare for the worst and hope for the best. It would be good to know what actually caused the smoke though.
  3. I think it is pretty safe to assume there was no fire onboard as they did not exit the aicraft with slides.
  4. Not actually sure what Deborah's issue is. From the clip, it seems like the crew handled the situation pretty well. If there is smoke they do not have a clue where it originated from. So they performed an emergency landing to the letter as they were trained to do.
  5. Very informative thanks.
  6. Sure I understand the physics and why in most cases they would not have been able to escape. It is just the irony for me. Even fighter aircraft with ejection seats when they go into an uncontrollable spin would be problematic to escape at best. I remember reading an article in the Times magazine of someone who survived the emergency landing of the Ethopian Boeing that landed in the water off the shores of the Comores. The author described that glide down after they ran out of fuel till they hit the water as the longest most terifying time in her life. She described the fear the people had. People were littery soilling themselves. She said that smell in the cabin was unbearable just before they hit the water.
  7. Am I the only one who think how ironic it is that a plane full of paraschutists crashed and none of them could jump to safety.
  8. Me thinks they want to up the sales on Flight Sim
  9. The aerial footage looks absolutely freaking awesome. Who cares about the acting
  10. Interresting thing I heard last night I never knew. China and neighbouring Mongola are of the few countries (if not only countries) that gives the height measurements to aircraft in metric instead of the normal flight levels in feet. I never knew that and wonder how did that happen. Some more info to it .. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flight_level
  11. This my dear fellow aviation fans is so super cool ... https://flzgmbl.de/en

  15. Look for Pilotseye.tv. Cool stuff
  16. Yip the bold part you mentioned also stood out for me. WRT to your question ... it has been for a long time said that modern day airline pilots are not just pilots but more system managers than pilots, which I think is true. The problem is that with all the aircraft in the air, the days of just flying is actually long gone as it is a huge system. And even when it just comes to flying, you will still have accidents. I think statistics will prove that these systems are safer than the old hands on days. Look at our current cars compared to what we had years ago. Worlds apart.
  17. This is a good read .. http://www.sullysullenberger.com/my-testimony-today-before-the-house-subcommittee-on-aviation/
  18. Now that is funny
  19. That just reads funny
  20. I am rather concerned when I read that last night. His reasons was for not getting the backing to get the turnaround strategy moving as he planned. Was he too ambitous or did he have the cat by the tail and the board told him to take a jump. Or is there simply no money to do the turnaround. Either way, I would most propably not buy any SAA ticket well in advance at this stage.

Like an e-bike, you need to store the battery somewhere.
  22. I had a few 1:72 and 1:48 models. Had the F14, F15, F16, Mig 29 among others. I gave them to a friend just before the move as through the years I had a tough time to maintain them with kids and domestics having a good go at them. At one stage stored them in my office as I would think they were safer just to walk in on a Monday to find that co-workers who came in for standby duty brought their little ones with into the office and they made good job of damaging my models. But I have a to admit that the itch is starting and found a good shop in Munich to buy all what I need. I still have an unbuilt F-22 in the cupboard as well. Space is still a issue though.
  23. What version of the F16 is this?
  24. F15E Strike Eagle to be more precise.
