  1. I was running Mountain King front and Race King back, but the Mountain King is only superior in mud (which is less than 5% of the terrain). The Race King should have less rolling resistance so would be more suitable for cross-country racing, and I just fitting a new RK at the front, so let's see how that goes. For mud, Mountain King up front is probably the way to go.
  2. There are usually quite a few MTB'ers on Table Mountain in the afternoon, between about 16:00 and 18:00. I would think it is pretty safe, but that is a dangerous assumption.
  3. I'm a regular blood donor, but now I'm wondering how donating blood will affect my MTB'ing performance. Apparently it takes up to 6 weeks to replace the red blood cells. Can anyone provide some insights?
  5. I've used my 76Cx for MTBing and it works very nice. I can route and record my trail to view the profile on the computer. And I use it for geocaching, overlanding, bike trips. Make sure you get a good mount. I'm using a RAM mount and it is very sturdy.
  6. My wife wants to join me on long and ultra-long mountain bike rides so we need to get a good dual suspension bike for her. Budget is R15,000 to R18,000. The problem is that second hand bikes in her size are few and far between so we'll probably go new. What would you recommend? Scott Spark 50 Giant Anthem Merida One Twenty TFS 700-D or 800-D Anything from Specialized? Anything else? Obviously I want to get as much info as possible before making the decision. All input welcome!
  7. Thanks. But I've got hydrolic disc brakes, so these won't work?
  8. And what is the difference between "Organic" and "Sintered"?
  9. Thanks techguy. But what exactly are "Ball Bearing disc brakes"?
  10. I'm looking to get brake pads from CRC. Which pads should I get for Avid Juicy Three hydrolic disc brakes? (A link would be useful.) Their website isn't quite clear. Thanks!
  11. Good point Borriz. Thanks for the input, TNOSE_E.
  12. I also thought about the geometry, but it seems spinning bikes are fairly adjustable with lower handlebars so with a bit of luck I should be able to come close to my MTB set-up. With a bit more luck I can fit spd pedals and use my cleats as well.
  13. No comments? Does that mean no one can find fault with my thinking?
  14. You may want to check the tyre pressure. I had the same problem with my mountain king. In the Attakwas I was all over the place until I let a bit of air out. It seems much better. Unfortunately I can't tell you what pressure I'm running 'cause I simply don't know (no pressure gauge). I play around until I find the sweet spot.
  15. I'm looking for something to use at home when the weather really doesn't allow training or in the winter months when there just isn't enough daylight. I am seriouly looking at an indoor training, but I'm wondering why exercise bikes aren't more popular. As an example, my bike is in for a big service (including front and rear shocks) and now I'm without a bike for a week. An indoor trainer won't solve that problem. Also, an exercise bike doesn't put wear on my bike's expensive components. What am I missing? Musashi2010-02-01 06:12:18
  16. Ride more so that your tyres don't last so long.
  17. It's time for new tyres (26") and I'm thinking of going the Mountain King/ Race King (front/rear) route. What sizes would you recommend? 2.4/2.2? 2.2/2.0? I do mostly long distance riding (45 to 230km), but like bombing it on the downhills so grip is NB! Any suggestions? What are you running?
  18. My easy solution: take two business card, fold them in two and put them in the place of the disc.
  19. I think the saddle is still the original Scott Racing saddle. There is basically no cut away which I suspect is the problem. I'll play around with seat angle while checking a few of the recommendations above. Turtlek, I have brand new pants so I think it is either the saddle or the bike set-up. The handle bars feel about 3 cm's too low. Can that be the problem?
  20. I've been MTB'ing again for the last 3 months and enjoy getting back into it. Most of my rides are 3+ hours so I spend a lot of time in the saddle. After a while, and usually on long climbs, I become uncomfortable (a bit of numbness "down under") in the saddle, even if I stand up every now and again. I suspect the problem is the saddle as it is quite a narrow, hard saddle. What saddle would you recommend for long distance MTB rides (my LBS wasn't very helpful with advice)?
  21. I also use the stuff and no problems here. Yes, it will degrease your bearings, but not eat away at rubber/paint/plastic. Oh yes, and I use a small paint brush and old tooth brush, not a spray bottle. I found this works better to clean the casette and chain.Musashi2009-07-01 00:37:15
  22. Awesome, thanks droo. Now I just need to get those LED's from Hong Kong...
  23. Given the last few posts, this may be a bit off topic, but I need some advice from those who clearly know their stuff. What would happen if I put 18V through a {bflex driver + 3 x Q5 LED} setup? Am I correct in saying I will fry the LED's? Can I set up the driver to push out only 12V (i.e. reduce from 18V)?
  24. I see the TaskLED website for bFlex drivers are also back up and running again. Can someone tell me how long it takes for dealextreme to ship LED's?
  25. Just a pity Rabtron doesn't have stock of the one I'm looking for (3023-D-E-1000P).
